welcome to Montana works in this video we are going to demonstrate the process of filing an unemployment claim you will need to have a registered account on Montana Works gov if you would like help registering please visit our registration tutorial video linked in the description below start by clicking login in the top right corner then click job seeker UI claimant enter your username and password then click login if you do not remember your username or password use the links below to recover your username or reset your password click access unemployment claim services if you have filed for Montana unemployment before you will be asked for your PIN if you have forgotten your PIN you can reset it by clicking reset pin you will be asked to verify your security word the security word used to be your mother's maiden name on our previous website if this is your first time filing you will be asked to create a four digit PIN and security word your PIN can be any four numbers except for all zeros you will need to verify your PIN each time you file a claim or file a payment request the security word can be any word of your choice it will be used to verbally verify your identity anytime you call the claims processing center or to reset your PIN through the website it is essential that you remember this information to avoid issues and delays as you file your claim once finished click Save pin you will be directed to the filing status page click the start button to the right of personal information review your personal information if any information is not accurate click Edit this information if everything is correct click I verify this information is correct answer the status and demographic questions are you a US citizen veteran status race ethnicity disability and your highest completed grade of education click save and continue answer the basic employment history has all of your work since the listed date been in self-employment such as independent contractor realtor or other self-employment at any time since the listed date did you work in a state other than Montana have you filed for unemployment insurance benefits in any state other than Montana in the last 12 months has all of your work since the listed date been outside of Montana do you currently reside in Montana were you in the military since the listed date did you work for any federal government employers since the listed date click save and continue are you filing or reactivating your claim because of a direct or indirect impact from kovat 19 also known as coronavirus examples of direct or indirect kovat 19 impacts include your employer has directed you to leave work or not report for work because the employer is experiencing a reduction in demand or availability of materials you are subject to a kovat 19 quarantine you are a caregiver of a family member who is the subject of a Cova denied teen quarantine click Save and continue answer the able and available questions are you a seasonal worker from the list of dates how many hours per week did you typically work are you available to accept or return to full-time work is there any other reason you cannot accept immediate full-time employment such as childcare or transportation are there any hours or days customary to your usual occupation you are not willing to work is there a medical reason you cannot accept full-time work you may receive additional questions depending on your answers answer all additional questions click save and continue answer the occupation and wage expectation questions what is your primary occupation you can also list a secondary occupation what hours and days did you typically work with your last employer what was your wage from your last employer and what was the rate of pay what is the lowest wage you are willing to accept click save and continue answer the special circumstance questions have you recently filed a workers compensation claim are you currently receiving workers compensation payments are you currently engaged in self-employment are you currently attending school click Save & continue you may receive additional questions on the next page answer all additional questions answer the retirement Social Security and disability status questions are you currently receiving Social Security retirement benefits have you applied for or are you receiving any other pension payments or benefits are you currently receiving Social Security disability you applied for or are you receiving any other disability payments or benefits you may receive additional questions depending on your answers click save and continue read through the work history acknowledgement after reading the acknowledgement click I acknowledge then click Save and continue you will then be directed to the work history page your recent employers will be presented to you look for your most recent employer in the list if your most recent employer is not listed answer no to this question you will be prompted to search for the missing employer enter the employer information and click search then choose the most likely account if you cannot find your employer in the search select manually add to provide more information on the employer so the claims processing center can find the appropriate account on your claim if your most recent employer is listed click additional questions on the right side of the row you will be asked to confirm you worked for this employer you will also be asked to provide your first day of employment last day of employment as well as the reason the employment ended for each of your employers answer the questions and click Save and continue you will be directed to the work history page continue answering the additional questions for all your listed employers once all the listed employer's showed the questions are complete answer the questions below if there are any missing employers from the listed dates you must add them to the list by using the search tool once you have listed all your employment since the listed dates click Save and continue depending on the separation reason you may be asked additional questions be sure to answer all additional questions you may receive additional questions regarding separation pay depending on your last date of employment if you are receiving severance pay or accrued sick or vacation pay from your last employer you will be required to report it here are you a member of a union if no click no then click save and continue if you are a member of a union click yes and answer the additional questions do you have an agreement to return to full-time work for a previous employer or to start full-time work with a new employer if not click no then save and continue if yes click yes if you are returning to work with an employer listed in your work history click search to create a list of those employers and then select which employer you are returning to work with if the employer is not listed click employer not listed above and use the search tool to manually add the appropriate employer once you have selected the employer you are returning to work with click OK and enter the approximate date of your expected return to consistent full-time employment click Save and continue select your preferred method of payment if you wish to receive direct deposit payments you will be asked for your account and routing information double check the information you provide read the withholding of federal income tax page and answer if you would like the 10% federal income tax to be withheld from benefits after reading and answering click I acknowledge and then save and continue the final review and edit page is your opportunity to go back and revise any information before submitting your claim you will also be asked to report your primary occupation above click search type in your primary occupation and then click the magnifying glass icon you will be presented at a list of the closest matching occupations select the appropriate occupation not all occupations will be listed exactly so you may need to choose the closest match once you have selected your occupation you can edit any of your previous responses when your answers are ready click Save and continue the claim and agreement addresses your responsibilities with unemployment you are required to read through the claimant agreement and acknowledge you have read and understood the material it contains you will then select how you would like to receive and read your claimant handbook after acknowledging the clayman agreement and selecting how you wish to read the claimant handbook click Save and continue the final step to file your claim is to read through and acknowledge your responsibilities with your claim once you have read and acknowledged the listed responsibilities click file my claim you can now review the summary of your claim you can also upload any additional documents such as your sf8 sf50 DD form to one for pay stubs or additional information for a pending issue depending on your situation you may have issues affecting your eligibility for benefits issues are processed by the claims processing center in the order they are received during this investigation benefits will not be paid until you are found fully eligible if an examiner has additional questions they will contact you by phone and/or physically mail you additional questions you can follow the status of pending issues from the Montana Works dashboard once a decision is made a decision letter will be mailed to you and the status of the issue will update on Montana works it is essential that you file your payment request while issues are processed as you may be entitled to back payment for the weeks you requested when you are finished reviewing the claim summary page click save and exit you have now finished filing your unemployment claim
