nowadays no right those times are over isn't it now we have the computer-based system where you have to type in your answers isn't it so that's basically how we write the exam nowadays so guys we at fintram has conducted a lot of research and we've identified that some students are actually struggling with the computer-based environment because they don't know as to how exactly can they efficiently utilize this particular environment that is why i am here okay i am here to help you familiarize with the computer-based environment because we've already we had finra already looked at be prepared for the exam and of course we also provide mock exams as well now we are going to look at the how part how exactly will we tackle the computer-based exam so guys i think the first question that you may have in your mind is as to why exactly have they introduced the computer-based exam right let me address that particular question first of all guys i would like you to look at the business industries nowadays okay the modern business industry in the modern business industry there's a lot of technological advancements isn't it for example do they prepare documents in a with a pen and paper nowadays no right they use microsoft word document or other similar software software softwares isn't it and they also use other accounting softwares as well like such as tally oracle etc and there's a lot of software's like that like sage canvas etc uh that can be that that companies or corporates use in order to carry out their processes even financial processes as well so that is why our professional body has introduced the acc exam because our professional body acca wants their future generation of professionals to become up-to-date professionals okay they should be up to date and the demand level should not decline that is basically why they've introduced the computer-based and exam so that we can be the best of the best professionals in the industry so guys let's talk about the computer-based exams how are the computer-based exams let's take a look at that guys now well acca has also provided with the workspace so that we can become more compatible with the computer-based environment that is why they also provide us with past paper questions in the computer-based format okay this is a just a pass paper question for the subject audit and assurance okay guys so this will be the first page that you will see in your exam okay and this particular first page contains a lot of in introduction phase and the instructions that you need to follow okay this is basically the exam structure of the particular exam for example uh in the audit and assurance exam you have two sections right in the first section there are three otqs and in section b there is a 30 mark question and two 20 mark questions okay so these all are the things that is stated in the introduction phase and in the next phase there are instructions okay instructions that you need to follow and that carries on with four pages and you will have 10 minutes to read all these instructions okay guys because yeah they also explain aspects relating to all the tools available in the exam as well okay so there's actually two navigation keys here there's the next key and there's the previous key and i don't think it's it's actually kind of obvious as to what they do right the next key moves to the next page and the previous key moves to the previous page oh and if i don't scroll uh scroll the scroll bar to the bottom this warning appears okay and what does this say you have not yet viewed the entire screen please use all scroll bars and or open any on-screen exhibits before trying again what this means is that our examiner is actually quite concerned ourselves so uh they they're telling us to review everything okay to look at everything before moving on that is basically why there's such a warning okay so let's click okay to this and move down the scroll bar and then click on previous now it went to the previous page hasn't it and can you look at as to what all things are stated here flag for review help calculator working or scratch part etc okay all these things we will be discussing all these things guys okay the instruction actually provides you with as to what all are the functions with this but let me just give you some tips on that as well okay and then there's the third page and the fourth page and actually the next page so guys this is basically the exam summary page okay this basically provides a summary as to how the exam will be okay for example if it's a performance management exam there will be three sections if it's an audit and assurance exam there will be two sections etcetera okay and of course the marks available for each uh each sections as well if we click on next in this particular page guys okay oh i haven't scrolled it down so uh that is why there is such a page arising if i scroll down and click on the next page a warning appears and what is this warning this warning is that you are going to begin the exam and when you begin the exam the timer starts running isn't it so that is basically why there is a warning here okay the timer well time is actually quite precious in the exam isn't it so the actual time for the exam will start running after you click this particular yes button okay this is just a common uh exam workspace so there's no timer here so don't worry about that but in the real exam there will be timer and you have to worry about that okay you don't have to worry about that you should you just need to have a strategy regarding that okay so this is the first page in the audit and assurance exams there's the section a okay now let's take a look at this particular page guys what all options are there in this particular page there is actually the navigator option guys what exactly does this particular option do well when i click on that it provides us with a summary of list of questions that is in the exam okay so there are like okay 20 25 questions in this particular sample paper okay also i've reviewed it and now what i'm going to do is when i click next in this page okay when this page appears the timer will already be starting okay so quickly click click next to attend the first question so there we have the first question okay mcqs will be uh something like this in the uh audit and assurance exam there is actually otqs okay and what is an otq it's basically a scenario okay there will be a big scenario which is given on this particular page which is the left side and in the right side you have the question as well as the requirement or the mcqs relating to the scenario okay so that's basically about this is basically the audit and assurance exam that is why it is like this for let's see let's take a look at the structure of let's see a pm exam okay and there you have it this is the section b question of a pm paper and it's kind of similar isn't it similar as to what we saw in section a of the audited assurance exam right so yeah same formula now let's take let's go back to the uh auditor naturals so guys what else is there there is actually quite a lot of options here isn't it there is the calculator option in the cbe exam we will be provided with the calculator on our screen okay when i click this option a calculator will appear okay that's quite a big calculator isn't it so the calculator can either be a scientific calculator or a standard calculator as well oh sorry about that and the standard calculator is not that sophisticated right because for uh each exams we need to use different calculators like for the pm or fm exam you may need to use the uh scientific calculator whereas for the fr paper or the origin assurance paper you may use you may only need to use the standard calculator okay and speaking out about this calculator you can either click the numbers using the cruiser okay using the cruiser or you can just type it in for example one two three four five six seven nine into eight when i click enter the answer will appear which because enter is the equal to sign okay and if i click on backspace then everything will be cleared okay so that's basically how this works okay guys that's basically how the calculator works now what else there is the scratch pad okay something called the scratch pad during the paper based exams you will you'll be provided with a rough sheet right rough sheet to do the rough workings just like that in the computer-based exams you have a scratch pad okay you can type anything you want in this particular thing okay and let's say if you have to have the information for a particular information for the next few questions you can type it in here or if you have to do any rough workings you can do it here as well okay and one thing that you need to note is that even if you do your workings in a scratch pad it will not be marked unless you do it in the word processing file okay because the scratch pad will not be reviewed by the examiner okay so whatever you write here is just rough work nothing will be marked okay so remember that and what else guys there is the flag for review option let's say that i've attended this particular question okay i'm just giving a random uh answer and i flagged it what do we what do we use flag option for we use it for flagging of the question if we are doubtful about a question we flag it so that at the end review screen we can actually take a look at it again if we have the time okay so that's basically what the flag option is about and when we reach the end review screen screen i will explain as to what i mean by that okay now we also have the help option at the bottom left okay what does the help option give us let's take a look guys the help option the content of the help option can differ from subject to subject okay because this is the audit and assurance paper so it gives us an introduction as or instruction as to how the audit and assurance exam is and the tools in dcb environment etc okay but if we move on to the move on to another subject let's take a look at the taxation subject okay this is the sample paper of the taxation exam and if i take a look at the help button i will also be provided with the instructions as always there will be instructions relating to the cbe as well as there will be exam instructions and then there is something called the tax table right because there are certain tax rates that you need to remember in the taxation exam and some of these taxa tax rates will be provided to you in the table and this can be accessed using the using the particular help option okay so that's basically what it is and help options contents as i said can differ from subject to subject if let's say we are taking the pm exam okay the pm exam the help button will contain a formula sheet for the pm exam such as the learning curve the demand curve etc okay yeah that's just it and if you're taking a look at the fm exam here again you have a formula sheet containing the formulas relating to fm paper like the eoq or the return point spread capital asset pricing model etc okay these formulas are also given in the help button so remember that guys okay well but in the fr and double a paper guys okay in the fr and double a paper there is actually uh not much things that you will be given okay there's no formula there it's all accounting treatments and theory isn't it so that's basically why there's not much uh help there now let me just navigate to a section c question or in the double a paper there's only section b so let's take a look at that guys a section b question what all things are there hmm quite curious isn't it guys there is also an option known as the symbol option okay and what is the purpose of the simple option well this is this basically provides some currency simple for example in the taxation exam if you are attending the uk variant of the taxation exam then you will have to use pound rates right and if there's other way in there they'll you'll use other currencies but in the all other exams like the pm fm or uh the fr or double a exam you just use the dollar sign okay so you can find the dollar sign in this simple option and guys this is just the workspace so a particular option is not in this particular workspace and that is the highlight option okay in the exam you will be provided with the highlight option near the scratch pad okay and what is the purpose it's kind of obvious isn't it you can use it to highlight important aspects in the scenario you can select the region and just click on it so that it'll highlight okay so that's basically the highlight option and it'll come in really handy especially in the double a exam because there's a lot of important information that you need to highlight isn't it so that's basically what it is and a peculiar thing about the sorry not the highlight option uh the double a exam is that most of these double a exam will be in a word processing file okay it's not an excel sheet this is it it will be in a word processing file and this file will actually contain the format for which you will have to answer okay and this particular aspect is only for the audit and assurance paper okay so you will be provided with the table containing for example in this question what does this question contain oh this is just a direct theory question in uh double a so let's move on to another question but before that i need to scroll down the screen isn't it so when i click on next the let's take a look at this particular question an audit and assurance paper you will be asked to identify certain deficiencies recommend controls and test of controls as well isn't it so in this particular word processing file you are already provided with the three columns okay and this three columns is actually the format in which you will have to answer this particular question isn't it so that's basically what another feature of the exam of origin ashrams okay you will be provided with the table and let's say that if a case arises where you're not provided with the table then you can draw a table yourself using this particular option okay you just have to insert the number of rows and columns that you need and a table will be inserted okay so let's take a look at the word processing file guys okay this is this is the area where you will have to type your main answer okay so there's a lot of tools available here let's take a look at each of these tools okay so guys the first tool that we're going to look at is the reset tool and let me just say that don't ever push this button now you're curious as to what it is isn't it so guys a reset button is when you will reset all your answer for example let's say that i'm typing in an answer this is just doesn't make any sense i'm just typing a random answer okay when you type the reset button a warning will appear and this warning states that are you sure you want to reset resetting will remove any response you have made on this item and reset back to an unanswered state if i click ok then my entire answer will be reset to clear okay it's basically clearing all the answer that you've written so i don't think there would be a need to press this button so i would rather avoid this button okay because the symbol of this button can actually be confused with something of a safe nature isn't it is it the same o tion etc so don't get mistaken by it okay so don't ever push that button that's a reset button and then we have the cut copy and paste option well we have an option here but guys a more efficient way to do this would be by using shortcuts isn't it so let me demonstrate that i'm typing in a control deficiency let's say i'm saying controls are deficient sorry controls are let's say lacking so guys oh i made a mistake there isn't it so guys what if what do i need to do if i need to copy this well i could just select this and click on the copy and then i could select here and then i could click on paste right and there you have it and if i need to move this particular thing to let's say a column the next column the test of controls column then what i what will i do i will just cut it and then click it here to and click on paste well this is actually a boring process isn't it so what i would rather do okay if i want to cut in a paste or copy what i would do is i would just select this and click on control c and i'll click on the row where i want to paste it and click on control v okay so remember that shortcut control c is for copy and ctrl v is for paste okay and i'm selecting this entire thing again because i want to move it to the next column then what do i do then i would click on control x and then control v so guys now do you understand as to what exactly is the point of telling this because i'm demonstrating shortcuts to you okay control c is for copy control x is for cut and control v is for paste okay so you can use this shortcuts rather than moving the cruiser okay like guys what i would like to say is that moving the cruiser actually takes a lot of time rather than using shortcuts isn't it because shortcuts is actually the most efficient way right and you don't and time in your exam is actually kind of precious isn't it so you will have to utilize it efficiently so i recommend using shortcuts okay now what else is there there's the undo and redo option wow and what does that mean guys i've done a lot of things here haven't i i've typed in controls are lacking i've typed in i copied it into the second column but i didn't want there so i moved it to the test of control column now what if i wanted to undo everything well if i click on the undo button then i haven't pasted it yet now have i and if i click on it again it moves back to this particular position so what have i done i've conducted certain actions in the particular answer sheet and i want to undo that actions so i am actually brought back for backward in time right so where i conducted this particular action what i've done here is that i've actually pasted here i haven't cut it and pasted it to the next column now have i so that's basically what this is guys if you and there's a shortcut to undo and redo okay so let me demonstrate that shortcut okay guys control z is for undo and control y is for redo okay so if i have to redo what i did earlier if i want to move it move the control recommendation back to the test of control column then i'll just click control y and click it again and i've copied and pasted it doesn't i but if i don't want that what will i do i will just use ctrl c to undo my actions so that's basically what this option basically is okay guys now what else is there guys oh and there's a binocular why why exactly would we need a binocular in the exam anyway well let's take a look at that guys this particular option is called find and replace and what does this do let's say i i'm typing in a few things okay guys let's see i'm typing in control no internal control quality control and then stuff control these are just common words it doesn't make any sense i know but i'm just demonstrating the function isn't it so what i'll do is i'll click on find and replace and there's uh there's a box that appears like this okay and what i'll do is uh i will type in as to the word that i need to or the sentence or phrase that i need to find okay for example i i have to find the word control okay and i will replace it using another word such as let's say deficiency now if i select find then the system will find all the words in my answer that has the word control okay and if i click on replace all then all the controls that they found in the system has been replaced by the word deficiency hasn't it so this is how the find and replace button works and when do we use it guys guys this is basically used when you have to when you made a mistake okay when you made a mistake let's say a spelling mistake and you need to find that particular word and then you replace that word okay replace that word to its correct spelling so that's basically when you use it it's used in rare situations isn't it now if i click on ctrl z what will happen everything will turn back to normal isn't it so that's basically what it does now moving on to other options there is the bold option italic option underline option and strikethrough option so guys what does this basic option basically does well it's a text formatting option right if i select internal control here and click on bold it will be bolded isn't it and what if i click on i what will happen italic and if i click on you it will provide an underline as well okay these are all text formatting and there's an easy way to do this right there is actually a shortcut to typing bold and italic and underline and the shortcut is basically like this control b control i and control u okay let's say that i'm typing it in again and i've selected it and i'm pressing ctrl b now it is a bit bolder isn't it if i press ctrl i it is italic this formatted to italic and then if i press u they'll provide an underline as well okay so these are the shortcuts to ah bi and u options okay you don't have to move your cruiser and click on it to do that okay you just have to use the shortcut it's an easy way isn't it now guys what is the s stands for the s is for strikethrough and what does this do let's take a look if i strike through then this will happen okay the word is striking through and i don't think we will use this particular option in the exam so what i'm going to do is i will say i will i may accidentally use or click on this option and then there's a strikethrough then what will happen guys if i go and click on strikethrough again will it vanish no it doesn't isn't it so there's a possibility that an error can arise in your exam right such an error and if the examiner sees something striking then do you think that he'll read it no right so what do you what will you have to do you will have to just select this and click on this option this option is known as the clear formatting option if there is any formatting provided to a text what is formatting basically bold italics underline and strikethrough okay if there's any such formatting given to a particular letter or text by clicking this option you are clearing everything okay guys now the particular text is back to normal isn't it so that's basically all the options okay and then we have the subscript and superscript option what exactly does that do well it's basically regarding numbers okay it won't come in handy in this particular uh exam audit and assurance but it may come in handy in let's say the pm exam or the fm exam okay what is a subscript by the way 46 you need to add a subscript to 46 how will you add it well you basically click on this option and type two okay a subscript is provided with two and what if you want to type 46 square what what then you'll have to click on the superscript option and press 2 now it's 46 square isn't it so that's basically how this options work okay and then there are some common uh options that you may be familiar with in the microsoft word office software such as the paragraph okay are you writing a paragraph or a heading you can provide a big heading small one and very small one as well okay sorry so that's basically all about here and then there's the table option as i stated earlier you can insert table and of course format table add cells column rows etc and this particular option what exactly does these options do this is in order for you to align a paragraph okay for example if i click on this particular text and align it to the left it's already on the left side but if i if i need to let's see add a heading to the center of the page then i'll click on align center now it's in the center of the cell or if it's a heading it will be in the center of your page okay align to the right means it's it's more you know aligned to the right and then this means that it's a bit more elaborate okay it it touches both sides it touches both left and right and we don't need to use that okay that's a kind of an unprofessional means to use to this particular option so we will stick on to align left okay because that's a bit more professional way to present our answer and what else is there guys there's the bullet points now guys speaking about bullet points when you write bullet points you need to write a statement along with the bullet points okay sometimes what most students common students do is that they type let's say uh the advantages of let's say outsourcing outsourcing is good that is no no not like that they provide generic words or phrases as bullet points okay rather than a full statement when you're writing a bullet point you will definitely have to write a full statement okay not just something like easily understandable quickly prepare not like that okay this particular function is easily understandable that's a full sentence isn't it rather than just providing a bullet point that says quickly understandable so you have to be specific and you have to write an entire sentence okay otherwise it's quite unprofessional and the examiner may not like it answering like that okay so that's basically something that you need to avoid and of course especially in the audit and assurance exam you can use bullet points to write substantive procedures okay and of course there's the numbered list well instead of points we're using numbers that's just it okay and then there's these two options decrease and decrease and increase intent what does this mean guys if i click here and click on increase intent it will move to the right okay and if i decrease and turn it will move to the left that's basically it okay okay these are all paragraph formatting options okay so these are all the options in the computer-based environment and this is an audit and assurance exam so the tables will be provided and in the audit and assurance exams there is uh majorly only the word processing sheets okay there is no excel file so let's move to another exam to take a look at the excel sheets okay and there you have an example of the taxation exam guys okay this is an excel sheet in the taxation exam and what all options does this particular sheet contain well in the taxation exam as i have stated in the help option there will be the tax tables and we have the a few options here there's the edit option here isn't it what does the edit option contain there is undo redo copy paste these are all some peculiar options isn't it and we know these shortcuts to these as well okay so and then there is the formatting option such as bold italic and underline and the controls are actually stated here as well but in the main exam it may not be stated okay so now what other options are there there's a reset option here as well guys okay and then there is cut copy paste and paint format what is pain format guys well this is basically an option let's say that you're coloring a particular cell okay you are highlighting a particular cell using yellow yes there is quite a lot of colors and when you click on this particular option and you move it here then that particular pane format is actually copied to the next column okay or an easy way to do this is by just stating what control v control z and control v can be used to use instead of this option as well okay so remember that now now the what other options are there there's the undo and redo options and then we have the size option okay how much should we zoom in that's basically what is stated here if we zoom in 200 what will happen it's too much zooming in isn't it so what do we do we'll just decrease the size let's say 75 could be a generous size isn't it in order to type your answer in and what else there is the size of the text okay if you're providing heading you can increase the size of the headings and if you're writing the normal uh numbers then you can just type uh use the use 11 as a average size okay if you want to increase more go ahead now i do recommend that you use a bigger size for your headings okay let's say size let's say 12 or 14 for headings and 11 or 12 for normal numbers okay so not more than that okay not more than that that will be just overdoing things okay that will be a bit more on professional that is why i'm recommending you this okay so let's see 13 or 14 for headings and 11 or 12 for the content or body okay so that's basically one thing and then there's the bold option italic option new option and you already know the shortcuts don't you and then there is the a option or the text color option which is which simplifies which is symbolized with an a capital letter a and a color okay this is basically when you color the text guys okay a text for example i've typed in a number here haven't i if i select this and i click on here let's see i'm giving the color dark blue here now the color has actually shifted to blue isn't it it's kind of not visible isn't it so i'll use a different color with memo yeah red now it's color has shifted right so the text color has shifted by using this particular option and by using the fill color you're actually providing a color to the background okay so that's basically what will happen using this particular options okay and guys this is when acca students get more artistic okay i have a few students who actually wrote something like this in the exam okay though in their their exam paper was actually like a rainbow okay so avoid that okay it's actually unprofessional use standard colors i highly recommend that you if you if you want to use colors you can use colors for headings okay no paragraph and if you would like to highlight the answer to the particular examiner then you will have to bold the answer and maybe you can highlight it using a yellow color yellow shape fill color in an excel sheet okay and no other text formatting is a professional guys okay so i highly recommend that if you want to use colors then you can provide a color to the heading and when i say provide the color to heading avoid using bright colors okay avoid using bright colors like yellow or a bright red or something like that okay it is actually professional you to use a bit more darker colors like like the dark blue or brown or something like that okay dark green etc okay use dark colors for stating uh specific aspects such as headings okay and for the body i highly recommend that you use the color black and if you like to highlight a particular answer let's say in the excel sheet there will be a final answer right if you want to highlight that particular option then you can do what use or highlight it using a yellow background to the a particular cell or just bold the answer okay that's an easy way now moving on there is these three options are something that we already looked at in word processing and then there is the decimal point option okay what does this mean i'm typing in a decimal number let's say 33.3333 okay and if i choose this there is actually a particular format in which i can actually type this in okay let me just choose a different number so if i choose a specific format then if i use this particular format this particular format states that there is no decimal position isn't it so if i choose this then the number will be 33 333 okay there is no decimal point here now is there oh let me just move that there's no decimal point here now is there so that's basically this format and if i can change to add decimal points then i'll choose this option which has two decimal places some answers actually requires you to have two decimal points so if if they ask something like that you can just use these options to format it okay if you want to add a comma after the uh thousandth you know digit then you can use this particular format as well okay so yeah this is actually a bit odd it isn't now yeah that's all for that particular option and then we have the currency option guys okay this is basically to provide a currency to a specific matter for example uh the currency will be shown in dollar red okay i'd avoid using that just insert a symbol and type the number okay that's more easily and efficient okay and then there's the percentage format we can actually add a percentage as a whole number or as let's say ah a number with two decimal places or a percentage with one decimal place okay so that's basically what this is and then we have the fraction as well okay the decimal point will be changed into fractions okay so that's basically what this particular aspect mean and then we have the date and time format as well okay we can shift a particular number into a date and time format using this particular option okay so that's basically all that is there guys okay and guys another peculiar thing about the excel sheets is that you can actually use formatting guys okay for example you can use formulas okay for example i'm typing 10 15 25 45 okay i can use a function to calculate the sum of this for example equal to sum of an open bracket and i'll just select these two these options and i'll press just click enter and i have the total amount of the above four cells isn't it so that's basically how it's done okay i have the total amount of the above four cells and i calculated this total using the sum function okay just like the sum function there's a lot of other function especially for the financial management paper you can use functions like equal to nrv which represents the uh net present value not nrv sorry npv which represents the net present value and equal to irr which represents the internal rate of returns etc okay these uh formulas are actually allowed in the exam okay so keep that in mind and keep learn all the formulas before you attend the exam okay guys and that's all for the options guys okay we've already looked at all the tools that are available here right and we will if we've learned a few shortcuts and tips and tricks as well didn't we so if i let's say go to the final page oh i haven't viewed the screen yet is just a demo but in the real exam you will have to do this okay guys the oh sorry it wasn't the next so we're in the last page and when i click next here i will be shown to the review screen okay this is the screen that shows as to whether the whether you have attended all the questions okay in the exam there won't be an option that states as to whether the answer is correct or incorrect this is just the work space that is why it shows like this okay in the exam you won't be you won't know
