what's up you guys steve here with your unemployment update and as you know there has been a lot unfolding in congress with unemployment so in today's video i'm gonna get you caught up on the latest as we saw just a couple days ago president joe biden has changed the eligibility requirements for those who can collect so a lot of people are going to get a lot of money because it's backdated all the way to march of 2020 and you can get any boosts that you missed as well so i'm going to be clarifying that just a little bit but also i've got people asking me who do i contact how do i do this where do i go so also i'm going to give you a comprehensive list directly from the us department of labor's website for every single u.s state and providence for who you need to call to get a hold of the unemployment office for your state so just going to provide that for you because a lot of people are saying i don't know where to go what to do and a lot of people are telling me i've never been on unemployment i don't understand the process how this works and everything's changing right now with congress during the pandemics so what i'm going to do in today's video is i'm going to explain all the programs to you as simply and easily as i can so that way you understand the process and i'm going to do it in chronological order so stick with me throughout the video because as you've seen the rules have been changing it's like playing monopoly and in the beginning you get 200 for passing go but then halfway through it becomes 400 and then they change the rules again so i'm going to do it in chronological order so you understand what has unfolded over the course of time and i'm going to do it up to today february the 28th and keep in mind that if you're watching this after march 15th the rules are probably going to change again because right now congress is proposing another stimulus package that's going to change things up for benefits once again so you guys i'm gonna get you caught up on everything i'm hoping that this will answer all of your questions if you got friends that got questions send them this video hopefully this can be the answer for all of the the questions you have on unemployment in today's video so let's go ahead and dive right in alright so first very quickly i'm just going to summarize for you guys the most recent changes that took place a couple days ago from president joe biden now if you want to get it in more depth in more detail be sure to check it out in this video right here where i cover it as it came out when i gave you guys the breaking news but just to summarize a couple days ago president joe biden changed the eligibility requirements and a lot of people who were deemed ineligible for benefits now they're going to be able to collect them and it can be back dated and back paid all the way till march of 2020 along with boosts now we saw this article come out it says biden administration expands unemployment insurance rules to allow workers who turn down unsafe job offers and it says this was announced thursday and it's going to be effective immediately so in other words if you received a job offer but you felt that it was an unsafe environment due to the pandemic and you turned it down and then the unemployment office said you could not collect benefits because you turned down work well they're saying now you can collect and you need to contact them right away to get that fixed and from that time that you were deemed ineligible you can get back paid and all the way back till march and if there were boosts during that time like the fpuc 600 per week boost or any of those you can get those as well so you're going to want to contact them right away so that just unfolded a couple days ago all right so you might be wondering so who do i contact about this or if i need an extension or i just need to contact somebody where do i go well i'm going to put a link in the description below to this video and it's going to direct you to the us department of labor's official website for unemployment and there you're going to find every single us state and providence's contact information for their unemployment offices so when you click the link it's going to take you to a page that looks like this it's going to say the us department of labor's official website it's going to say unemployment insurance relief during the pandemic you're going to scroll down until you get to the news releases you're going to go past that frequently asked questions past that keep going down until you get to the u.s map and you'll see all the states there including the providences you'll see puerto rico you'll see the u.s virgin islands and then you can see here here is the list and it's got the names the agency office name phone numbers and websites for every single state so you'll be able to reach out and contact them through this link and i would recommend that you reach out to them through their website through the phone number through email every single way that you can every single day until you get help because right now there's a lot of people and it's hard to get through but the squeaky wheel gets the oil and i've had people tell me one day they'll call in they'll get a hold of somebody and they'll tell them just wait till next week but then i'll tell them call in the next day again and they'll do so and they'll get a totally different person and they'll help them on the spot over the phone so definitely i'd recommend reaching out consistently and use these links and just very quickly here's a screenshot of all of the states so that way you can see here's alabama through california go ahead and pause the video if you need to write down the phone number if you need to call them here's colorado through florida here's georgia through indiana here's iowa through maine here's maryland through mississippi missouri through new hampshire new jersey a lot of numbers for new jersey depends where you're at new jersey through north dakota ohio through puerto rico rhode island through texas u.s virgin islands through washington and west virginia through wyoming and once again i just went through very quickly and if you need those phone numbers or those those uh websites go ahead and pause that video on that part and go ahead and write it down all right you guys now let's discuss unemployment benefits i'm gonna let you know all the different programs and how they progress throughout the course of the pandemic so very quickly i'm going to be covering pua pandemic unemployment assistance i'm going to be discussing peuc the extension that's provided after you exhaust your benefits and fpuc which is the boost that's added on top of your benefits this is going to give you extra money every single week now also we sell briefly lwa i'll just discuss that very briefly as well but let's go ahead and get started so first off when you become unemployed normally before the pandemic you would get unemployment insurance or ui and that is through your state well when the pandemic struck there were so many people who are normally not eligible for that like self-employed gig workers independent contractors that they lost work as well but couldn't get that they the federal government said let's create a new program called pua specifically for those people that are not eligible for ui so now during the pandemic when you become unemployed you go down one of two paths you either go down state unemployment insurance or you go down the path of federal pua so i'm going to be discussing both of them so that way you can get caught up on each one and i'm going to start off with state unemployment benefits the path you go down then i'm going to be discussing pua the path you go down then i'll break down peuc and the boosts for you so let's start off with state unemployment benefits all right so state unemployment benefits or ui so when you become unemployed your state is going to allocate for you a certain amount of weeks that you're able to collect benefits for now it's going to vary state to state could be less could be more but for most states and here in california it's about 26 weeks that you're able to collect over the course of 52 weeks now they do it like this because let's say that you're able to get some part-time work here for a little bit let's say like two weeks you can pause your benefits you're well aware the fact that you're still unemployed this isn't permanent but you can get that pay for those two weeks then once that's done you can pick the unemployment back up as you look for permanent work so that's why they do it like that now when the pandemic struck it turned on it triggered on this thing called eb as well or extended benefits now some states call it different things but for the most part it's called eb and what it does is when the unemployment rate specifically in your state goes up past a certain point past a certain threshold they'll say okay we've got an unemployment issue here in the state and people might be unemployed for quite some time so we're going to give them an additional amount of weeks to collect once they've exhausted all their unemployment insurance or their ui they can then go to eb so here in california when we went past that certain threshold they gave you an extra 13 weeks of benefits so when your 26 weeks was exhausted you got onto eb that gave you 13 more but here in california it went up so high it triggered on another extension of an extra seven weeks so they gave you 20 weeks of extended benefits now the downside to this is that if the unemployment rate starts to drop and you're still unemployed and it goes past that threshold again but down then it'll trigger it off and so what we've seen in a lot of states that had eb was suddenly it just they got cut off and a lot of people were like where did my benefits go and they said the eb is now over and keep in mind this is state specific so there's some states where they still might have eb and there's other states where it's totally cut off but that is what is offered on the state program so that's that path you can get ui then you can get eb now once that's done you can also switch over to the federal program of peuc which i'm going to be discussing here shortly but that is the path of state unemployment benefits now if you're not eligible for state unemployment benefits or ui you're going to go down the federal path and you're going to be collecting pua and in my opinion this is much more simple and straightforward because it doesn't vary state to state they're going to give you a certain amount of weeks to cover you for a specific amount of time and that's pretty much it so pua is a lot more simple now when you exhaust your pua you can't get eb that's a state extended benefit but you can get peuc which is the federal extension and peuc you can get it whether you're on state or on federal benefits but it's a federal program so we're going to be discussing that but those are the two paths you're either going to go down state unemployment in eb or you're going to go down federal pua but now let's discuss peuc now this is really great because it's going to extend out your benefits but i wish a lot more states were clear that this is available to you because i get people all the time that reach out and say my pua expired my extended benefits got cut off i'm not sure what to do what do i do now and it's you go to peuc you contact your state and you need to find out how you can get on the peuc extension now when this first passed back in march it provided an additional i think it was 13 weeks that you can get peuc now the current one that's in place right now is going to cover you for 11 weeks from the weeks of december 27th all the way out to the week of march 14th so at this time everybody should have benefits you should either be getting p e u c p u a unemployment or e some form of eb but right now everybody should be covered but once you've exhausted all your benefits then peuc comes into play now when this first got signed into law back in march of 2020 with the cares act the federal government provided those that needed pua and peuc with the allocated amount of weeks and they could use it all the way out till december 26th of 2020 but that was the hard cut off deadline so some people exhausted all their benefits early and they said sorry that's all you were given and then some people they became unemployed maybe the week before december 26th and they only got one week of benefits because it was a hard cut off on december 26 pua and peuc expired but as you guys know we were still in the middle of the pandemic and congress stepped up and passed another stimulus package on december 27th of 2020 which allocated another 11 week extension of pua and peuc so right now it is specific for these 11 weeks from the weeks of december 27 2020 to the week of march 14 2021 everybody should be covered with pua peuc or some form of unemployment benefits so that's taking place right now but it is once again a hard cut off deadline so if you've been unemployed since last year or you become unemployed today all benefits of pua and peuc end on that date that will let some people go out until april 5th for some special situations but that's it after that it comes to an end now as you know right now currently proposed on the table is another stimulus package the american rescue plan which is proposing extending these out once again until august 29th and i'll be sure to let you guys know if that passes but that is currently what's taking place with pua and peuc but now let's discuss the fpuc which is the boost that adds extra money every single week on top of your benefits now back in march with the cares act not only did they pass pua and peuc but they also passed a boost known as fpuc which added an additional 600 per week on top of your unemployment benefits regardless of whether you were collecting state or federal and this was pretty much for everybody anybody collecting as little as one dollar per week from benefits you're able to get this boost but it didn't last as long as pua and peuc it was set to expire at the end of july so as soon as august hit there was a lot of people worried because suddenly they saw their unemployment benefits reduced by 600 per week so congress started working frantically to pass some sort of extension but they couldn't agree on anything so it fell apart so shortly after we saw former president donald trump sign an executive memorandum known as lwa where he reallocated fema disaster relief funds to this lwa program which provided a boost of 300 per week but it only lasted for three to six weeks depending on your state and how quickly they were ble to apply get approved and implement this new funding so some states they got three weeks of 300 per week and some states they got six weeks just depended on your state but also the eligibility for this was different for lwa it was only for those who were collecting 100 per week or more of unemployment benefits anybody who made less than that they weren't able to partake of lwa now after lwa came to an end and all the funds were exhausted that was it and there was no boost but as you guys know on december 27th of 2020 the new stimulus package that passed not only did it provide an extension of 11 weeks for pua and peuc but it also provided an extension of fpuc so for the next 11 weeks from december 27th to march 14th you're able to collect an fpuc boost of 300 dollars per week for that specific duration of time now as i mentioned currently there is a proposal on the table that is going to be extending out pua and peuc to august 29th and it's also going to be proposing extending out the boost but it's going to be bumping it up from 300 to four hundred dollars per week starting effective that week of march 15 2021. so you guys i'll be sure to keep you up to date on that and also if you'd like to see the official text directly from the bill be sure to check it out right here where i cover unemployment and all the benefits in there in the exact 591-page bill known as the american rescue plan and i think it starts on page 400 and i've got a link in that video if you'd like
