so you've heard a lot about the utah concealed carry permit but you're not really sure where to start or what bci is so let me go ahead and give you a quick little guide here to find bci the quickest way to do it is go to a google search and type in utah bci and it's going to be the first to populate for you and for this section here you've got a lot to choose from so which one do you want to go into go ahead and click into the utah concealed farm permit tab and everything that you're going to want for to start with is right here but how do i apply for a permit okay so you found the bci website and now you're wondering how do i apply for the concealed firearm permit well they give you all the steps right here they talk about how much it's going to cost for the application fees who's eligible for it one must accompany your application and uh the weapons familiarity now the weapons familiarity certification is actually the stamp that the instructor will put on your application for the permit make sure that the instructor does put that on there at the end of the class if not when you send everything in you'll be delayed and it's not going to be a whole lot of fun so what about the renewal how do you renew it after five years well you can come here to the bci website and it's got everything in here for you as far as how to renew all the instructions right here all in one place so it makes it very convenient for everybody now again remember bci will send you documentation through snail mail uh to let you know you have many days before your permit expires you need to get everything done before 90 days so that we don't run any any issues if anything is expired past 90 days you'll actually have to take the class over and start over again so it's a lot easier and a lot less household to just make sure you keep everything updated now if you're wondering who might be a concealed carry permit instructor in the state of utah bcaa does have a link right here and this will list all the names of the instructors in the state of utah as well as out of state now in the state of utah it's going to be by county where the instructor resides and for out-of-state instructors obviously it's going to be within the state that that instructor resides so if somebody's saying that they're a concealed carry instructor and something doesn't sound 100 about where they live you know if you find out where their their home residence is or what county they're in you'll be able to actually vet them out and do it by counting so we're all in here and it's a quick and easy way for uh prospective students just to verify who we are and what uh what information you might have on us so for me it's got my name and it's got my website and uh email address uh so one of the things about this that's really good too is say somebody needs to get in contact with an instructor after a period of time they don't know uh the instructor's number they lost the business card they can always come back here to this resource and go ahead and use this for any uh questions down the road so with the out state again it's going to list the instructor by the state of residency and of course it's going to be all 50 states on here in alphabetical order so again another great resource to go ahead and vet your instructor okay clicking over to the states that do honor the utah permits this will cover both the standard permit as well as the provisional permit now the way the state defines these is utah offers a standard permit permit 21 years of age or older and a provisional permit for anybody that's 18 to 20 years of age recognition status columns refer to the states that recognize of utah's permits so let's go ahead and get down into this over here so in this column we've got the states which are in alphabetical order and then the recognition status if they recognize either just the standard only or both or neither the next two columns are going to be for the standard permit and this actually applies for people who may be out of state residence and if uh a home state permit is required to apply for the utah permit and then this other one off to the right for home state permit not required uh to apply for the utah permit what this means is that if somebody is an out-of-state resident that if they do need to get a home state permit before they apply for the utah permit they can check in this uh these two columns right here to see if it's uh mandated now the provisional permit it's going to be the same thing as well um but usually due to the age it might not be required for people to actually have one for their home state so because their home state may not offer them one at all but if you take a look at the recognition status for example alabama will recognize both the standard as well as the provisional alaska standard only arizona standard only arkansas will recognize both and then california of course won't recognize either one of them so when you go down the list it'll give you a really good breakdown of what states recognize us and what states do not recognize us and which ones will accept the provisional and maybe just the uh the standard only from the home page of the bca website if you click on the concealed firearm permits this will give you a quick overview of the uh latest and greatest information uh permits cannot be renewed more than 90 days before they expire bci will already send you a letter through the mail 90 days prior the expiration just let you know that it's expiring in 90 days you need to go ahead and get everything squared away now the concealment or the concealed firearm course where you might have an issue with the instructor or you see something going on with the course materials or something just isn't right go ahead and send an email to bci at this email address right here and they'll go ahead and screw away whatever the problem was they they can send an investigator to talk to you find out what might have happened and then go ahead and investigate the instructor um also if you're doing any kind of uh renewal online make sure it's strictly through the bci website there are some uh fraudulent claims out there that claim to actually renew your your permit where they actually don't all right instruct this portion right here for the concealed firearm instructors as you can see this is not username or password sensitive but this is where all of us instructors go to get the information so right here if you want to become an instructor and um that's something that you might want to do here's a schedule of all the training events that they have also the suicide prevention that we put out in the classes this is actually the course right here for the instructors as well of course you have the uh rep the examples for your ins numbers what they're looking for with that one now this one right here the instructor updates and reminders this is where there's going to be a lot of information that's going to be put out or um you know something that's proprietary and they want everybody to see it rather quickly so this is a great one to go to i'd recommend checking it at least probably once a month at the most now right down here this is the training curriculum that everybody gets in the classes so what uh what the student and the instructor need to remember this goes to everybody this is an important document by law that the instructor has to give to the students and the class it's 54 pages so i strongly recommend that you just save a soft copy of it so that way when it's updated later on you're not going to be missing 54 pieces of paper um it's an easy way to kind of just keep everything updated so i keep it on my cell phone as well as my tablet and my laptop so that's just a good rule of thumb with this one if you happen to move before it's time to renew your concealed firearm permit make sure you send bci an email at this address right here that'll let them know what your new address is and whenever they have any kind of documentation that needs to go out for say renewals or anything like that that they've got the current address for you now when you send them an email make sure that you include your name your concealed firearm permit id number and your new current address bca usually responds within 24 hours of receiving the email so that way you're well aware that they received it and everything should be squared away for you okay under the tab for the provisional concealed firearm permit this will give you all the information here that i've already covered in a couple of the other videos with the slade presentation this will talk about everything that you need to know for the provisional permit you can also get a list right here frequently asked questions as well as your application here now the instructor should be providing you with that but if not that's a link for you to click on and uh let's go ahead and go over to the concealed firearm permit forms and stuff right here so again here you have your applications for the permits and the provisional concealed permits the instructor should provide it for you but if not here's the link for it the renewal application is also found here also the uh replacement application in case you use your wallet or your purse you need a replacement uh cfp uh the application must be filled out and sent to bci go ahead and send in the two the 10 application fee and you get it back within a week or so okay traveling with firearms bci has got a really good source of information here uh for the best practices and also with air travel so definitely check this out before you you travel if you're going by uh air take a look right here with tsa's guidelines are also take a look at the website for the airline that you're traveling with as well as the airport that you're flying out of just make sure you don't have any little hidden surprises all right under the general information you get the basic information here here's the uh portion i was talking about in another slide about churches that uh do not want to have concealed firearm permits on their properties so here we've got the two churches that have led bci no uh check this one regularly just to make sure that uh you're baiting by the law or abiding by the law and you don't have any pitfalls now for those that are in
