thank you so much for joining we hope that by you joining this workshop you're able to understand the the process of the adt at the community college which in this case would be mount san antonio college um ways that you can go ahead and indicate it in the application and some of the resources available to you as well as how it's going to look once you decide to transfer over to cal poly pomona so it's a huge uh road that we would like to go ahead and facilitate that transition for you and get rid of the bigger picture of how it's gonna look for you so again thank you so much for joining but with that being said um i'll go ahead and transition over to the next slide so we do we are collaborating with mount san antonio which we have our presenter we do have our outreach representative as well and then registrar's representative so you're going to be able to hear a little bit of everyone and and and pretty much paying that path for your camino to cal poly pomona and so with that said i will go ahead and pass it over to martin to go ahead and have him introduce himself and then read the presentation from them good afternoon everybody my name is martin gonzalez i'm one of the transfer specialists in the transfer center um and if any of you have ever attended any one of our workshops we i'm typically the one doing some of the csu and uc application workshops so today and the importance of this presentation is is because we realize um both as cal poly pomona and mount sag that sometimes there's a misunderstanding or students aren't unsure of what an adt is what is the purpose of an adt and then what is the difference between an associate's degree versus an associate's degree for transfer so um there is a difference between the two of the a slight difference between the two types of degrees um so just a quick overview of an associate's degree um so there is local degrees at mount sac and now sac actually has close to 80 associates degrees um within these associate's degrees there is two types of degrees there's an associate of arts and associates of in science um so students can earn an associate's degree and and what are some of the advantages some of the pros and cons of earning an associate's degree is that associates degrees do prepare you to enter the workforce um so if any of you are interested in going into like some sort of vocational field into a career a technical field right after uh graduating from sac and you're welcome to do so and a lot of the jobs actually and there's actually studies out there that a lot of jobs do require you to have an associate's degree in order to to qualify to be eligible to to even receive an interview so um that's what an associate's degree can do for you now on the other hand there is also associate degree for transfer and what has happened between the cal states and the community colleges is that they have come to an agreement of a certain a curriculum that you must complete in order to to earn this associate's degree for transfer but some of the benefits of getting an associate's degree for transfer is that all of the cal states have agreed to accept this as a pathway in order for you to transfer out of mount sac so by you completing an associate's degree for transfer if you apply to a similar degree which we'll talk about later on so if you're applying to a similar degree then you'll get um some benefits that we'll also mention later on but it's basically an agreement that that they are guaranteeing you admissions um if you're earning an associate's degree for transfer and at mount sac we actually have 25 associate's degree for transfer um so we have 25 different associates degree for transfer and another common question that we get is when students are filling out their application is i'm earning sometimes students tell me i'm earning an associate in arts for transfer or i'm earning an associate of slasher transfer that's the same as an adt so adt is the umbrella term um within this umbrella we have two types of degrees so under the adts we have an associate of arts um for transfer and then we also have associated science for transfer and uh both of them are associates degrees for transfer so the main difference between one and the other is that um sometimes the associate of science and science for transfer might have a focus on a science class or one example i like to give is the early childhood education that specific degree requires you to do some lab hours um so in order to get that degree you have to finish a lab and that's why it is classified under an associate of science for transfer so we do have 25 different adt's offered at mount sac so if you see your degree up here um you should definitely consult with us or talk to a counselor and see if it's if it's possibly in your best interest to to pursue this track um and as i said as we go through the presentation we'll talk about some of the benefits of why you might be interested in earning it um so what are some of the minimum requirements to earn an associate's degree for transfer at mount stack you must complete a minimum of 60 cal state transferable units and this is also just a general requirement to transfer out you do need a minimum of 60 cal state transferable semester units you must earn a gpa of a 2.0 so if you do not have a 2.0 gpa mount side will not be able to award you an associate's degree for transfer even though you have all the other requirements met within the degrees within the adts an aat or asc most students will will have a minimum of 18 semester units so some degrees do have a little bit more but but none of the degrees will have less than 18 units so you must take 18 units in your specific major so if you're a history major you must take 18 semester units and and there is major sheets that we provide students on our website where you can go check what are the requirement required courses that you must complete um to finish the last requirement is that you complete your general education so within the 60 units um you must also complete the csu general education or if you're following the igetc general education requirement if you're applying to the gcs or possibly interested if you're completing igetc that would also make you eligible to earn the associate degree for transfer uh so how does now sag uh how how do you inform outside that you're ready to earn your associate's degree so most students apply for the associate's degree for transfer the semester they're going to finish taking their last class um so if most of you are applying this fall semester for admissions for fall 2021 um and you're still taking classes next spring most students are encouraged to submit the last semester they're going to be taking for their associate's degree for transfer so if you are taking a psych class and you're finishing let's say most students the last psychology class they take is psychology three so if you're taking that into spring semester it is encouraged that you petition in this spring um to petition the form is now online so we are um accepting the the form online so it is a virtual application that you would need to petition for um if you visit mousetag.edu for slash admissions you could access the form for those students who are applying for admissions right now it is encouraged and suggested that you submit the petition before february the 12th um so that is to ensure that that it does get processed in a in a timely manner and also that you're verified in time so we are encouraging students to submit before february 12th um your application for graduation and that that will inform outside that you are ready to get your associate's degree for transfer um for those of you that will be applying this year the application deadline is december the 4th at our transfer center we do have weekly cal state application workshops so if you visit mouse.edu for slash transfer um and most of you should have visited to sign up to for this for this workshop so if you if you take some time and visit our website we do have csu application workshops and we also do daily drop-in hours so you're welcome to stop by monday through friday during any one of these times listed on on this slide and we'll be able to assist you and we have a direct link to go on our drop-in at our website so feel free to drop in during any one of these times if you need help with your application or if you want further further elaboration on what are the benefits of an associate's degree for transfer we'll be able to answer any question during our drop-in times all right so good afternoon everyone my name is lucy guerrero i'm the outreach representative from cal poly pomona who services mount sac so i probably have had the pleasure of meeting many of you when we were going face to face and providing this pre-admission advising and if you haven't met me um again my name is dulce and looking forward to assisting you with future questions and again right now due to the pandemic we are actually still continuing with services remotely so again you will have access to my contact information further on on this presentation but today again i'm going to be addressing some tips as to if you are considering applying to cal poly pomona submitting a cal state apply application some of the things that you need to be mindful of when filling out the application all right so the associate degree for transfer basically as martin was indicating it is a pathway that was uh an agreement between cal states and community colleges and where you can actually earn a particular associate degree for transfer and get some added benefits that martin described um he did indicate there's a few degrees that are approved at mount sac um with cal poly pomona all right so a couple of tips that i want you to be aware of if you are going to be a student that's going to be applying through cal state apply for the fall semester of 2021 when you go to cal state applying you create your account and you start working on your extended profile your extended profile has to match the type of student that you are with the type of degree that you're going to eventually put down for so when you're looking at your degree goal it's very imperative that at this particular area that you indicate the type of uh transfer that you're going to be so of course everyone here today will be indicating that there are pursuing a first bachelor's degree and also when selecting transferring with an associate degree for transfer you need to specify if you're going to be an a student transferring from a community college with your normal associate's degree for transfer or if you're going to be a student just transferring with that adt so again make sure that you indicate um the proper one and again keep in mind that under the extended profile again this has to be a match because when you do your entry for your college and you indicate the degree that you're going to get it has to be a match with what you're recording here so again are you going to transfer that with that degree or you're going to transfer without it so be mindful of that also under educational status students have to indicate if you are going to be transferring again with that degree make sure that you specify that so when you start doing your entry for the colleges attendant you're going to have to indicate again what you put down previously on your extended has to match here so if you said that you're going to be coming in with an associate degree for transfer when you're entering the information here in terms of the degree awarded or the one that you're planning on getting it has to be a match to what you put down so if you originally said you're getting an adt here you should be able to also select an adt or mount sac and again be mindful of that if there's any uh any misinformation that you type down when you're not able to put this information you can always go back to the extended profile of the upper right of the application where you have your name there's that little arrow that you click down and you have access to your extended profile in case you need to change it and update it students here um please be mindful that cal poly pomona is not accepting applications for what we call lower division students so if you are a student that puts down on your account that you are going to have less than 60 units at the point of starting cal poly pomona when you select the institution you will not be able to select majors for cal poly pomona you will not have the option again because we are not accepting applications from lower division students so again make sure that when you are indicating the credit hours uh that you indicate that you're going to have 60 units or more so again just to be mindful of some deadlines and i know martin provided some deadlines that are crucial with the campus just be mindful that if you are applying for the fall semester 2021 i just want to reiterate that in order for you to get the benefits of the associated preferred transfer applied um it's imperative that your coursework is completed uh no later than spring of next year so make sure that that is going to be your plan make sure that on the cal state application as you're doing your entries you input all of the courses that you have today to make sure that you have copies of your transcripts i would not recommend that you try to do it from memory and also you will be able to put down the classes that you have right now in progress and anything that you're planning on taking up until the end of spring semester and again that is the last term that we're going to give you to provide you with these particular benefits of this degree and in addition to that a reminder that your school will have to verify that you are going to be completing this associate degree at the proper time so again just reiterating the importance of applying at mount sac in the proper time so that they can verify this degree so again the applications will close december the 4th due to a holiday typically we do close november 30th but this particular year again it was extended to december the 4th i would not encourage students to wait until the last minute i would highly recommend that you get your application out early in the event that there's any difficulties you have the ability to reach out to our cal state liaison your campus or even ourselves as representatives at cal poly pomona if you are a student and you submit your application and then later decide that you have a change of heart and you want to change the major maybe you'll realize that this major that you're applying for is a highly competitive impacted major and maybe you are also considering a major that's not impacted where you know that your chances are going to probably be a lot better and you want to do that change you will have until uh december the 7th to actually connect with the office of admissions and send them an email communication letting them know that you actually would want to change your actual major and again it has to be a major that's not impacted so again that's something that i wanted to address because it's not listed here you are going to be getting a communication from cal state applying indicating that it is time for you to go and upload your fall grades and they usually give you the deadline of january 31st so make sure that you are paying attention to your email communication when you get this communication make sure that you go ahead and go on your application and upload those fall grades when they become available decisions for cal poly pomona they're going to roll out in february and march so by that time you should know if you're either admitted denied or wait listed there's going to be an acceptance and an enrollment confirmation deposit that deadline is may 1st are deposited it's a 150 and it is not refinable so again make sure that you complete your requirements make sure also that you're going to be attending cal poly pomona when you put down this deposit because if you change your mind or if you uh do not complete the requirements that are actually minimum requirements for the cal state and therefore you're no longer eligible the office of admissions will be able to validate this with your final transcripts they will resend your dmissions they will pull it and unfortunately they will not return those 150 so again be mindful of that if you are a student that applies for financial aid either through the fafsa or the california dream act and your financial aid package is already secure and cleared and you are offering your financial aid award letter when you are doing your acceptance you may be eligible for a waiver and basically the system the uh broncodirect will let you know if you are eligible for that waiver meaning that you don't have to put down those 150 the institution will basically uh take care of the bill through your financial aid if there's a balance they will let you know and provide you with a deadline if there's money left over they'll go ahead and give you the leftover money they'll either deposit it or put it or provide you with a check um ap scores if you are a student that took ap examinations in high school you scored three or higher and you are considering college credit wanting to get it from cal poly pomona um the office of admissions is going to actually meet those official scores by july 15 and also your final transcripts with your spring grades by july 15 they need to come in official as well so again pay attention to your bronco direct portal that is the student portal that you will have access to to check the progress of your application and check your to-do list any item by any department will be placed there with a description and a downline and again go ahead and abide by deadlines because again that could actually cause an impact if you miss a deadline where maybe your chances now are going to cal poly pomona are going to be diminished because they may be subjected to a withdrawal from uh the application process again because you're missing a did not mine the application fee is 70 so please be mindful of that i know that right now we are living tough times and i know that our times students have been cut with their work hours or maybe have lost their jobs so again just be mindful of that the application does have embedded questions about your household income and family size make sure that you put down the proper information it's a behind-the-scenes uh requirement they are looking at federal guidelines and again all of this information is embedded in the application it will let you know once you enter that information if you actually have that waiver and if you have that waiver you will be able to wrap that application that you're typing to up to four cal states and they will not bill you the processing fee of 70 in the event that you are not eligible for the waiver again hopefully you have a plan in mind you have an idea of how many you are able to afford because you will not be able to submit the application without putting the form of payment just know that we continue with services virtually so again i am the representative with mount sac and i still continue to meet with students virtually either through zoom or phone advising our office still continues to do that as well so we meet with students monday through friday and you can certainly go on our website give us a call we do also have walk-in live sessions so if you have a quick question and you cannot wait to see me in a few days or maybe you have an appointment that's probably next week and you have a question that you would want to have addressed now make sure that you look into our live walk-in sessions we have a monday through friday and we have some available times in the mornings and in the afternoons due to the schedule of students we are aware that students are also busy taking classes and working so we try to provide that flexibility also virtual campus tours we can stand here to still have those virtual campus tours and again we would have otherwise invited you to come to campus and go face to face but again due to the pandemic and the safety of everyone we have actually transferred those of campus tours to a virtual format and you can rsvp as well through our website so a couple of events that are happening uh right now we have our explore cpp event which is our basically like our preview cal poly pomona event where you can get to come to one of these particular workshops and learn more about the academic colleges or meet with our campus partners from the office of financial aid office of admissions outreach et cetera look into this particular event as free of cost all you have to do is rsvp and again uh we are doing two weeks because we are highlighting this first week for academic colleges and next week we are going to also be highlighting the rest of the four academic colleges so again we have a total of eight academic colleges and every week again we're highlighting them and also providing opportunities for students on fridays to connect with campus partners so if you are not able to attend one of our uh explore cpp events um also look into the polly nights uh we have one left saturday november 14 and this is more like of a speedy uh event speedy workshop where we have campus partners and they are going to be providing like a 10-minute presentation to give you a quick highlight of what we have to offer and again it goes by very quickly but again you get a wealth of information from different campus partners the only difference is that at this particular event we are not going to have representation from the academic colleges if that is something that interests you and you want to learn about more about the majors have cal poly pomona and what they have to offer certainly look at the explore cpp event that we're having this week and next week and i believe that's it yeah this is my contact information uh feel free to take a picture of my phone number also our link um and like that there's ways for you to get connected and again even though we are virtual keep in mind that resources are still available for you to connect and still learn about our campus thank you for being here so we'll go ahead and transition over to our registrar's office here at cal poly pomona so camry by all means we're going to go ahead and take them all right thank you edward um good afternoon everyone my name is camry carls and i'm the lead transfer and graduation advisor here at cal poly pomona and with me is my colleague gus martinez and he and i are going to be kind of going over a little bit about who our office is as the registrar's office and just kind of how we handle the adt process on our end um it's it doesn't work the same as admissions we're not the same department as admissions i think at some schools you combine admissions and records together but while we do collaborate very closely we are two separate departments um so what does our office do primarily the registrar's office at cal poly is slid between two separate areas there's some other groups in there as well but the two primary areas are first our records and registration team which is comprised of record specialists and so they are primarily responsible for overseeing the class registration process um troubleshooting registration issues for students things like that um they're in charge of the grading process if there are grade changes made and they work closely with instructors to help um change those grades if any updates need to be made for students um if the student changes their major at any point they handle that process um if students need to leave the university for a specified amount of time due to personal reasons or financial reasons and they would submit a leave of absence which that team also handles um and then just some other general administrative functions that are regarding student records here um the second area of our department consists of the evaluation and graduation teams um so we have approximately seven transfer and graduation advisors um that primarily oversee specific colleges and work with those students from those colleges and majors and those advisors as well they process transfer credit for continuing students and perform degree progress evaluations make adjustments to students degree progress reports which is kind of like our name for a degree audit which shows you the requirements that you have completed at cal poly towards your general education and your major requirements and elective requirements um and so that document will also list the requirements that are still outstanding just so you can try to track your progress towards earning your degree um at cal poly it's a very useful tool and resource um and the graduation and or the advisors also coordinate with other department and college advisors um to track to help track the student's degree progress um as well as reviewing their file for graduation and ultimately posting the student's degrees so that kind of gives you a little bit of a scope of what our office does we also have a small team of evaluators who primarily post transfer work for current students who also transfer in updated coursework from other schools and other colleges so now we'll kind of take a look at the adt process so you all i'm assuming are working towards earning your adt at some point um and once you have obtained your adt that should be confirmed by our admissions department and before you come to cal poly um it's helpful to have that all squared away before transferring to cal poly so we can code you as an adt student properly um because with that code um that will also trigger a message on your degree progress report or your degree audit that will say to anyone looking at this a degree progress report that you are an adt student which holds us accountable to those 60 remaining units that you have left to complete your degree students are connected with advisors in their colleges to assess road maps and plan course selections based on that adt and then your transfer and graduation advisors partner with the college advisors to monitor your progress towards those 16 remaining units like i've mentioned before in order to be confirmed as an adt student at cal poly the transcript that the adt was awarded on needs to be submitted with the final transcript by that final transcript deadline which i believe is july 15th um 2021 for incoming fall students and then i'll go ahead and hand it over to gus who will go over the benefits of having an adt at cpp hello everybody i'm gus i'm the transfer graduation advisor for the college of business within the registrar's office and so we're going to be going over the benefits of an adt at tpp so the first one is students enter cal poly with junior standing continuing registration appointments are based on class standing so you do come in with the junior standing so that's the appointment that you get students enter with lower division ge certification so all your lower division ge areas are certified students have completed some lower division major requirements prerequisites satisfied for upper division courses meaning that usually with an adt you'll be taking majority of lower division courses which will include some of your major required courses um specifically because i know business um like accounting 2070 2080 those are prerequisite courses for upper division level courses so many of the times um if you have an adt you've already taken care of those um and the last one is that students graduate within 60 units so you have that guarantee some things to keep in mind um the adt is only applicable if you enter cal poly with a similar major and again i'm going to focus on business because that's what i know specifically for business you would have to come in with a degree in business administration uh in order for that to be accounted for as an adt at cal poly within that college uh if you do earn an adt in accounting you will not get the specific benefits tailored you know to those that have earned the degree in business administration it is possible to earn an aat or ast at the community college and not be admitted into an adt program at cpp so you could be getting an aaa in arts or something else but if we don't have that similar degree then you may not be getting into that program um and again aat is you know the arts degree ast science degree and the adt is the associate's degree for transfer so they're all kind of the same thing but not really but we're referring to you know a transfer degree however regardless if you are admitted to cal poly as an adt or not your lower division ge is still certified so whether you've got an adt in accounting but you're still a business administration major you won't get the business administration perks but your lower division ge areas will be certified uh i will also mention that regardless of the lower division ge areas being certified all students transfer first time need to take nine units of upper division ges so whether you're certified or not you still need to take those uh three units within those three areas uh that are over upper division and you wouldn't have those completed at a community college unless you did go to like a csu um and you took a course there that was equivalent to one of our synthesis courses years then you would probably get credit for that but other than that it would only be lower division and you are required to take those three um and they are uh synthesis courses and they're in areas b area c and area d which are your science um your arts and and your social sciences okay more things to keep in mind if you for whatever reason change your major at a second major or at a minor your adt status is removed and the 60 unit guarantee no longer applies and that's primarily because if you do any of the latter you will change the unit requirements for your degree so the 60 units cannot be guaranteed because we do recommend we do guarantee the 60 units because you've completed ideally the two at the community college and then the two at cal poly which to refer to the 120. um it does result in potential delay in graduation if you decide to change things and then the good thing about all this is that your g certification remains intact so whether you decide to change you know from business to art your lower division g certification does remain intact because you have the adt so as you are familiar with as well if you have g certification igetc or even an adt degree we do recognize that as lower division ge areas certification so we will honor those um just thank you um you can follow the hashtag cpp together you can look at some positive messages that have been coming out through the situation of the pandemic and just kind of you know get some positive outlook on things and good luck with everything and thank you for coming today all right thank you guys thank you camry so a little bit more information i know that we mentioned that the application process has already begun so it started in october first and going all the way to december 4th and you may have heard of a promise program perhaps at your community college but at cal poly pomona there is a california promise program as well uh those are those will be for students who are entering as a first-time freshman uh looking to graduate within the four years and for incoming transfer students who are looking to graduate within two years so some of the benefits for uh being part of the california promise is that you'll be able to go ahead and have your academic advising and educational plan every semester uh so that you can go ahead and um be able to remain on track and graduating within the two years uh another great great perk is that you would be receiving priority registration so in doing so if again your your your goal is to go ahead and graduate within those two years and meeting those 60 units one of the best ways that uh that could be accomplished is through the priority registration so if you are eligible for the program keep that in mind that you will be receiving uh priority registration as well and again as we mentioned you would be able to go ahead and complete your degree within two years uh for transfer students and then four years for incoming first-time freshman students uh primarily focusing on the uh transfer information so what is that eligibility and how do you maintain that eligibility for the california province as a transfer student um you will need to go ahead and apply and indicate that you re interested in the program uh if you are applying for the fall 2021 semester and it's only for that for uh students who are answering the fall term and you would be able to indicate the application indicate indicate your interest in the application of the cal state applied the other thing is that you need to go ahead and complete an associate's degree for transfer and know that this is pretty much the primary content that we are providing and completing your associate's degree from transfer but in addition uh if you're interested in the california promise you do have to have an adt uh from the current institution which in this case would be mount site and then as well we we would uh incoming students would have to be committed and graduate within two years uh in terms of maintaining your eligibility uh you would have to take 15 units each semester uh our classes are roughly three units so that will accumulate to about five classes per semester uh we are semester based so we do have a fall term in the spring term as well with summer and winter being optional uh you do have to complete 30 units by the end of the summer so that means that if perhaps you take 12 units to fall and 15 units during the spring you do have the summer where you can go ahead and complete your last three units to accomplish the 30 units for the academic year you have to remain in the same major so you can change your major uh and then you do have to earn a gpa of 2.5 or higher and receive a c minus or credit at all our courses and again as i mentioned earlier you would have to go ahead and meet with your advisor to go ahead and create uh a plan for each term that you are going so that you can go ahead and graduate within the two years uh some other important information would be that once you are admitted uh the notifications of you being eligible for the program you're gonna start hearing about it in early june so uh by all mean by all means once you receive your notifications about uh being conditionally uh admitted to cal poly pomona just be aware that if you indeed indicated your interest for the california promise you're gonna hear about it later on when roughly would be early june and as or an aat uh has to be able to go ahead and match the major at cpp so again we mentioned that i think you were a guarantee website so uh one of the ways that you can go ahead and match the major would be through there so definitely take advantage of that website there are no penalties for not continuing with the program so if you decide to change your major that will disqualify you from the program um by all means again if there are no penalties all you well that would happen is that you just have a regular registration date and you would be able to go ahead and continue at your own pace uh and then changing your major will go ahead and make you intelligible for the program as well uh some of the other things that we would like to go ahead and mention um and ways to go ahead and stay connected would be by um submitting your interest form so we are providing that information to you as well uh so that we can go ahead and uh continue following up with you with some of the workshops that we're going to be having and i'll go ahead and highlight two of those as well uh we do post these on social media so we do have our instagram where we can go ahead and um where we normally post our workshops with the information information to go ahead and um register for the workshop so please feel free to go ahead and follow us there uh
