today we're going to take this cow and remove it from its background hello and welcome to an affinity revolution tutorial my name is Ezra Andersson and today we're going to learn how to remove the background from a picture if you'd like to follow along with the same image I'll be using I've included a download link in the video description to remove the cow from its background the first thing we're going to do is select the sky to do this we'll come to the selection persona and then get our flood select tool now I'm going to click in the middle of the sky to make a selection of it the flood select tool has now selected all of the blue in the sky our selection still looks a little rough though so I'm going to press on the refine selection tool I can now paint over the areas that I want affinity to have a second look at including the fur going around the cow's head affinity has now improved our selection over all of the areas that I painted over now all we need to do is press on the checkmark to confirm our selection this was just one of the many ways that we can make selections inside affinity photo if you'd like to learn more about how to make selections in this program you can check out our complete beginners guide to affinity photo down in the video description where we spent an entire chapter on making selections we now have a quality selection of the sky but we want to have the cow selected not the sky so we're going to invert our selection by tapping once with two fingers anywhere on the picture and then selecting invert selection now that we have the cow selected we'll come up to the layer studio and apply a mask by clicking on the mask icon and then pressing new mask layer we've now masked out background we no longer need our selection so I can tap once with two fingers and press deselect now that we've removed the cow from its background we can save this image as a PNG to maintain its transparency or we can copy and paste this cow layer to any other document that we're working on another option is to give a colored background on this photo to do this we can press on the plus button and then add a new fill layer then we can click and drag this fill layer underneath the cow to change the fill layers color we can come to the color studio and select any color that we want you now know the tools that you need to remove the background from any image thanks for watching I hope you enjoyed learning how to remove the background from a picture if you'd like to learn more about affinity photo be sure to check out one of the videos over here or hit...
