What are the applications of a digital signature?
AuthenticationAlthough messages may often include information about the entity sending a message, that information may not be accurate. Digital signatures can be used to authenticate the source of messages. When ownership of a digital signature secret key is bound to a specific user, a valid signature shows that the message was sent by that user. The importance of high confidence in sender authenticity is especially obvious in a financial context. For example, suppose a bank's branch office sends instructions to the central office requesting a change in the balance of an account. If the central office is not convinced that such a message is truly sent from an authorized source, acting on such a request could be a grave mistake.IntegrityIn many scenarios, the sender and receiver of a message may have a need for confidence that the message has not been altered during transmission. Although encryption hides the contents of a message, it may be possible to change an encrypted message without understanding it. (Some encryption algorithms, known as nonmalleable ones, prevent this, but others do not.) However, if a message is digitally signed, any change in the message after signature invalidates the signature. Furthermore, there is no efficient way to modify a message and its signature to produce a new message with a valid signature, because this is still considered to be computationally infeasible by most cryptographic hash functions (see collision resistance).Non-repudiationNon-repudiation, or more specifically non-repudiation of origin, is an important aspect of digital signatures. By this property, an entity that has signed some information cannot at a later time deny having signed it. Similarly, access to the public key only does not enable a fraudulent party to fake a valid signature.

Legal professionals, what is your best example of showing that a witness was lying whilst giving their testimony?
The best way still to show that a witness or Accused (“defendant” in some jurisdictions) is lying, is to point them and the court to self contradictions in their testimony, or to give clear evidence by another party or source that rebuts the witness's or Accused's evidence. As an example; a few years ago I prosecuted an Accused who essentially forcefully hijacked the business of the complainants. In the process he committed certain offences such as theft and fraud, amongst others. His defence was that he was not the main actor, he was just taking instructions from his partner who he claimed ...

What made Prince so famous?
Prince is one of the rare artists who is more than just a star. He's more than a superstar. Prince is an empire. He is his own brand with loyal consumers that will follow him to extremes, far beyond the point where most artists would have alienated their fan base. Here are a few points on how his empire was built. Elite Musician: Any discussion about Prince should begin with the fact that his is an incredibly talented musician. Though he is widely recognized as a gifted vocalist and guitarist, he is also an accomplished pianist/keyboardist, drummer, bassist and saxophonist. He played all instruments on his first two albums, For You and Prince. He is a great composer and songwriter. And much like James Brown and other great live R&B performers, he can dance really well. Great Music: 100 million in worldwide album sales pretty much speaks for itself. Thirteen million of his sales are credited to Purple Rain, one of the greatest rock albums of all-time. In his thirty five year career, Prince has released thirty albums (twenty five studio albums and five soundtrack albums). He also released twelve EPs and several internet albums. During his prolific hot streak between 1979 and 1994, each of the fourteen albums he released were, at the minimum, certified gold, meaning that all of those albums sold at least 500,000 copies. Along with Michael Jackson and Madonna, Prince was one of the biggest pop stars in the world during the 1980s and early 1990s.Groundbreaking Sound: Prince is credited with being the pioneer of The Minneapolis Sound, a fusion of R&B, funk, pop, New Wave and progressive rock that would later incorporate elements of New Jack Swing, metal, hip hop, synth-pop and even gospel. With so many disparate genres at work, he was able to make music that truly sounded like nothing else around. This unique sound is what made albums like Purple Rain, Sign "O" the Times, Dirty Mind and 1999 outright classics. Prince was ahead of his time, and unlike much of the music of the 1980s that now sounds dated, a lot of Prince's songs, particularly from Purple Rain, have aged very well. Fashion Sense: If there were a hall of fame for fashion, Prince would surely be a first-ballot inductee. This is a man who wears high heels at almost every public appearance. Silk and velvet suits in colors like purple or red are regulars in his wardrobe. Ruffled shirts: he's got plenty of those. Do you remember when he performed at the 1991 MTV Video Music Awards in a yellow jump suit and with a matching yellow guitar? Do you recall when he turned his back to the audience halfway through the performance, revealing his exposed butt cheeks? Yeah, that happened on national television. And everyone accepted it. Fashion goes a long way in establishing a memorable image in pop culture, and Prince mastered it. He proudly sports clothes that make you look twice. Flamboyant clothes that are normally associated with women. Personalized clothes that can't be purchased in a department stores. His sense of fashion is as unique as his music. Reinvention: Prince. Prince and the Revolution. Prince and the New Power Generation. The Artist Formerly Known as Prince. The Artist. And of course, . There was a point where Prince seemed to come up with a new alias or backing group every few years. The repeated rebranding represented his artistic growth. Never one to limit himself musically, whenever Prince felt the need to reinvent himself, he would change his name and reappear with a new sound. At the start of his career, he mostly recorded tracks in his home studio, playing all instruments on his own. When he formed The Revolution, he recorded his music with a backing band, which gave a denser sonic blueprint that would later be the backbone of the Minneapolis Sound. With the New Power Generation, he was able to return to R&B and branch into hip hop. Prince falls into a select category of pop musicians - alongside David Bowie and Madonna - who has managed to make artistic transformations into a way of life. That is why those musicians enjoy such long careers. They possess the ability to adapt and renew themselves for the times. The Crew: Prince either started or assisted with the careers of many other huge acts. He created The Time, a great R&B band with a frighteningly talented lineup, including Morris Day, Monte Moir, Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis, Jesse Johnson, and Jellybean Johnson. Virtually all of them would have successful careers as solo artists, songwriters, studio musicians and producers. His collaborations with Sheila E springboarded her career. He introduced the world to Vanity 6, Madhouse and many others. With each new artist he introduced, his influence and empire expanded. Songwriting - Unsurprisingly, Prince writes all of his own material. He also wrote dozens of hit songs for others. Here are just a few hits he penned. The Bangles' "Manic Monday." Sheena Easton's "Sugar Walls," under the pseudonym Alexander Nevermind. Sinead O'Connor's "Nothing compares 2 U", staying at #1 in many jurisdictions for weeksThe Time's "Jungle Love," "Ice Cream Castles" and "The Bird," all under the pseudonym Jamie Starr. Sheila E's "Glamorous Life" and "A Love Bizarre" Vanity 6's "Nasty Girl"Tevin Campbell's - "Round and Round" MoKenStef - "He's Mine"Kid Creole and the Coconuts - "For The Sex of It," under the name Paisley Park Monie Love - "Born To BREED" With the exception of "Nasty Girl" and "Ice Cream Castles," all of these songs charted in the Billboard Top 40 Pop Charts. The other two signNowed the R&B Top 40. All of these songs, either by lyrical content or production, have a heavy Prince influence. One listen and you know it fits his signature style. This contributed to the overall sense of ubiquity that he once had. Even the songs that weren't his felt like Prince songs. Film - Prince was a visionary in that he recognized early in his career that film is an excellent medium to signNow a larger audience. He released five albums that were connected to films. Purple Rain is connected to the eponymously-titled film. He also did the music for Purple Rain's sequel, Grafitti Bridge. Parade was the soundtrack for his starring vehicle, Under The Cherry Moon. He did the music for Spike Lee's Girl 6. He also handled the eclectic soundtrack for Tim Burton's 1989 Blockbuster film Batman. He released a concert film, "Sign O the Times," which featured live versions of the songs from the album of the same title. Purple Rain and Batman were Multi-Platinum sellers. Parade went Platinum. Grafitti Bridge signNowed Gold sales. Raw Sexuality: Before his conversion to Jehovah's Witnesses, Prince wrote and performed some of the raciest, raunchiest songs in all of pop music. His 1984 song "Darling Nikki" was the inciting event for Tipper Gore to create the Parents Media Resource Center, the organization that would later usher in the use of the Parental Advisory stickers on all music with explicit content. "Darling Nikki" is No. 1 on their "Filthy Fifteen" list, the fifteen songs they felt were "most objectionable" at the time. No. 2 on their list is Sheena Easton's "Sugar Walls," which Prince wrote. Both earned notoriety for sexually explicit lyrics. That's just a rough idea of what Prince's music was all about. Beyond the music, Prince made sexuality a part of his image. It's something of a paradox: he is virile and masculine, yet somewhat androgynous. Observe the cover of his 1988 album Lovesexy, where a naked Prince suggestively stretches out like a female model in a painting. Men and women alike, he defies you to look at his nude form. In his lyrics, in his live performances, on his album covers, and any other place possible, Prince was sex. He was audacious, vulgar, titillating, and very entertaining. Controversy - Prince seems to court controversy, and it constantly keeps him in the news. When Justin Timberlake's "SexyBack" dominated the charts, Prince publicly stated that "Sexy never left," starting a rivalry between him and JT (ironic since JT was a Prince fan). He has threatened legal action against YouTube and E-Bay. His explicit music, movies, music videos and outrageous fashion sense have upset many people over the years. As a staunch Jehovah's Witness, he has become a vocal advocate for a religion that is a constant source of controversy. These are just some of the controversies that make him all the more compelling. His fans and critics always wonder what he's going to do next. It's fitting that "Controversy" was the title of one of his successful songs and albums. Bottom line, Prince is a maverick. More than just your typical recording artist, he spent decades challenging our notions of sex, music, fashion, gender roles, religion and societal norms. And in the meantime, he made lots of really good music.

I have my PPF with axis and I want to transfer it to SBI, can you help me?
Yes, PPF account can be transferred from one bank to another bank or from Post Office to Bank seamlessly.Procedure to transfer a PPF account from one Post Office or bank to another Post Office or BankTake the photocopy of an existing PPF Account Passbook. Later on, this may be helpful in case you find any discrepancies in your PPF account or showing the proof of investment for tax saving purpose.A written application for transfer needs to be made to the Post Office or Bank from where an investor wants to transfer his PPF Account. Along with this written application, you also have to fill the PPF Transfer Form (SB10-b). You have to provide your PPF Account Details, names and addresses of the branch/bank/post office where it is held, as well as the location where the transfer is sought. You will find the written application format at HERE.The next step is a verification process of signature by the existing Post Office or Bank. Once this process is finished, then the existing Post Office or Bank will arrange to send the original certified copy of the account, the account opening application, nomination form, specimen signature, etc. to bank branch address provided by the customer, along with a cheque or DD for the outstanding balance in the PPF account.Once the transfer documents along with Cheque or DD received by the new Post Office or Bank then you have to fill the fresh PPF Account Opening Form (Form A).Along with that, you have to fill the PPF Nomination Form (Form E), if you have not opted nomination earlier. In case you want to change your nominee, then fill PPF Change of Nominee Form (Form F).You have to submit fresh KYC documents once again (even though you submitted earlier or done KYC earlier with your savings account). You will receive the new passbook from the new Post Office or Bank with past credit is shown as Balance Transfer. From now onward, your account PPF account will be with the new Post Office or Bank as a CONTINUED ACCOUNT.Problems one may face during transfer-Too much delay in transfer (especially if it is from the Post Office to Bank). The Major reason will be the lethargic attitude of officials.Interest credit issue. As I said earlier, the old Post Office or Bank will credit interest up to previous 31st March. The new Post Office or Bank has to calculate the balance of credit interest from 1st April. However, in some instances they may consider from the date of the actual transfer. Suppose you transfer the account on 10th June 2015 then also new Post Office or Bank must credit interest considering the balance from 1st April 2015. However, few Post Offices or Banks, credit interest considering the balance from the date of transfer i.e. from 10th June 2015. Hence, check the balance and interest credited once the interest credited after the end of FY.In such delayed or errors, you have option to complain the Bank or file an RTI to rectify the same. For a complete post related PPF Transfer, refer my blog post “How to transfer PPF Account from Post Office or Bank to another Post Office or Bank?”.

What kind of e-mails irritate professors the most?
Many. Those rejection letters (we get plenty of those) and collaborators not honoring their commitments to common projects are particularly bad. However, I get the feeling you’re referring to student-initiated emails. I agree with Joshua Gross’ list. Other than that, here are a few types of those I find irritating.Disrespectful, juvenile, text-message-like, titleless emails. Your email must have some basic structure, including hello, your name and course, and a question/comment. At the end, say goodbye. Also, mind the style a little. I’m really not your mate. If you don’t include a title I won’t respond.Emails that ask about something that is clearly stated on the syllabus. If you do this, (i) I’ll simply email “that information is in the syllabus” and (ii) you will look careless and unengaged. Don’t be that person.Emails that are excruciatingly long. Please, don’t do this to me. I’m sure whatever you’r trying to say could be synthesized in four sentences.Emails sent from private accounts (gmail, yahoo, hotmail…). Because of legal reasons, communications with students are best kept on the university’s server. You have an institutional email. Please, use it. This applies to my own students and students from my university, particularly when submitting assignments and discussing grades and other sensitive educational issues. If you're emailing me because you want to apply to our graduate program, and you do this from a gmail account that's completely fine.Emails asking about the homework. I’m not your secretary nor your father. Don’t ask about the homework because I will not respond to your email and bring this issue to everybody’s attention next time we meet in class.Emails that are too personal and explain issues that should be presented face to face, during office hours. Life happens. I know. Leave the deep stuff for face to face conversations if possible, and only bring them up if you think I really must know. I’m happy to listen, but I’m a linguist, not a psychologist. I can tell you who to contact if you need help.Emails that come after the final grades have been posted (asking for extra credit opportunities). Once the grades have been rolled up, they’re official. No, you can’t read a book and submit a synthesis for one extra credit now. It’s December 18th!Emails from parents on behalf of their children (who are my students). One word: FERPA. In other words, “Sorry, I can’t discuss any of this with you, helicopter mother of a 22 year old”.Emails asking about something I have announced on Blackboard/CANVAS. This is quite self-explanatory. Like the message I sent on Blackboard/CANVAS.Now, having said that, I understand you are a student. You’re learning. Part of that learning includes email interactions. I won’t be offended by your email, even though it might frustrate me a bit. I’m actually glad to point you in the right direction.
