As a startup founder of three years our legal housekeeping is a bit of mess, how can I best setup a system to organize and track
As a startup founder of three years myself, I can relate to how legal housekeeping can be messy. Once a year, I have our own lawyers go through and do an audit of all of our legal paperwork (which costs a couple thousand dollars to be extremely thorough, but it’s worth it). Luckily, there are now many ways to easily manage and track all of your legal, financial, and HR documents via third-party sites that specialize in these management proceedings. I wrote a blog post about this awhile back titled “5 Ways to Save Time Dealing With Documents” which highlights certain sites that can be very beneficial depending on what paperwork you’d like to track or manage. They are as follows:1. GroupDocsGroupDocs is a new, comprehensive online service for document creation and management. It has multiple features, including a viewer for reading documents in your browser, an electronic signature service, an online document converter, a document assembly service, a feature for comparing different versions of a document, and an annotation feature. An individual plan is $10 per month for limited storage and 500 documents, while a group plan for up to 9 people is $19 per user per month. Based on the number of features and pricing, GroupDoc is a good-value purchase for a small business. As you’ll see below, GroupDocs can be cheaper than a service that offers only one such feature.2. signNowWhen you’re closing a deal and need to get documents signed, the last thing you need is a slow turnaround due to fax machine problems or the postal service. The solution is to use an electronic signature service such as signNow, which is one of the most popular e-signature companies in the world. This service allows you to email your documents to the person whose signature you need. Next, the recipient undergoes a simply e-signing process, and then signNow alerts you when the process is completed. Finally, signNow electronically stores the documents, which are accessible at any time. As a result, you can easily track the progress of the signature process and create an audit trail of your documents. The “Professional” plan is recommended for sole proprietors and freelancers, and costs $180 per year ($15 per month) for up to 50 requested signatures per month. The “Workgroup” plan is geared towards teams and businesses, and it costs $240 per user per year ($20 per month per user), for unlimited requested signatures.3. signNowsignNow is another e-signature service. Similar to signNow, signNow allows you to upload a PDF file, MS Word file or web application document. Next, you can edit the document, such as by adding initials boxes or tabs, and then email them out for signatures. Once recipients e-sign the document, signNow notifies you and archives the document. signNow offers low rates for these services: a 1-person annual plan with unlimited document sending costs $11 per month. An annual plan for 10 senders with unlimited document sending costs only $39 per month.4. ExariExari is a document assembly and contract management service that assists in automating high-volume business documents, such as sales agreements or NDAs. First, the document assembly service allows authors to create automated document templates. No technical knowledge is required; most authors are business analysts and lawyers. Authors have a variety of options for customizing documents, such as fill-in-the-blank fields, optional clauses, and dynamic updating of topic headings. They also can add questions that the end user must answer. Once you send out the document, the user answers the questionnaire, and Exari uses that data to customize the document. Next, the contract management feature allows you to store and track both the templates and the signed documents. Pricing is based on the size and scope of your planned implementation, so visit their website for more information.5. FillanyPDFIt’s a hassle having to print out PDF forms in order to complete them. Fortunately, FillanyPDF is a service that allows you to edit, fill out and send any PDFs, while entirely online. This “Fill & Sign” plan costs $5 per month, or $50 per year. If you subscribe to the “Professional” plan, you can also create fillable PDFs using your own documents. With this service, any PDF, JPG or GIF file becomes fillable when you upload it to the site. You can modify a form using white-out, redaction and drawing tools. Then, you can email a link to your users, who can fill out and e-sign your form on the website. FillanyPDF also allows you to track who filled out your forms, and no downloads are necessary to access these services. The “Professional” plan costs $49 per month, or $490 per year.Switching firms can be a hassle. As a former startup attorney, I have a bit of advice about finding the right attorney for your business: it’s best to focus on the specific attorney you’ll be working with. He or she should have a solid understanding of the ins and outs of your business industry, a deep knowledge of the legal issues your startup may face, and previous work experience with startups to ensure a quality and efficient work product. This is absolutely key when matching our startup clients at UpCounsel to attorneys on our platform who can perform their legal work and hash out their legal projects in a timely manner. We also allow clients to store any and all of their legal documents directly on UpCounsel so they don’t have to go searching in alternative places for the correct paperwork. It’s proven to be a free and lightweight way to store legal documents that our clients love. Here's what it looks like:As I’ve mentioned, it’s more important to find the right attorney as opposed to the right law firm. And seeing as you’re a startup, our own startup clients typically save an average of 50-60% on their legal work, since the attorneys don't include overhead fees (a.k.a. the fees included for doing business with the firm itself) in their invoices.Hope this gives you a deeper look into what other sites and services are out there. If you have any questions or would like more information on how best to handle your legal housekeeping/ attorney matters, feel free to signNow out to me directly. As a former startup attorney at Latham & Watkins, I’d be happy to give you some guidance.

What are some lesser known Gmail tips?
Perhaps not "lesser known", but I've been using keyboard shortcuts for years under "Settings": This probably comes from my vim background, but inside gmail, I almost never use the mouse. Instead:While viewing a list of threads (i.e. Inbox, All Mail, Drafts, search results, etc.):c to compose a new mailj and k to move the cursor down and upx to select/deselect the current thread that's pointed to by the cursore to archive all threads that have been selected [Enter] to go into the thread pointed to by the cursor"g i" to go to my Inbox"g a" to go to All Mail"g d" to go to DraftsWhile inside a thread:n and p to browse down and up messages inside a thread (move the cursor up and down)a to reply all (or r to reply individually, but that's rare) to the message currently pointed to by the cursorf to forward the message that's pointed to by the cursoru to go back to the previous thread list view, which could be your Inbox, All Mail, Drafts, etc. This is the same as the back button: s to toggle through the stars on the message currently pointed to by the cursorIn case you're wondering, the "cursor" is the very thin vertical blue line visible to the left of the third thread in this picture:Other useful shortcuts:/ to make the search bar active"* u" to select all unread emails"* n" to deselect all emailsShift+i to mark all selected emails as readShift+u to mark all selected emails as unreadWhile inside a thread, Shift+u will bring you back to the previous thread list view and marking the current thread as unread. I do this a lot to keep important threads at the top of my inbox. And that's basically all I ever do in gmail. It can be painful to learn at first, but just start with the very basics: j, k, and [Enter] to browse through your inbox. Within a month or two, you'll be zipping through your inbox like Usain Bolt through the 200m.Full list: http://support.google.com/mail/b...Edit: David Craige mentioned a very useful Google Labs add-on under "Settings --> Labs": a [Send & Archive] buttonAnd another useful add-on:

Why do youngsters look down upon Hindustani classical music and find it boring?
This question is quite old, yet I feel I can contribute to it a bit.TL;DR: Many people these days have acquired Western tastes. Western music makes use of harmony most of the time, while Indian music never does so. It is for this reason that I feel ICM is found boring by some people who have a Western ear.I’m a youngster (16 y/o, so yeah). I have a relatively wide taste in music, including Western Classical, metal, rock, bluegrass, jazz and some ambient stuff. I’ve developed and acquired some of these tastes myself (ambient and jazz) but others are genres that have come naturally to me. WCM and metal would be those.I find Indian classical music boring, especially the vocals. Like, get up and leave the room kind of boring. Yet I force myself to sit there and listen, and glean some information, like the time signature of the taal, or how the raga is similar to some scale or some mode. But if you expect me to enjoy it, well, your expectations are in for a surprise. Some call ICM horizontal music, that is, just one thing is playing at a time. (Almost) all Western genres of music are instead, vertical, as in many voices are playing at once; some independent melodies and others as harmonic accompaniments. This is what sets ICM apart. And it’s also what bores me out when I listen to it.And then I was exposed to ICM since I was little, but I never really liked it. So those of you who say it requires early exposition may be right in generic cases.Thing is, I have a Western ear. For me, harmony is way more important in music than just monophony (which is what ICM is all about). It’s really, really hard to find Indian classical music that uses counterpoint, for example. I don’t think I ever will. Whereas Western genres are full of counterpoint and harmony. (Man, even Jazz soloing is done over a chord progression.)And I don’t think it’s right to dismiss Western music, as others did. It can get quite as intricate as Indian Classical music at times (Tool comes to mind) and WCM is way more intricate already (Bach’s Well Tempered Clavier and other fugues). My tastes have always tended to shift toward more polyphonic and harmonic forms/styles of music and right now I’m happy with many of the Western genres that I listen to. I’m sure there are many others like me out there; some of whom you are referring to.All this does not mean I’m looking down upon Indian classical music. I have deep respect for it, for all the technical aspects of it. But that’s where it ends. Beautiful music is just not Hindustani Classical, beautiful music is Bach’s Chaconne, or Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata, or Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E minor.I feel many people these days have acquired a Western ear; maybe that is why so many people find ICM boring, since it has very less to offer in terms of harmony. Then there are some idiots who go all condescending on ICM to show off; I’m not talking about them. Well, they’re idiots, right?Edit: Some people talk here about ICM being an acquired taste. I agree with this. I'll have to put in several hours of listening to understand Hindustani vocals properly. But IMHO, it isn't rewarding, as I've never loved to listen to ICM. I also received a comment on how ICM has to be first learnt before it can be appreciated. Now this is like a marshmallow experiment gone wrong. Why should I even bother if you offer me a marshmallow (along with some conditions) while I already have an effin' storehouse full of those things?¯\_(ツ)_/¯

What are the best Gmail tips to save time?
Gmail offers many tools for us organize our inbox, such as folders, labels, and even tabs, which in turn saves time when we want to look for some particular mails.Labels are a simple way to categorize our messages. For eg : When a mail comes from friends we can label them as friends and if a mail comes from work, we can label them as work. So next time if we want to check those mails, we dont have to look through our entire inbox. We can just click on the respective labels they belong to. And from there the mail we want to look into.Steps to create and tag mails with LabelsGo to Create new label option on your left menu bar. (You may have to click on More to show this button)Then enter the name of the label you want to create. Then click on create. Then go to the mail you want to add the label toClick on the label button and choose the label you want to applyOn your left menu bar you will see a new category has come up having the label name you just created. When you click on it, it will show the mails to which the label is added to

What is the process to get a trademark certificate and a brand authorization letter for a brand in India? Also what are the char
Trying to make lawyers unemployed mate? Disclaimer - This will be a boring answer, read it at your own peril.Let me start with the substantive law so that those of you who have chosen to take the pains of reading this might as well gain something out of it. So even before you apply for registration make sure that your mark should not be Generic or Descriptive (devoid of any distinctive character) - Like you can't have a mark 'Mango' for selling mangoes because if you are provided with such a mark, no other seller will be able to sell mangoes without infringing upon your mark. You can, however, have Banana as a mark for furniture. Similarly, you can't have 'Wooden Furniture' or 'Good Wooden Furniture' or 'Best Wooden Furniture' etc as a mark for goods such as wooden chairs and tables. There should be something distinctive about your mark. One good way to go about it is to either create a new word such as 'GoWoFo' (made from taking the first two alphabets of 'Good Wooden Furniture'') or arbitrary affixation of an existing word irrelevant to your class. Or the way act puts it, It should not be "exclusively of marks or indications which may serve in trade to designate the kind, quality, quantity, intended purpose, values, geographical origin or the time of production f the goods or rendering of the service or other characteristics of the goods or service"Similar to an existing mark - Your mark should not be similar to an existing mark. In order to do so head over here and search for your mark in all class in which you want to register your mark. Eg - You want to register Banana for furniture. Search for Banana and all its variant such as 'Banaaana', 'Bannana' , 'Banaaanaaa' and so on under class 20. Also, do a google search and look around in your locality or as many places as possible to make sure that no one is using the same or similar mark for the same class. It doesn't matter if the mark you have chosen is not registered but is being used by someone in the course of business it will create problems later on so be creative about it.Similar to a Well-Known Mark - Well-known mark in plain words are marks so famous that you ought to know them like Google, Samsung, Ford, Pepsi etc. Whether your mark falls in the same category or not it should not be similar to a well-known mark.Should not comprises or comprises of any matter likely to hurt the religious susceptibilities of any class of section of the citizens of India Should not contain scandalous or obscene matterThere is a lot more to it, but in your case, this should more or less keep you covered. I do not know much about the procedure myself but have some idea about it. Don't fret mate I will help you to the extent possible. First of all, you need to decide whether you want to go for E-registration or offline registration. E-registration will need Class III certificate which will set you back by Rs 3000-4000 so until and unless you have some sort of time constraint or intend to do multiple registrations, it doesn't make sense to buy one. Anyways, if you do buy one go here and start the registration process. If you go for offline registration you will need to apply to the Trademark registry directly, the address of which can be found here. (Call them for clarifications, hard as you may find it to believe, this always works. More often than not, you will find that government employees are nice people as long as you can be courteous and nice to them.) Since it is very much likely that a registry may not be in your state, the relevant registry for your state will be as below:-"MUMBAI : The State of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Goa AHMEDABAD : The State of Gujarat and Rajasthan and Union Territories of Daman, Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli. KOLKATA: The State of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Orissa, West Bengal, Manipur, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Tripura, Jharkhand and Union Territories of Nagaland, Andaman & Nicobar Islands. NEW DELHI: The state of Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Delhi and Union Territories of Chandigarh CHENNAI: The state of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Kerala, Tamilnadu, Karnataka and Union Territories of Pondicherry and Lakshadweep Island"You will need to file a TM-1 form if you need to register goods and/or services falling in one class, TM-51 for goods and/or services falling in different classes. More details with regard to forms can be found here. The concept of class is interesting, you will need to register the trademark for each category you intend to use your product in. For example, if you intend to use your trademark for food products which consist of both processed foods and confectionery, you will need to make registration in class 29 and 30. You will face trouble in the future if you do not register in one of the classes in which your product falls. To determine under what category your product falls, head over here. Don't unnecessarily register your mark in every class possible, not only it's expensive but if you fail to use your mark in the course of trade for that category within the stipulated period (One year I think) you will lose protection in that category. This is to ensure that people don't hoard trademarks for no reason but to resell them to someone later at a profit. So there you go mate, that should you more or less be cover most of the process. Do tell here if you manage to get it successfully registered. Shoot here if you have any more queries. PS - I will be putting the standard legal disclaimer here but I feel obligated to remind you that you should not put too much faith on imbecile law students that you come across on the internet.Edit 1 - Brand Authorization Letter - From what I got from Google :-"If you're the brand owner/private lableler, you will need to provide a letter on your company letterhead granting yourself permission to use the brand. I know that sounds sort of counter-intuitive, but that's the way it works." (Source)2. Sample of Brand Authorization Letter (Publish it on your own letterhead) (Source)We, (manufacturer). grant “X distributor" Brand Authority for all “Brand X" products, for the purposes of listing our products on Amazon and contributing product data to the Amazon library.(name)Presidentcompany nameAddressXXXPhoneSignature _________________Date _________________

How are the girls' hostel facilities at VIT?
I'd lived in around 6 boardings, hostels and PG accommodations by the time I joined VIT. I was mind-blown by the privileges. I lived in a 4 bed non-AC room (I have sinusitis and AC with less moisture in the air gives me a lot of discomfort) and it was incredible! You are given one table, a chair, a night light, a plug point, a pair of shelves and a whole wardrobe. There are two fans and to mirrors in the room. The windows are huge and they provide good air circulation if the door is left slightly ajar. You are provided with space to dry your clothes outside the room. There are washing stones and washing machines available for laundry. There is also laundry service which costs around Rs 150 a month (for extra lazy people). There is filtered water (chilled and normal) available always. There are water heaters provided on some floors for hot drinking water. They will be available either on your floor, or one floor above or below you. There are water heaters in the bathroom areas too on every floor. Both Indian and European toilets are available. Two elevators are present, one for odd floors and the other for even floors. The room is swept and mopped every day.Convenience stores(2), restaurants (2), a salon and a nescafe are present in the hostel campus. A pool, indoor gyms(AC and non AC) and indoor tennis courts are present. Besides these, a badminton court and a basketball court are also available outdoors.Inside, in the F - block courtyard, there are to courts to play. The facilities available are good and even the rules aren't that bad. Hope you have a good stay!

How do I block all posters from the Quora Partner Program? At this point, about a quarter of my feed is simply pattern-generated
A2A: If you find out, please tell the rest of us. As far as I know, it’s impossible to block QPP members en masse within the machinery of Quora, and I don’t know of any external browser-scripting tool that makes it easy to detect them or easy to block them. (And I don’t have time to write one myself.)Of course, Quora management does nothing to make this easy, and have actually made some changes in the site to make it harder to identify the author of a question and to see all of his/her questions. They have (for whatever perverse reason) determined that the QPP is good for their business, even if it drives away many of their best answer-writers and even some of their non-spamming question writers. They are actually paying people to spam the rest of their community — apparently just at the pocket-change level, but it seems to be effective.I think that if someone were to open up a site similar to the old Quora, the current one would be empty within days, leaving behind only the idiots and the ask-holes. (Maybe that’s still a profitable business — there seem to be an awful lot of those people, thought I can’t believe that the ones writing question-spam for pocket change are going to spend much money with their advertisers.)My current strategy is that when when a truly idiotic question shows up in my notifications as an “Ask to Answer”, and sometimes just in my feed, I go to the profile of the person posting the question. Usually this requires opening the question’s “View Stats and Log” window and scrolling to the bottom to find who posted the question originally. Then I look for the signature of a QPP spammer (or perhaps someone who just does question-spamming for fun). Signs include the following:Hundreds or thousands of questions, with many posted on the same day or only minutes apart. Those are not sincere questions.Look at some of the questions and see if almost all of them are idiotic. There are many forms of “idiotic” — simple arithmetic or algebra problems, “What is a city with X in the name?”, “What is the best {Beatles, Stones, Beach Boys…} song?”. Some are clearly generated by simple scripts and templates. If a question is outrageous or contains a mistake others will want to correct, it is click-bait and is not sincere — or if it is sincere, to hell with it anyway.Look on “Edits” which (as of now) shows all the “Question Added” actions by this person, mixed in with a lot of other stuff, so it’s hard to navigate. If a question-added appears here but not in the “questions” list of that person, they have deliberately turned off following of their own question to make it less obvious that they are spamming. These are not sincere questions, and if there are more than a few of them, it is certainly a QPP person. When I find that someone is a question-spammer (whether QPP or not), I block them and (unless they have some interesting answers to go along with the spam), I mute them as well. However, this is mostly just a form of protest and to make me feel good — I haven’t noticed any signNow reduction in idiotic questions. So many ask-holes, so little time.Sometimes, in addition to blocking/muting these people I report them for violating Quora’s question policy, but I have no reason to believe that any action is ever taken against them, or that they even know they were reported. After all, the people who might enforce the Quora question policy are the same ones who are paying people to abuse it.
