FAQs
- What industries must use electronic signature software?Any industry involving a large amount of paperwork make use electronic signatures. In other words, all industries make use of electronic signatures because all of them have piles of paperwork to handle. Some examples of such industries include financial, life science, healthcare and pharmaceutical industries.Industries such as the pharmaceutical industry, have a number of licenses and other paperwork that they have to handle and keep track of. It can be a tedious task to perform such cumbersome paper processes. Therefore, e-signatures can facilitate an organisation in keeping a track of all this paperwork, by signing electronically.Healthcare industries usually involve time-sensitive documents, which need to be urgently completed. But, it can take days in case of the traditional wet ink paper signatures for the documents to signNow the signer and back, if the parties are geographically scattered. But with electronic signatures, that is not the case. Geographical barriers do not play a role. Documents which earlier needed days to be completed, can now be signed and sent back within minutes, in the click of a button. Furthermore, it takes a long time to bring assets under management. The time taken by the signing process, if wet ink paper signatures are used, may even further delay the process. But by using electronic signatures, the whole process can speed up.Apart from these, there are many paper prone industries which require huge amount of paperwork and with the use of electronic signatures they can make their everyday processes smoother and more efficient.
- What can Estonia give to the world? What Estonia can give to the world is the experience of building digital society.Being a fairly small country (population of 1.3 mln in 2013), Estonia has an advantage of introducing such innovations that would be much more difficult to carry out in larger countries. Most remarkable of those are related to IT services such as e-government. Here is a brief outline of current achievements.Every citizen has an ID card, which is in essence a certificate, a public-private key pair. ID-card can be used to sign documents. Such digital signature has the same legal power as a handwritten signature. This means that you do not have go anywhere to give your signature - you can do it online. Also, using the ID-card one can authenticate on all public service websites as well as in the internet banks, online shops, etc. ID-card makes electronic voting possible. An alternative to ID card is Mobile-ID, which allows secure authentication (just like ID-card) using your own mobile phone with a special SIM-card. This service is supported by all mobile operators. All public services are integrated among each other (this is called X-Road). For example, I pay my taxes online. I click a link in the internet bank to send my home loan information to the tax system. The tax system will take some additional information on the estate I have from land and estate registry. I am presented a final calculation of tax returns that I only have to confirm (digitally). All this takes about 5 minutes. By the way, this year they have a mobile app for this.In addition, you can: register a company in 20 minutes, buy prescripted medicine without any papers, pay for parking using a mobile app, etc. Refer to e-Estonia | The Digital Society for more details. The trick is that such solutions do not require big-data technologies in Estonia - a good relational database will do. This, however, does not diminish the work of all the developers. I'm just saying that an information system with the same functionality would be much more expensive in, say, USA or China. As for areas that do not relate to IT directly, check out the recent article: Estonia launches first national electric car charging network
- What specific task(s) could a lawyer (or legal professional, e.g. paralegal) get done using mobile technology available today orLawyers can run their entire practices using mobile technology. There is nothing that cannot be done from out of the office. What is required?I will tell you what I use for my consulting business as opposed to for my law firm. But the concepts are the same.1. Laptop and/or tablet. Generally a full laptop will be needed to do most work. I have both.2. SECURE Internet connection. I bring mine with me. I do not trust public networks.3. SECURE cloud based practice management system in which is contained every piece of data for every single client. Also allows for time tracking and billing. I use Clio4. If 3 does not include documents, a separate SECURE document storage and management system. I use SpiderOak5. Smart Phone with calendar and contacts that sync with the same data from the office. Android phone.6. Tracking and ability to wipe any mobile device that might be lost or stolen. Various products.7. Appropriate software, I use Office 365. Gives me the full Office Suite along with what I need to sync everything to everything else.8. If a litigator, potentially specialized litigation and presentation software. Powerpoint and AppleTV9. PDF creation software with signing ability, signNow or similar10. Lexis or Westlaw My law firm has Lexis. Specific tasks that lawyers can perform with the setup I gave you?1. Communicating with clients and other lawyers2. Drafting and editing documents3. Reviewing documents4. Filing documents with the court5. Conference calls by video or audio6. Marketing - blog posts, social media, answering questions on sites such as this7. Tracking time8. Creating bills9. Sending bills10. Checking and entering calendar information11. Legal researchAnything I can do inside my office, I can do outside my office. Except, of course, sit in a conference room with my co-workers. I also don't have a portable printer, but I use Acrobat and other tools that allow for electronic signatures on my iPad or touch screen laptop as well as marking up documents electronically.
- I have received ITR-V. Can it be verified online or I have to send it by post only?Electronic verification of ITRThe IT department has suggested two methods of verifying the ITR electronically. For electronic verification, you need to login to incometaxindiae-filing.gov.in and navigate to 'E-Verify Return' option of the main menu.i. The first method is through linking your Aadhar Card with your PAN number and thereafter generating OTP (one time password) which gets delivered at your registered mobile number and thereafter you will have to enter this OTP to validate your e-filing.ii. The second method is through generating electronic verification code (EVC) which gets delivered at registered mobile number or email ID. This electronic verification code is then used to verify your ITR. The main drawback of the second method is that it cannot be used by those taxpayers who are seeking any ITR or if they have total income of more than Rs 5 lakh.Dispatching ITR-V to CPC, BangaloreITR-V stands for ‘Income Tax Return–Verification’ Form. It is a one page document. ITR-V is received when you e-file your income tax return without using a digital signature. It is received from the Income Tax Department to your registered email ID. Since the digital signature is not present so Income Tax Department needs to verify your tax return. On receipt of Form ITR-V, you need to sign the copy of the form with ‘blue ink’ and post it to the Income Tax Department CPC, Bangalore. This is an important step to complete the filing process.Follow the below mentioned steps carefully to complete your e-filing process:Step 1: Dark black ink should be used to print ITR-V form. It must be legible to eyes.Step 2: Sign within the box provided for it so that bar code and numbers below it are clearly visible.Step 3: Do not staple the form. The portion of the ITR-V containing bar code should not be folded.Step 4: Use a white A4 size envelope to enclose the form.Step 5: Send the envelope to CPC Bangalore via speed post or ordinary post within 120 days of filing return. You cannot courier it.Step 6: You do not need to send any supporting documents along with the ITR-V. Just the one page signed ITR-V. The envelope should be send to Income Tax Department CPC Post Box No.1, Electronic City Post Office, Bangalore-560100, Karnataka.Step 7: Once CPC Bangalore receives your ITR-V, it will send you an email acknowledgement. That’s it! You have done it! Remember not to miss the deadline of 120 days mentioned above otherwise your e-filed tax return will be considered invalid. In that case, you will be required to file your tax return again.Be Peaceful !!!
- What are some possible applications for IoT?The possible applications of IoT actually depend on the industry. Here are my favourites:RETAILIt may not be the first industry that comes to mind when thinking of successful IoT applications. In reality, however, connected devices have been used by major store chains and retailers for a while now - even though some IoT examples used in the industry are not exactly retail-specific. What can IoT help with, exactly? In-store optimisation (monitoring traffic and analyzing customer behaviour in real-time), as well as warehouse automation (keeping an eye on the product inventory, which is driven by shopping demand).TRANSPORTATIONIt may not seem like it at first, but transportation is the second industry in terms of investments in IoT. Actually, it is expected to spend $40 billion annually on IoT by 2020. That shouldn’t be surprising given that more and more delivery and public transportation vehicles are being equipped with IoT sensors, which are monitoring their parameters and alerting the owners whenever there’s any repair needed. Apart from vehicle health monitoring, cost reduction is also possible (through optimising fuel consumption and vehicle maintenance costs, just to name a few).REAL ESTATEIoT is likely to change the manner of constructing and managing properties in a few years. Developers have already become more aware of the fact that applying IoT devices in commercial buildings can not only reduce costs but improve conditions for tenants at the same time. Not to mention the ability to keep an eye on the equipment and act fast when there’s any maintenance work needed. How come? Smart buildings can reduce maintenance costs and improve conditions for tenants, whereas workspace optimisation (understanding how workspace is being used, more precisely) is able to improve the comfort and productivity of employees.HEALTHCAREConnected devices within the healthcare industry mean better patient experience and increased operational efficiency for hospitals, which is why some of the facilities around the world have already been taking advantage of them. As a matter of fact, there are many successful examples of IoT in healthcare. Especially when it comes to remote health monitoring – checking and on patients around-the-clock, and medical equipment maintenance – controlling the condition and location of medical equipmentCheck out the article by Future Mind if you’re looking for more examples of IoT applications. Hope you’ll find it useful!

- What is the one thing you wish (people in) India learned from foreign countries?Unnecessarily Blowing Horn.Recently, I visited Seoul (South Korea) for about two months. During my stay, I visited several places including some of the busiest places like Seoul Station and Seoul Tower but at none of the locations, I heard a single sound of horn. Can you Imagine ?During those two months, I guess, only twice, once when the ambulance passed in front of me and secondly, I heard the horn (while returning to home from the Office) when a cab was in a hurry and he was continuously blowing horn (coincidentally that was the last day of my stay in Seoul) ,everyone was staring at that vehicle as if the vehicle is being used for some crime.I think people in our country should learn to make the effective use of a horn. This reminds me of last summer, I was travelling from Noida Sector 18 to Noida Sector 26 in a cycle-rickshaw which was being pulled by a man of age around 60. I saw a car behind me which was continuously blowing its horn and the old man was trying his best to give the car some space for passage. The temperature was around 45 degrees Celsius that day.Now imagine the plight of the old man who is pulling a rickshaw in 45 degrees, and on the other hand, imagine the person who is sitting inside an AC car.Now tell me, wouldn’t the rickshaw puller want to signNow the destination as early as possible so that he could get some shade and rest? Or will continuously blowing the horn will make all traffic disappear for the car owner?I really felt bad for that old man that day. We use the horn unnecessarily which is resulting in an increase in noise pollution in India.
