What are some of the subtle ways Queen Elizabeth shows her disapproval or dislike of a person? She is known to be polite under a
During social occasions, it is customary for all those due to meet Her Majesty to form a line. A Royal aide, who stands just behind Her Majesty, tells her the name of the person she is meeting and what they do. Her Majesty always begins every conversation. The Queen did not attend school, neither did her younger sister, Princess Margaret. Both were taught at home by tutors and/or a governess/nanny. From all accounts, the sisters’ education was not particularly comprehensive. As a result, Her Majesty has had to teach herself about geography, history and politics, to name just a few subjects. Conversations therefore tend to be very brief and very general. She has several ‘codes’ for her staff, while meeting and greeting. Having initiated a conversation, once she has heard enough, she moves her ever-present handbag from one arm to the other. Her Royal aides will then discreetly move her along the line to the next person.During the Government of Tony Blair, Her Majesty is said to have disliked both Blair and his wife, Cherie Booth, a prominent barrister. Both Blairs were republican. While Tony Blair was always respectful to the Queen (as Prime Minister he met her once a week, every week, for their private and confidential audiences, during which both are free to question the other on pressing issues), Cherie pointedly refused to curtsy to the Queen, even when she was a house guest of the Queen. QEII meets her PMs wherever she is. If she is in Sandringham, the PM sees her there, and the same applies to Balmoral. Cherie was standoffish and incredibly rude. Her Majesty ignored her, as did the rest of her family. When Blair was first elected PM in 1997, he met Princess Anne. Having done the introductions, Blair reportedly told the Princess ‘Please, call me Tony’, to which Anne replied ‘I think we’ll stick with Mr. Blair’.On one of Blair’s early weekly audiences, he walked into the Queen’s drawing room and was mortified when his mobile phone began to ring. According to a footman, Her Majesty is reported to have smiled, and said ‘Oh dear. I do hope it wasn’t anyone important’. Touché!Anyone displaying signs of rudeness (speaking before the Queen, attempting to eat before the Queen, attempting to continue to eat once HM is done eating etc) will be ignored and never invited to return. Her Majesty does not enter into heated debates. Her Majesty is said to have clashed several times with another of her Prime Ministers - Margaret Thatcher. One morning, Her Majesty sent a message to Downing Street, saying that she wished to speak to Mrs. Thatcher immediately. A short while later, she was informed that Mrs. Thatcher was too busy to attend, but would see her later. Furious, Her Majesty summoned Thatcher to the Palace for an urgent audience (possibly concerning The Falkland Islands), and made her stand for the duration of the meeting. When the Queen ‘asks’ to see you, it isn’t a request at all.During a photo shoot with American photographer Annie Leibovitz, Her Majesty wore the gorgeous robes of The Knight of The Garter (pictures below). As Her Majesty posed for the camera, Leibovitz asked if the Queen would remove her tiara, as she thought it ‘too showy’. Her Majesty looked at her in disbelief and said ‘Too showy? And this isn’t?’ (pointing to her incredible KOTG robes). The tiara stayed. Her Majesty in Knight of The Garter regalia:Her Majesty, as photographed by Annie Leibovitz:

What are the factors that make World of Warcraft so engaging?
If i had to single out a single trait, it would be variety. Put simply, there is so much to do, even the most hardcore players could devote ungodly amounts of time to the game, and still not "finish". The objectives are well laid out, interrelated, and "scaffolded" in a way that each player's accomplishment seamlessly builds on the growing mountain of previous achievements, creating a self sustaining network effect for the player. For players who are naturally PVE centric, leveling leads to instance farming leads to heroic instances, which leads to badge farming, which leads to raiding. Raiding itself is "tiered" (during the WotLK expansion, for example, there were 4 distinct tiers of raiding content), and the tiers overlap through normal/heroic dificulty modes. The best of the best compete for "world first" kills, while the unwashed PVE masses are content to simply see the content, and slowly upgrade their gear, week after week. For players who are more PVP centric, ganking and random world PVP leads to battlegrounds, which lead to arena teams, which lead to full rated, seasonal competition with sought after prizes including mounts and prestigious titles. The best of best PVPers eventually compete, literally, on a world stage for signNow cash prizes. The unwashed PVP masses are content to languish in the middle of the arena ladders, grind through battlegrounds, or battle it out through world pvp events (Tol Borad in the latest expansion, wintergrasp in wrath, various zone events in TBC, and epic world-PVP battles in southshore/hillsbrad in vanilla).Layered on top of these primary game experiences are a raft of secondary meta-games. The "professions" component is made up of about 10 gathering and crafting professions. Combine these with the auction house, and you have a living, breathing, vibrant economy that many players find just as satisfying as PVP or PVE.All of this is wrapped in an in-game achievement tracking system, which lets players actually measure their engagement, and monitor their growth in the game. When someone says they are bored of WoW, I ask them:Have you completed all of the hard mode PVE content?Have you achieved Gladiator status in PVP?Have you maxed out all the professions? How rich is your character?Have you hit 10k achievement points?Do you have "loremaster"? (in-game achievement for completing a tremendous amount of quests)Even once someone has completed all of this.... they can then spin up a new character, of a different role (i.e, tank, healer, dps, ranged, etc), and do it all over again for a completely new experience.

How long did it take Quora to signNow 100 users?
Quora as we know it was founded in June 2009, 8 years ago. But that is as we know it.The first sightings of the domain http://www.quora.com was March 2001. Quora was then owned by a market research firm. I dont know if the domain was originally for Adam. But seeing as Adam was only 16 at the time, I doubt he had anything to do with a market research firm. The domain was probably parked by June 2007. I’m guessing that was when It was purchased or anytime after thatWork on the site probably began in June 2009, Wikipedia lists this as the date it was founded, but this was just the day they probably began installing frameworks and stuff as it would be exactly 1 year later before the general public can sign up.This is probably them installing the Pylon framework(Developing on a live server?? HARDCORE!!!)By this time there were no users at all, but in the months to come during their setup, they would advertise for job openings, put the webapp in beta for a while before any real signups can begin. This is August of the same year, 2009.This is the 24th of September that same year, 2009.Now if you notice from the last picture, you can see a form to enter your email if you are interested. So we could begin to count their users from this instant, but i don’t know a public method of determining how many users actually signed up for the soon to be launched service.By December 2009, they make it obvious that it is still in beta stage and currently invite only. So I’m guessing they should have gotten to a hundred users by now, or at least they should have invited over hundred users to try out the service. It stays this way with back and forth variations till June 18, 2010.By June 22, 2010, the completed and publicly available Quora is launched.I’m 100% sure it wont take 24 hours to get 100 signups after the completed site was launched seeing that some mild niche buzz had already been created in the previous months. So if you mean how long it took them not counting beta testers and invites then I would say 12 months. If you wanna count beta testers, then 3 months counting from the day they started installing Pylons. But in the odd circumstance that you mean when the word Quora first appeared on the net as a domain, then its 9 freaking years.I hope you all enjoyed going back in time. By the way, this may be hugely erroneous, but I’m hoping you get the point. I didn’t have much to base my research on other than the Internet Wayback machine, which is awesome by the way. You can check it out here and check any website’s history.Wayback Machine

What are the best examples of subtlety in movies?
I love the GodFather trilogy. Will skip the “Keep your friends close and your enemies closer”, and other well-known lines and scenes from this classic .It has all these subtle , downplayed moments that are so ordinary and yet crucial to the central plot and twists. Not too much background score . Not too much hyterics. Few lines. All beautifully shot and played on screen by Al Pacino. Here are my favorites:While in Havana negotiating with Roth, Michael realizes that Fredo is the family traitor he had been looking for. Despite twice telling Michael that he had never met Ola, Fredo drunkenly lets slip that they had met in Havana earlier that year.Movies & TV Stack ExchangeI love how Michael Corleone handles his anger and frustration very well. He could have had a fit and slapped his dimwit of a brother for all I care. Or shot him point blank for more cinematic flare. But he didn’t .He calmly confronts him , gave him the kiss of death and said, "I know it was you, Fredo. You broke my heart. You broke my heart!"Of course we all know where Fredo ended up after- sleeping with the fishes.******************************************Before Don Vito Corleone passed away, he told Michael that whoever will approach him to set up a meeting with the other families is the traitor. Clever of the Don himself to predict that one of his own close friends, Salvatore Tessio, would betray him.How could he have predicted that? And why on his funeral? And yet it turned out to be true. There sits Michael Corleone, watching all the people paying their respects to his late father.Tessio then approached him for a meeting with Barzini :Look at that. Not a flinch. No surprise whatsoever. Not a hint of disbelief from an utter betrayal being committed by a man who was like a father to him.Again, we all know what happened to the other heads of the other families by the end of the movie as he was attending the baptism as a godfather to his sister Connie’s son.******************************************and lastly this: the final scene of the 3rd movieMichael Corleone , after trying for years to legitimize the business , ends up losing everything in the end- with his daughter taking the bullet for him. Perhaps a retribution for past transgressions. Or plain karma. He then hands the reins to his nephew, Vincent, and retires to his villa is Sicily. The once powerful Don now old, with no friends and family , died under the midday sun, with no one to witness his last breath but the stray dogs.***The End***I first watched all GodFather movies when I was 16. I have watched it so many times after that. Yet my appreciation for the genius of Francis Ford Coppola never wanes. Some people find it overrated. I couldn’t care any less. It still is my favorite movie and trilogy of all time.

Are there any articles talking about Yammer's strategy and growth at different stages?
The critical components didn't change much over the years, but here's a quick tour from a presentation I did on growth a few years ago.DISCLAIMER: These are strictly the viral features of Yammer. The vast majority of Yammer PM/Engineering time is spent making the product engaging. The engaging product, more than any viral feature, has always been the real secret to Yammer's growth.Yammer initially spun out of Geni, a genealogical site that sought to group all of humanity into one big family tree. That family tree was the core functionality of Geni as well as its' viral element. When you added relatives' emails in the tree, Geni would invite them to participate. From the beginning, the same tree was part of the Yammer sign-up flow, but now as the company org chart:It would similarly invite people in your company. The early team also added a simple in-product invite link and page. That link went to a dialog like:Later this dialog replaced the Org Chart in the signup flow. I’ve always found it a little baffling that this dialog was effective, as we hadn’t given the user a good understanding of the product or why it was valuable yet. It also requires a lot of manual text entry. But, try as we might to improve this experience, it persists to this day in largely the same form. Here you see one evolution including the org chart and the invite link:Later iterations of that invite page included address book import as well:This was always a little weird for us though. Though we iterated on this dialog, we knew most of our users were using Outlook/Exchange, so the value of this feature was limited. With this iteration, now a few things changed:Communities - now Yammer could be used between companies with different domains. These cross-network-effects aren't super strong for Yammer, but they do come into play. Here's a model of Yammer cross-network-effects in pharma circa 2012:An invite box on the main page, partially replacing some of the need for the multiple text box page. Leaving us free to experiment with...A more flexible invite dialog. Now linked from the old invite page and the people pages.Yes, that green button is a little close to what Nir Eyal would call "viral oops". But it is important to note that it only re-invites people who have been added already, either via invite or users uploading their phone contacts.Another iteration of the landing page:Invite is now over to the left. Inviting is also suggested as part of the "Getting Started" checkbox. That Suggested People is a seed for something that would come later. We're pretty close to the modern incarnation of Yammer here:Add opens that search/invite dialog from above and we've added a couple elements that are now closer to real viral loops:Users who have been invited can be at-mentioned like confirmed users and you can also at-mention them via their email address. Their new "invite" email contains a copy of the message, so they know a bit more about what they're doing. That Suggested People dialog now includes users who have been invited, but not confirmed. The subsequent invite email informs them that the user is interested in what they have to say in Yammer. There are countless other little features used to draw in new users, but that's a survey of the most successful. It is worth noting that k-factor is not the end of the story. Some of the most successful features for sending out invites lead to our lowest quality users:As we discovered, acquisition source affected long term engagement (DAU & MAU):And, really interestingly, acquisition source affected the k-factor of new users:There's five years of growth tactics and some of what we learned. I'm sure the team is applying this knowledge and iterating on these features today (if not trying something more radical).

I made the mistake of engaging the Jehovah's Witnesses that come by. How can I get them to stop?
Oh, Lord! I was expecting a parcel to arrive that day so when I heard a knock at the door I just knew it was the postman, WRONG! It was the cutest little old lady with a younger lady standing there smiling at me and me smiling back at her in all her grandmotherly sweetness, then I noticed the book in her hand and thought, Ohhh shit. I didn’t invite them in, and yes I felt ashamed for that because, I’m southern dammit, we are friendly, polite, welcoming people, glad that you took the time to stop by for a visit, we welcome you into our home, put on a pot of fresh, hot coffee or offer you iced tea and something to eat, but these were no ordinary women, they were Jehovah’s witnesses and once you open that door, they gotcha and God forgive me but getting them to leave you alone isn’t easy and I cannot be rude to people. So how did I get them to stop? Well, I politely told the cute little old lady, after standing in my doorway for about 30 minutes while being “Jehovah’s witnessed” that I’m not interested in confining myself to a specific religion, as my parents had me baptized as a baby and I didn’t confine myself to that religion either but thank you for stopping by. They came back every. other. day. for about a month. After the third time of answering my door, I started making sure I knew who was at the door before opening it, it got to where we didn't go outside because they’d caught us out in our yard a few times. Then they changed their strategy tricking me yet again, this time they sent a cute little girl to my door and once again they got me. So, how did I get them to stop? I told the cute little girl that I admired her for her dedication and loyalty to her way of life, and that most girls her age were out playing with their friends on such a beautiful day like it was that day, and to please go get your mother out the car and to please wait there for your moms return. I told the mother of the cute little girl that out of respect for her daughter probably being born into Jehovah's witness way of life and not knowing anything else, I’d rather not tarnish her idea of people in general and that I am now a good person with a good heart but after putting up with the cute little old lady that came to my house every other day for a month or so, and catching us outside sometimes, I was a bit fed-up, this had gone on long enough, and I was beginning to feel stalked and a bit bible beaten, I would never become a Jehovah’s witness, and had tolerated all I felt I could tolerate and the aggravation of it tempted me to return to a past I had left long ago when I realized I didn’t want to spend eternity in hell. Not sure what she thought I meant from what I said, she seemed a bit rattled, but was polite and quickly left, and not a single Jehovah’s witness has come back in about four years.

What motivates you the most when you look back on a previous failure?
“My friend failed his 12th boards, yes you read it right.”Before you figure it out why? Let me tell you he was really brilliant in studies and always been an office bearer from class-VI, there wasn’t a single batch he hadn’t got, topped whole school in few Olympiads too but unfortunately he failed in 12th boards. At first he didn’t realised as it was not expected atleast from him. As the result was announced we gathered at our friend’s place to check our result, we checked his result first, he was failed in three subjects (all in theory part only), did pretty well in English (81) but the result status showed ‘FAIL’ which overshadowed his other achievements and his name in our school. At first he wasn’t much stressed and was calm. Later when we started checking our results where I also scored less marks from what I expected, one of our friend said checking his own result- “Thank god I didn’t failed otherwise I’m surely gonna commit suicide”. I’ve seen his face at that time, I was able to figure out the stress building up now in his mind. While I was dropping him to home, he asked me -”Shubhendu, Do you also think that I should commit suicide because I failed my 12th exam?” I immediately stopped my bike and turned to him and said - “You don’t need to do anything stupid or to listen others, we’ll meet in the evening”.In the evening I called him to come and meet me at a church nearest to our location for a small discussion. We had our discussion about other ways related to the problems and solutions for that. From then I figured out now no one is talking to him, some students were making fun of him that “how one can fail his 12th? how stupid he is etc, all because of Facebook, that girl he use to love also left him as she secured 88% and he failed, What a loser he is”. These were the remarks from his best friends. He appeared another year as a private candidate and went to our principal for signature in his candidature form, our school peon recognized him and said hello! and said let me get it signed as principal ma’am maybe busy right now, principal signed his form and returned it to peon. She didn’t invited him to meet once where earlier she use to invite him for evening snacks to her home, she was really impressed from him in his golden time, now not bothered to ask him how he is feeling? He managed to score 54% this time which was way less than any standard for admission in any engineering college even tier-III college was asking for 55%. Luckily he got admission in one of the college because he performed well in their test and even the Chairman didn’t believed he failed his 12th as he performed well in the test. After four years of engineering, he did well there too and managed to score 66% in his graduation degree. Thanks to his family for being supportive all the time for him. He was happy. I was also in touch with him at that time, watching him walk alone with his past making new friends, achieving new heights. He got few job offers from his respective branch but packages were around 1.2–2 lacs which was way below one can expect. He appeared for C-CAT and currently pursuing a PG-diploma course in CDAC Benagluru. His journey inspires me the most and teach me how one can lift oneself after failing in life. What we learned from the story?People will abandon you when you fail, even your best friend will leave you one day cos of your failures . People always admire the successful people not the one who fails.Only you and your parents is going to be with you in your dark days, no matter how many people be with you in your golden days.Never quit, just keep on going and achieve success. No matter how hard maybe the path is, you have to motivate yourself and keep moving.Eventually all will be fine, maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow but someday it will so just don’t lose hope. People who ignore you today will admire your success story someday. It’s your life, Make it large so that one can take inspiration from your story.Failure will tell you your real friends and what this fake world have for you. So believe in yourself only.Never lose hope, as success is stumbling from failure to failure with no loss of enthusiasm.and as J.K. Rowling said-“We do not need magic to transform our world. We carry all of the power we need inside ourselves already.”Peace!
