in the last decade MV RBC has experienced rapid growth both in the size of our service region and the number of units collected annually during this period of growth MV RBC kept pace with the ever-changing landscape of the blood banking industry collecting over 130,000 units of whole blood annually MV RBC provides special services such as a reference testing for hospitals educational husband Aaron and I'm going to give you a little bit of information about my story may 21st 2004 I was hospitalized for a tenday ruptured appendix and I ended up with three major surgeries and between the second and third surgery I ended up with blood clots and my sub clavicles and jugulars and because of that they ended up needing to go in and do blood thinners with me which could have potentially killed me but they were able to make that work as well at that time in order for them to be able to do that I had to receive at least one blood transfusion possibly more than that but I really don't have any idea how much blood I actually received but I know that without it there's no way that I would be here and so I received at least two bags of plasma and blood thinners and I was hospitalized for almost two months at Genesis East who is directly connected to Mississippi Valley Regional blood center that's where they receive all of their blood from so I know that Mississippi Valley was very much directly reflected in being able to impact our lives because without those donors there was absolutely no way every day MVR bc recruits volunteer donors to give the gift of life with the help of the recruitment staff the donors from your community come to give blood whether it's at one of the fixed donor centers or at a mobile drive in your community people from all walks of life roll up their sleeves and donate blood to help others in need to illustrate the donation process we will follow Angelo the donor as he experiences each step Angelo like all blood donors has had something to eat and drink at least four hours before donating this reduces the chance he will have a reaction to the donation first Angelo checks in at the registration desk there he presents his donor ID card or photo ID the clerk asked him for his name address the name of his doctor donor ID number and other identifying questions to be eligible to donate blood Angelo must be at least 17 years of age or 16 years of age with parental consent there is no upper age limit to donate after Angelo is finished with registration he moves into a screening booth Angelo next undergoes a mini physical which consists of recording his weight and height as well as blood pressure pulse and temperature being taken by the plebada 'must or nurse all must meet acceptable criteria
