what is up you guys my name is aubry and this is my channel and today i'm going to be telling you guys how to go about applying for unemployment so let's get started so over the last few weeks i've been getting this request more and more to walk you guys through the steps of applying for unemployment and unfortunately unemployment and applying for this is not as clear-cut as it is as the like ppp program in the eidl program because unemployment is handled by the states while ppp and eidl were handled by banks and the sba so because of that it is very difficult for me to go through and give you guys an exact step-by-step walkthrough of how to apply for unemployment but i will give you guys the tips on how to get started and what you need in order to get started so here are a few things that you need and you should have handy whenever you apply for unemployment number one is your social security number you're also going to need your driver's license number if you have one or your identification number you'll also need a vali mailing address which includes an address state city and zip code you'll need to have a valid phone number in which you can actually have access to because there is a chance that the department of labor would be giving you a call through that number if you are not a us citizen you will need an alien registration number you will need the company name and the company address of the company that you're working for before you became unemployed and if you live in a state that requires for you to have your unemployment direct deposited then you will want to have access to and be able to give your routing number and account number for your bank account if you're somebody who's applying as an independent contractor or a self-employed individual instead of using past employer information like company name and company address you would just use your own information for example if i was applying for unemployment i worked for myself so i would put aubrey yannick as the company name and i would put my home address or my main address as the company address now once you have all this information handy you are ready to go apply for unemployment now this is where the process deviates from state to state so i have included a link in the description below that gives you access to each department of labor for each individual state all you have to do is scroll down and find your specific state so once you navigate to your specific department of labor website for your state you will then simply follow the prompts and you will click apply for unemployment on that website again this location on the website varies from website to website and from state to state but for the most part it is pretty clear-cut and once you select that you're wanting to apply for unemployment you will then typically have to create an account with the website and then you'll have to file an application whenever you file an application the website will ask you things like what your address is what your past employer was how much you got paid what you did how long you worked for them and why you are currently unemployed you will want to answer all of those questions truthfully and then also during the application process it will also ask you your current financial standing whether or not you're making any money right now how often or how many hours you spent looking for another job and kind of what your current economic standpoint looks like you will also want to fill out that information as accurately as possible once you fill out your application you'll then get a confirmation number which you will want to make sure that you write down because once you exit out of the page you will not have access to that confirmation number anywhere else and then within 24 to 48 hours sometimes longer depending on the state you will then get confirmation that you are either approved or denied for unemployment if you are approved for unemployment you will then have to request payment on a bi-weekly basis if you are denied for unemployment i would encourage you to call your department of labor and figure out why you're denied and how you can fix issues that caused your denial but all in all you guys as i said earlier it is difficult to walk you guys through the process of unemployment because of the fact that it varies so
