trading process and what I'm gonna do now is walk through the thing slide by slide and go over how we would like for you to give the presentation I'm gonna include some tidbits to point out during certain slides I'm also going to give you some tips we've discovered that helps smooth things along as you move to the present the presentation I am NOT one for editing so this is going to be a little rough but I'll do the best I can to cover all the areas that American Board representatives and ambassadors typically have to cover so a couple of notes to start with this is the PowerPoint presentation as I mentioned you should already have received this along with the presentation guide this is open in PowerPoint right now so what we like for our representatives to do is have it open mokou paired a slideshow play from start I don't have any timings set in this so you'll have to actually hit the button to move the slide forward so this is what it should look like again this is not the entire screen this is one section but I'm going to for our purposes today I'm going to walk through it like this but when people come into the room we'd like to have this slide up and showing behind you just as you greet people invite them to sign in we ask for email phone number and name but it's it's incredibly important that we at least get the phone number excuse me we get the name and the email because then we can sign them up for the free trial anyone who comes to one of your events is considered to be one of your leads so we need to get their name if you want to get credit for if and when they enroll so again this slide up as people walk in once it's time we ask that you you know ask everyone to take their seats say okay we're gonna get started introduce yourself and talk a little bit about why you are working with the American Board now a word of caution here I have never met a human being that does not love the sound of their own voice myself included and we all have the tendency when given the floor talk a bit more than anyone else wants to hear so just as a word of caution right here make sure when you get into why you are working with the American Board have decide what you want to say and then keep it short and sweet and stick to that point because for the most part people want to get into the meat of why they came they want to get into how the program works so be as brief as you can your opening remarks studies have shown that you have 17 minutes people have about 17 minutes of attention that they can give and then really after that they're just pretending to be paying attention I would argue with smartphones sometimes that's much less but 17 minutes is the number that experts have come up with so we're trying to keep the entire presentation to about 15 minutes the way to do that is to be briefing to the point and at the very beginning ask everyone please hold your questions until the end of the presentation and then I'll be happy to answer any questions that you've got if you do this she'll prevent people from interrupting to ask a question and usually they're interrupting to ask a question you're going to answer a couple of slides on so to start with just to recap welcome everybody talk about why you're working with American Board ask everyone to hold their questions until the end of the presentation and then dive right into the slides we like to start with a summary of who we are and what we do there's no other program like ours in the United States that's not bragging that's actually literally true there is no other program like this we are the only program founded by the US Department of Education we're a non-profit we've been around since 2001 so we like to open with that we'd like to point out we're a non-profit we're started by the USDA we're an alternative route to teacher certification and we help career changers or in certification and it's important to bring that up for several reasons right here is where you want to explain to people and I'm going to add in the notes down here we are not a school we don't have classes we don't have semesters a lot of people since they've never heard of anything like our program they assume we are some kind of an online school like you city of Phoenix we're not a school we're a teacher certification organization and that is substantially different so we'd like to point that out in the first slide and then we'd like to point out that we'd like to help communities deal with the teacher shortage by training people that already live there now as you're hitting each of these points it's important that you not I mean for the first couple of presentations you will probably be reading a bit off the PowerPoint but it's important to get to a place where you don't have to read everything verbatim off of the PowerPoint you should be able to speak to these points pretty clearly without reading from the PowerPoint by about your second or third presentation so please familiarize yourself with this presentation so that you can speak to it without reading off the PowerPoint it looks it looks a lot better that way so then you dive into the how it works slides of which there are several for the state of Oklahoma so for this first slide this is a this is an important one because this for a lot of people is is pretty much the basic of what they need to know the basis of what they need to know excuse me all you need to do our program is a bachelor's degree in any field and you need to pass a standard federal background check and that's it now here it's important to point out that there's no other program for which this is true anything else your bachelor's degree has to be related to the field you want to teach or there's a GPA requirement or something else you have to do our program was designed to be very simple with very very simple qualifications to get in because the idea is once you're in it's up to you to prove that you're qualified to teach so all you need is a bachelor's degree and pass a standard background check and that's it and we'd like to emphasize that on this slide once you've enrolled what you do and again this is to highlight how simple our program is you study for and take to certification exams a subject area exam and a professional teacher knowledge exam you take and pass these two exams and that's all you need to earn our certification this is this is the basic I say elevator speech for our entire program it varies a little bit between the states some of the specifics of what the DA requires but this is the core of it right here on the slide and this is what we like to to emphasize so people can see how simple it is moving on how it works we like to point out they have 12 months to complete the program but the average time is seven to ten months again these are numbers you should be able to say off the top of your head without having to look at the slide this is this is our standard standard information you need to have already in your head we Proctor the exams or people have to go take the exams at a local Pearson VUE testing center moving on we get into some of the specifics of what's required in the state of Oklahoma after both exams are passed they get our teacher certification you present it to the Oklahoma do-e and you get a one-year initial teaching license now for some people who are not familiar it sounds like our certification is temporary and it is absolutely not our certification is a lifetime once you've got our certification it's good for life and it's good in any of the states where we operate right now we're in 13 states if in a year and a half we're in 15 or 16 states you will have reciprocity with all of those states so if you live in Oklahoma but you moved to Missouri or Florida or South Carolina or any other state we're accepted your certification transfers with us so I've actually made a note of that here at the bottom so that's something that you'll want to hit you want to touch on on this slide so you get a temporary teaching license which is kind of how a lot of new teachers start while you go through standard classroom observations now here is the only additional fee for our program I'm going to get to costs in just a couple of slides but the the mentorship that is required in the state of Oklahoma is an additional fee that you pay after you've completed our certification it's five hundred and ninety five dollars and it's four it's required by the state of Oklahoma for a year of mentorship so six standard classroom observations so we do like to make sure we're clear on that and then moving on to the last how it works slide we say after you complete this the mentorship in your first year you apply for your standard license which is a five year renewable permanent teaching license and then your fully certified now point out here please that while you're working then initial year on your initial license you are being paid full-time as a teacher there's not like a salary scale or salary fee for initial teachers licenses and permanent you're being paid as a teacher the entire time so subject areas in Oklahoma we get this this is one of our most common questions this is what we offer we do not offer elementary education we offer critical needs areas as they have been identified by the Oklahoma do II so biology chemistry it's all six through twelfth grades so it's all basically middle to high school now a couple of these have some asterisks behind them so here's what those signify we have a premium plan that's available and you will need to touch on this in the presentation we have a premium plan that's available for biology English and math what that means is we have additional materials you can purchase for two hundred dollars you can purchase additional quiz banks additional study guides things like that for those three subject areas now we want to make it clear we offer those plans if you want them however here's the important part our standard certification plan for all of these subject areas the materials were designed to be sufficient to prepare you for the exams so you can get the biology and the math in the English you can upgrade to a premium plan but there's nothing in the premium plan that you have to have in order to be able to pass it was designed for the standard plan to be enough so we typically don't push the premium plan unless you really want the extra resources we'd like to be very upfront with people it's not critical you know we're going to be able to pass you get what you need with the standard plan so moving quickly because I know we're coming up on 17 minutes pretty fast resources for you we like to touch on what we provide what we don't since some people think that we're a school or some people think we do online classes or they think we're going to send the materials basically they think we're going to send them books or notebooks or flashcards we like to be very clear all of our materials are online you'll probably have to repeat that at least twice everything is online the quizzes the study materials the practice exams everything you can access through a computer if you do our history certification it does require two actual textbooks you can order from Amazon for 20 or 30 bucks each the newer versions might be more expensive now it changes every couple of months but you do have to order those on Amazon that is an additional cost but it's not a ridiculous cost but all of our study materials are online so one other thing to point out is that included in the cost of the program which I am going to get to our initial testing fees so you get three attempts at each exam but only the first attempt is included in the cost of the program so when you purchase the program you purchase the study materials and one attempt at each exam if you pass both exams on the first try there's no additional fees related to the exams if you don't pass an exam and you have to retake it there's a one hundred and ninety five dollar retake fee and that's non-waivable you can purchase it to your dashboard if you need to but most the vast majority of our candidates and this is a good thing to point out to people the vast majority of our candidates pass on the first or second attempt a lot of them pass on the first but if they don't then the most pass on the second it's very rare that someone needs a third attempt at the exam so just something to point out as you're talking about resources that we provide now one question we get a lot is what about student teaching how can you train people to be teachers without student teaching so Oklahoma has that mentorship program in place for the first year to help new teachers but this this question actually is answered by going back to why we were founded we were created to help career changers transition into the classroom from a different field if you've got someone who's been working for 10 15 20 years in a different industry they're in their 40s or 50s or even 30s and they're moving into teaching its teach student teaching is not going to have the same effect as it would for a 20 year old undergraduate so it just doesn't serve the same purpose so for our program student teaching is not required having said that there's two things you want to point out on this slide that's right down here at the bottom one we highly recommend that you do substitute teaching prior to completing your certification with us and there's two reasons you want to touch on one is listed here it's a great way to assess which age group you want to work with nothing is worse than thinking you want to teach second grade and figuring out you really can't handle second grade you'd rather teach fifth or thinking you want to teach 11th grade but really you want to teach sixth so we recommend that you substitute teach and figure out the age group you want to work with and the subject area when you get into high school which is always certified for in Oklahoma the content varies greatly year by year so if you don't want to teach state history if you'd rather teach world history if you want to teach a certain year of English but you really don't want to teach another year of English it's good to know what content is taught on what grade level so we highly recommend substitute teaching for those two reasons just to recap find out what age group you want to work with find out what content you want to teach because most people and a lot of people think they want to teach one thing and they get in it and they realize they'd really rather be teaching something else and it's better to figure that out before you earn your certification so that's one thing to note or a couple things to note about this particular slide we're getting close to the end now we got about four more slides we want to touch briefly on how much it costs so we have two payment options and there's a couple of things that it's critical you point out on this slide so I'm going to walk through the two or three main things you have you really need to point out for this slide we have two payment options a one-time payment which we also call a lump sum payment and we do a discount on that that's on the right-hand side and an installment plan if you can't do a lump sum payment a lot of people don't have this much money sitting around burning a hole in their pocket if you can't do a one-time payment we do an installment plan and it's nine installments of 298 dollars a month that comes out to two thousand eight hundred sixty two dollars over nine months now for a lot of people this is a much more bite-sized option than a lump sum payment however as you can see it's significantly less to do the lump sum payments so we always like to encourage people if you can put it on a credit card you can enroll anytime online it can do the web sum payment but we always like to recommend that people consider the one-time payment if they can swing it because it's it's just a more affordable option so the cost of the one-time payment varies anywhere from 1900 to 2200 dollars they'll need to check the website for the current promotion that week it changes every week an they can enroll online at any time once they create an account for the one-time payment if they're gonna do the installment plan payment then they have to do that through us and we have to set it up in the system so they will need to contact us and enroll with it with an online application excuse me they'll have to roll with an application sent to us by email or fax they can't enroll online so here's one thing that's very important to touch on when you're on this slide for a lot of people this is a lot of money and they get sticker shock when they see this so it's important to point out here that cost wise this is the most effective efficient and flexible way to transition to a new career you will not find for lack of a better way to say you will not find a cheaper way to get training for a new career than this so if you want to transition into teaching a master's degree is ten to fifteen thousand dollars on the low side and you have to quit school you have to quit your job and to school for two years and student teaching and there's and you come out in debt there's a lot of downsides to trying to do a masters especially for people who are in the middle of they have jobs and mortgages and families and things like that so our program was designed to be flexible for people who have all those things that I just mentioned and can't walk away to return to school so it's important to touch here on the that this is a very affordable option and in fact a very affordable way to get into a new career please mention that on this slide because for a lot of people like I said this is a lot of money so we need to put in perspective for them that in terms of what they're trying to do this is actually a very cost effective way to do it this is a very cost effective way to change careers so once you've touched on that point we're going to go back to why would they use our program and this I'll say it's very important to circle back to basically for a non-profit this is this is our selling point this is where you make your sales pitch for why they should use our program being fully self paced and self-study let's people finish on their own time and at their own pace that's very important for people with busy lives we want to point that out we want to point out that we're more affordable than any other option I usually like to circle back and mention here that once again there is no other program like this we don't have any any competition per se because no other program can do this there are other programs that pretend they can but we're the only one certified through the doee to offer this type of a deal to people so that's what we like to touch on with this slide we're the only ones were the only program like this self-paced self-study online affordable it's a great way to transition into a career in teaching so airSlate SignNow has been a awesome software for electric signatures. This has been a useful tool and has been great and definitely helps time management for important documents.
