what's up guys today i want to talk about starting an llc it sounds so much easier said than done but trust me i've received so many questions from a lot of my friends from older people you know in my family and things of that nature i want to share with you guys exactly how you can start your llc for the low no lawyer required i'm not a lawyer so just please just keep that in mind as well but i've started four llc's and i'll show you exactly how i have done that so first things first a lot of people are really unsure about where to go when starting an llc they think it's impossible to do they think that they need a lawyer you know they need all these the stuff the documents everything it's really as simple as going to legalzoom.com and following through until you have purchased your llc now depending on what state you're in just keep in mind that the rules may be a little bit different so i always tell people to do research in their state but when you're doing that research you can ver you can pretty much narrow it down to what are my legal exam rules in my state whatever the case is because in this video i'm going to show you exactly how to create your llc on legalzoom nowhere else and what you do once that llc has been created as far as filing for your ein number on the irs.gov so i'm gonna get into a screen share and i'm gonna show you guys exactly how to do that and if you guys have any questions you know about okay now that i've set up my llc what do i do next feel free to comment down below and i'll be sure to answer all of your questions in later videos i plan to go into taxes and things of that nature and mistakes that i've made so that people you guys know like what to avoid and and how to enjoy being a business owner so let's get into it all right guys so we are on the legalzoom.com website the official legal zoom website i promise you a couple years ago it did not look anything like this now it looks very uh easy to navigate if you will um so we're gonna go ahead and get started with llc so um let's just pick a random name i don't know what i'm feeling right now um feeling very empathic so we'll call it empathic studios i don't know i'm just making something up going to check if it's available i'm going to enter my state so currently i am in the state of georgia um we're going to skip this get my llc when do you want to start your business we'll just say i already started my empathic studio um next there's so many prompts just you know you gotta get through it uh we'll just pretend that this is my first llc um either way this question doesn't really make a difference it's just them gathering stats on you know their demographic so what will empathic studios uh let's just call it a store um online retail sounds good uh so this is obviously gonna be a personal question so if you do think you'll have employees in the next 12 months go ahead and answer yes if you're not sure answer no it really doesn't matter so i'm going to put no and again another question they would like to be your registered agent and again this is where i mentioned going state by state so do research into what is required by your state before finalizing this process but essentially my llc's have been filed in the state of florida i'm allowed to become my own registered agent so i opted into that solution essential documents so they're referring to your operating agreement here or your articles of organization and the articles of organization is given to you so it's basically saying xyz has filed for this llc and it's legitimate and they are eligible to now receive an ein number so that they can start receiving funds within the united states and then the other one that i mentioned which is your operating agreement is basically only necessary if you have other partners within your llc the operating agreement basically tells you if this happens within the business then we'll do this this is how we operate our business and again it's really only important when you have other partners that you're going into this partnership with in the beginning if it's just you you don't need it you can always add it later on again and it's just a normal legal document if you are an individual person i wouldn't pay too much attention to it but if you do have a partner you guys can actually come to your own terms and agreements because that's essentially what an operating agreement is it's whatever you guys come to terms with so i'm just going to go ahead and click next continue with legalzoom i don't really know i'm not really reading any of this so now you're presented with these three packages and their whole thing is let us do everything for you and you pay a premium price for it when in reality you don't need to do any of this operating agreement again this is only if you have partners and this is only if you don't trust that you and your partner can come to your own terms of how you guys would like to run the business i recommend getting an actual lawyer for this because the legal zoom version or any version that you find online is super generic so you and your business partners should come up with your own type of terms of agreement so i'm not going to select this one going on to the next one operating agreement plus ein this is really funny to me because you can file for an ein number on irs.gov yourself and it literally takes two minutes i will show you guys exactly how to do that once you've filed for your llc it takes no time for you to do it yourself once you've received your articles of organization and again your articles of organization is what legalzoom will send you as a part of their service and it's required wherever you go to file your llc next we have operating agreement plus the ein plus licenses if you're filing for an llc and you don't have a business partner and you know how to operate the irs.gov which i will show you so you don't need to say you can't say you don't know um you don't need licenses i promise you at this stage of your business unless you went into it knowing exactly what you'll need as far as licenses go ninety percent of the time you can file for these after you've already started your llc because a lot of the k a lot a lot of people will see that once they filed for their llc their business tends to shift directions it's not what they thought it was going to be and so a lot of the times these licenses are irrelevant so i'm not really sure what they're referring to when they mention licenses but just know that it's not necessary for you to begin your business legally okay so unless you're doing construction or you're you know a contractor or you're doing insurance obviously again do your research in whatever field you're going into but just to get set up you don't need to select this option so we're going to go down here where it says no thanks i'll provide my own documents now let's add the protection your business will need okay um legal protect so again this is another one of those things where they try to get you to add onto the package but you don't really need it so we're going to go ahead and say no thanks total compliance again 280 a year the last one i believe was 20 uh 39.99 per year so already we're looking at over 300 per year for some uh you know programs and additions that you don't actually need to get started in business so we're going to say no thanks again now i'm kind of out of breath because there's so much that they try to get you to add so now i just it says let's select an llc package below and you're all done that's a joke they're not all done there's going to be so many more additions that they're going to try to add to this so we'll go ahead and play the game um so we just want economy this is the most basic filing they say 30 business days but in my experience it's always come within 15 to 20 days which is fine you know i'm willing to wait um because everything else is kind of ridiculous so for 79 which is how much it costs for for legalzoom to file my llc for me plus the 100 georgia filing fee it's a total of 179 i will have an llc in the state of georgia which i've heard people say oh i've spent a thousand dollars for my llc you know i paid a lawyer three thousand dollars to do the research to get my llc that's ridiculous just go to legalzoom and block all of the additions everything they try to throw at you just block it out and just go straight to the economy for 79 plus whatever your state's filing fee is i think florida is a little bit higher so it's kind of uh upsetting to see that i can pay in georgia to file an llc just a hundred dollar filing fee and then 79 dollars for legalzoom to do that filing for me uh anyway so i'm gonna click select again all these editions no i don't want bank of america to harass me for a credit card um anyway so once you get to this page you think you might be done but you're not actually done so let me show you something um really quickly so legalzoom registered agent so we want to check that anything that says added here you want to be sure to double check to double check registered agent so this is very very important because i've had a lot of friends who have come to me and asked me you know hey can you help me file for an llc and i say sure go to legalzoom.com and don't add anything to your cart and they're like okay yeah yeah i followed all the way through right my total due now is 179 but that's not the case you have to be sure to go here where it says legal zoom registered agent even though in the beginning we said no thank you they find a way to add it to your cart so go to legalzoom go to edit under registered agent so that you can avoid this 250 a year charge which will come immediately after you register for the llc not immediately but maybe like a week or two after you're like oh i followed my llc i'm really excited just be aware of this 250 per year charge so we're going to go ahead and say i'll nominate my own registered agent now in this case you can either be your registered agent and a registered agent is basically someone who will file your quarterly taxes for you they'll be on top of all of your tax documents and all that good stuff they'll be the ones to tell you hey it's time to file your taxes they'll also be the ones that will receive any tax documents that the government wants to send you and you are a hundred percent able to become your own registered agent and just read through you know what it says here and again depending on your state do your own research i am not a lawyer nor am i a tax agent none of that but just know that you can be your own registered agent if your state allows for that and it's really simple so no more on that i'll get into that in a later video but just go ahead and update your order no thanks no things no things that's what i like to see zero dollars all right perfect so we have exactly what we want also this comprehensive welcome packet is literally just a folder a hard stock folder with brochures in it so unless you want to pay 40 dollars for some brochures i will not check that box this is for my llc empathetic empathic studio sorry empathic studios um i'm filing for an economy llc i'm paying george's filing fee of a hundred dollars i don't want essential documents such as an operating agreement my ein or the licenses because i can do that myself or i can find one online or i can hire a lawyer where i can customize my operating agreement i will become my own registered agent or i'll hire someone to do it again for less than 250 a year legal protect that'll come with whatever lawyer i choose or anything like that you know once you actually start to generate revenue to whatever your goal is that's when i would look into all of these things just to get started though you don't need any of this so total compliance i don't even know with you know like this is just bs honestly so zero zero okay perfect now i'm going to continue to check out and this is where i will enter all of my information and again they will try to get you i'm not going to enter any information here because i'm not actually filing this llc i mean in the future who knows but um if you get all the way here and this is 179 or just your economy filing fee and then your state filing fee you have done a very good job so agree and pay now and then ignore everything else that they try to throw at you again they will try their hardest to make you pay more than what you really should to start an llc it's really not that difficult i hope this video was helpful for you guys i know a lot of the times people think starting an llc is super difficult but this is proof that
