How to industry sign banking kansas ppt later

all right so we're going to have uh one more a little bit of powerpoint on the great depression and then we'll move to other videos about the new deal which is you know the attempt to solve the problems of the great depression all right now we talked about that crash in october 1929 of the stock market and then this challenge becomes very quickly what are companies going to do about it what are these businesses going to do about it and you see this real cycle of decline that is going to lead to what becomes you know the high you know the what everybody thinks of with the great depression is this mass unemployment uh you've got these huge numbers of people that become unemployed this is the percentage of unemployment during the great depression you could see again at the low point of 1920 32 1933 you have something like 25 percent of all americans uh employment seeking americans this is going to be a lot of men that are going to be counted in these numbers um that are are out of work uh who want to be working and i think it's important to realize that this is nationwide unemployment numbers there are some of these industrial cities some of these um you know coal mining towns and different things like this that are going to have massive losses of jobs uh 80 percent employment unemployment and some parts of the country that are you know their entire industry is lost the mining the mines are closing uh where you have these whole communities that are lost to unemployment in this period and this number keeps going up and up and it's going to greatly affect the economy because even if so even if you don't lose your job and and we're actually in a time right now where you know i think we have greater empathy with the people of the 1920s and 30s than perhaps we might have five years ago this idea that if your neighbor loses their job even if you feel good about your job if your neighbor loses your job and and that person over there loses theirs and that person over there loses theirs what do you do even if you feel good about your job what do you start doing you you start saving your money don't you you start well hey maybe things aren't looking so good maybe i should start saving my money maybe i don't need that for slice toaster my two slice toasters working just fine i'm gonna i'm gonna not buy that four slice toaster i'm gonna hang on to my money i'm gonna keep it in the bank and just in case i lose my job i'll have a little cushion all right we all need a little cushion they say you should have at least a month's worth of cushion 60 90 days worth of cushion is even better but people didn't have cushions in this time period and they they started saving their money right i'm not gonna buy that four slice toaster i'm not gonna buy that new car i'm not gonna buy that new vacuum cleaner so if people who have jobs start doing that let alone the people who are out of jobs and can't afford to buy the new new toaster or blender or vacuum cleaner or whatever right so what happens to the four slice toaster factory right what what happens to them well the people stop buying four sliced toasters and the reality is that a lot of these factories had been stocking right they'd just been making and making and making these four sliced toasters and these vacuum cleaners and so their shelves are full of these things and to they had to sell them to make up for the cost of them and to justify keeping making new ones well if people stop buying them because either they're unemployed or they're scared of being unemployed what's going to happen to the toaster factory well obviously you're thinking it yourselves right the toaster factory is going to stop making toasters which means they're not going to need as many people so they're going to lay off more people which means you're going to have more unemployed people and those unemployed people and their neighbors who are afraid and see them unemployed are going to not buy the new vacuum cleaner they've been thinking about and well all of a sudden now the vacuum cleaner factory is going to have to lay people off because they're not selling enough vacuums and those those people aren't going to buy the new car or are going to buy right so you can see this really vicious cycle of decline where as it starts you know because in 1929 you can see that unemployment is really pretty not too bad in in 1929 but as more and more people get laid off and more and more people get unemployed more and more factories are going to close more and more industry is going to close the agriculture is already in the tank and doing poorly and it's just going to get worse and worse and so those unemployment numbers are going to get higher and higher and what happens is you have 25 percent of the american population is unemployed even more are underemployed and we see that a lot today where americans are underemployed meaning they have jobs but it's not enough to call a a living right that livable wage kind of thing uh and you know where a lot of companies say okay we're gonna we're not gonna lay everybody off but we're gonna cut everybody to halftime right everybody instead of you know getting full pay everybody's going to get half pay well that's that's not as bad but that's pretty difficult to get through it so we see these unemployment numbers at 24 25 percent nationwide but the underemployment numbers are even higher so the amount of money in people's pockets is is less and less as this depression goes on and what happens is you have this overwhelming trouble here right so this is a you know a fairly standard photo you see it from all over in cities across the country and this is a soup line or a bread line where these men are all lined up to go in and get lunch right because they don't have enough money for food so they're going to stand in line and try to get food you can see the makeup of this crowd you see a lot of men who are very well dressed if you got nice shoes nice clothes you know hats were the thing at the time obviously some of the men are hiding their faces um others are looking at the camera with a scowl this idea of you know people didn't have enough food to eat you can see there's some black men in this line you know and that was an issue across america is whether minorities were given the same opportunities for some of this aid it depended on the place many of the northern cities did have kind of integrated soup lines but in the south it was sometimes separated [Music] and and this challenge of of how do you feed all the people well remember we talked about that progressive era and how you have all these private organizations that are there to help people especially in the cities and help the immigrants and help these working-class people have these new opportunities and things like that and so you have a lot of these private organizations whether it's the salvation army or a lot of the churches that are going to have these bread lines and soup and bread and food for for unemployed people but they're not made to handle 25 of the population right millions of people who are unemployed and so they very quickly fall behind and and it's just not it's just not enough anymore it's just not enough anymore um this is going to affect all aspects of american life uh the number of children born this is just a statistic that doesn't get talked about much but i think especially at a woman's university it's important um is the number of children born to american women and how this drops once the depression hits remember birth control is still not very reliable in this era but people are actively working to not have children um in the 1930s because the economics are so horrible uh in in the the 1930s and there's no stability you have people postponing getting married for many years the marriage age goes up and up until it's uh in the late night late 20s um almost 30 uh for american women in this era because you know if you can't afford to live by yourself you probably shouldn't get married right the that that's the theory at the time uh that you're you know part of being married is being independent from your parents uh so you have a lot of people postponing childbirth or not getting married and so the number of births in the united states uh drops dramatically you'll see it rise again during the war years uh dip a little uh and then and then it's gonna grow uh exponentially with the baby boom which we'll talk about later right so this is one of the consequences of the great depression this is like a shanty town right or what they called it at the time was a hooverville the president at the time was herbert hoover poor hoover hoover i always feel bad for him he had was very well respected engineer he um he ran the food program in europe at the end of world war one and saved the lives of tens of thousands of europeans with his food distribution plans and things like that uh you know really um respectable guy very pro-business but but a respectable guy great reputation he gets elected in november of 1928 so all of those problems that were in place uh you know he doesn't get inaugurated until march of 1929 so you know he's in office very little time uh before before the crash and all of these problems but he is thoroughly blamed for them uh the the um his handling of the crisis was the problem not that the crisis existed on his watch but that he handled it so poorly and this idea of these these uh shantytowns these are homeless people who've you know built up right outside the city and and made these little temporary shelters uh you have them across the country outside of city so they called them hoovervilles they called the you know newspapers you take newspapers and cover up with them if you're outside and cold but and homeless you'd cover up with them and they'd call them hoover blankets uh you know all sorts of things that that were very negative about uh poor herbert hoover uh across the country uh he really was the most hated man in america my own grandfather um he's from iowa he was a farmer or not a farmer but he had lived in farming communities his family was train engineers they worked for burlington railroad but he was the first to get to go to college and he went for one year to drake university in iowa was on a football team whole nine yards and then the depression hit and um he wasn't able to finish his freshman year and uh never forgave hoover for it whether hoover it was hoover's fault or not but never never went back to college never you know the war came and he went to war and all of that but but uh you know people people blamed hoover for sure uh so another big problem that's going on and i'd really like these images and think they're pretty important for you to see is the dust bowl uh the dust bowl is um a problem and your crash course videos talks about this but this idea of you've got all that over farming that's going on in the 1920s that we talked about where they're just farming and farming because they're trying to trying to catch up trying to make money um they've got all this new technology so they're farming more land they're not rotating the crops like they should where you know you don't grow the same crop in the same field every every season so the nutrients can recover and then you have a huge drought on top of it so the farming techniques uh over and over farming and a huge drought hit uh the united states in this time period we're really talking about texas just west of denton you know west of here uh but then up through oklahoma particularly the panhandle up into kansas and nebraska parts of western eastern colorado and you know the drought is going to affect across the the midwest but these are the areas that are going to be hardest hit i always like this this image because it's two timed images so this is garden city kansas at 5 15 p.m and in this image you can see you can see the lights here you can see the cars here right you can see the white of the building right so this is at 5 15 just as they're about to be hit by a dust storm this is garden city kansas the same angle right you can see the street lights all right here's the street lights again these three lights um this is at 5 30. this is as the dust storm hit and you can see the kind of clouds in the air so this isn't darkness uh that has hit this is this is dust and dirt that is hit that's how dramatic these dust storms were this is how dark uh and congested the clouds the sky could be and imagine if you're out in this and breathing this and what this what this is doing to the people right here's another example um i i like to show right uh this is another shot of kansas and you can see this is just i mean isn't that terrifying this picture always scares me a little because it's just this huge you know storm of dirt and debris that the winds have just picked up and gotten into the atmosphere and are blowing across across the prairie of of kansas and um you know pretty devastating uh this is another one as it's just hitting these these homes and remember they don't have windows that seal as well as ours and and the amount of dirt that's going to be in people's homes even if they've all made it inside think about the reality that you've got your cattle out in the field you've got your horses out you know you may not have had time to get them into the barn if you've got a good barn uh and and what that's going to do uh to the livestock that you've got outside and um how many are going to be killed from this all right this is another one i always like this one because it's got some of that light and in it to it and can you see these people right here i always kind of want to yell at them to get in the house it's like people that stand outside and watch tornadoes it's like get what what are you doing right this guy back here taking the picture is like you're you're pushing it right you know that there's already dirt in the air near them uh these folks they're just too close right you could see this this house is already being uh covered up like you need to go inside i i don't like them being outside like that so um but again very powerful and it it puts it all to scale a little bit you can see how how devastating this is going to be uh and this again this is a just a pickup trying to outrace this storm and um you know this is one of those where i want to tell the photographer to you know get in their own car and get out of there um but really really very devastating right and you can see just the level of this uh so this is one of my favorite photos uh just because this is a dust storm that has come in and completely buried uh you know buried this car there's a barn behind it that you can see and think about this people had planted crops right they had planted crops they had you know we're farming and these storms come in and and tear up their top soil tear up their crops and then at some point they dump all of that dirt and sand onto these communities and just i mean this car is literally buried in dirt and sand um and just completely destroyed uh and this is where you hear the stories of the okies and the arches and you know these these farmers and sharecroppers that are going to just pick up and go you know try to find work someplace else because there's just nothing for them there's nothing left for them many of them are in severe debt so as soon as they can't bring in any crop at all the banks are going to call their loans so they're going to lose their land they're going to lose their tractors that everything's going to be destroyed anyway just an incredibly devastating uh reality for thousands and thousands of americans across the middle portion of the united states so you know when you think of the great depression think about all that economic loss that is going on both in the cities with people losing their jobs and industry and where are they going to live and how are they going to eat and the inability of those private organizations to keep up and then in these rural communities with you know devastating losses of of the prices of agricultural goods uh and then add on top of it in this middle portion of the country these dust storms uh and the physical devastation from the droughts and these storms and it's just really a very devastating uh hunger time uh for many americans across the country in our next videos we'll talk about what happens next when you've got this this reality uh how is a country going to recover from that and and what action are they going to take all right hopefully uh this helps give you a little basic understanding of the great depression and you're reading your textbook and watching the crash course videos and then we'll talk about the new deal of franklin roosevelt next

The api pricing is good compared to the competition. They allow the sender to edit the document prior to sending which is a huge benefit. They do have many options. I can only assume that by being part of PDFFiller will create incredible synergies.

How to digitally sign the pdf document?

I'm not sure if it is possible, but I think that it's not. You could ask your local printer for a pdf of it, but that isn't going to do anything either. It might be possible for us to make a pdf for you but I don't know that yet. In theory you could get an ebook signed by an author and a publisher to make a copy for the customer. That would require some extra effort, though, because it would not be a pdf but a copy of the ebook itself. That might work, but I haven't had a chance to try it out.
