[Music] aloha welcome back to smart money monday because of what's going on right now we're more focused than ever on staying safe well there's one other thing we need to keep safe and that would be our important financial documents and to help us learn more about this important topic we have keen santos from mecca boy hi hey steve all right so why is it so important for our families to to safeguard these documents yeah steve so you know anytime we have a natural disaster or an earthquake tsunami or right now with hovind there's a lot of uncertainty out there and one of the things that can help us kind of ease our concerns is having quick access to all our important documentation can which talk which documents are we talking about first and foremost you know your identification records right so you want to be able to prove who you are in your identity um otherwise i can make a lot of different transactions difficult yeah so we're talking about basics like passports and driver's licenses exactly yeah passports driver's license but even things like your social security card birth certificate marriage license you have a secondary id like a state id that's going to be a great thing to pack up as well so you have access to that okay so what other documents are essential um yeah so even even our insurance documents you know um whether it's your home insurance auto insurance um while you can access a lot of these things online nowadays um it's just great to have access to a paper copy as well in case you don't need to file any claims financial records yeah so uh same thing get all those online but maybe a good tip would be to kind of log down all your different bank account numbers or credit card numbers loan or mortgage on numbers if you're not going to actually keep the paper statements but you want to just have quick access to that information that that's kind of a long list is there anything else that people need to think about protecting uh yeah for sure there's um the legal documents so things like your your trust or your will or your power of attorney those can be so important not only to safeguard them but to also let your family members know where they can access those documents um you know someone does pass away or some unforeseen circumstance they're going to need all that documentation to be able to go to the bank and handle a lot of their financial affairs yeah so the main thing here is just be prepared uh yeah pretty much and you know at least if you have that box checked you can sleep easier at night and it'll be one area of your life that you're not worried about uh change and easiness yeah control what you can control and this is definitely one of those things keane thank you for your help this morning we appreciate it my pleasure good to see you steve all right you too and uh thanks for watching smart money money [Music]
