Recover byline radio
hi everyone and welcome to another episode of mr. Carlson's lab I was recently on in auction site and I found this really neat looking old bakelite radio so this is one of the few bakelite radios that I haven't worked on before so I found this really intriguing so I did a little bit more research on this and it looks to be a really great restoration and repair candidate to share with you guys right here so I drove an awful long ways and pick the thing up and it's in really nice physical condition so it's still in the box with the newspapers that the guy had packed in there to keep it safe during the travel so I'm gonna take it out of the box and put it up on the bench here and we're going to go through this together now I haven't looked at this thing since I looked at it in the box when I purchased this thing so it hasn't even been out of that box yet so we're going to discover all the interesting little things that have been done to it on the way possibly or maybe it's even just left stock hopefully it's all complete it sure looks nice on the outside so let's get started let's bring this thing back to life again here's this really neat looking little Belmonte radio receiver it almost looks like it has a waistline looks like a belt on the bottom and then it kind of flares above that Watts a character lots of neat looking lines all over the place even what they've done with a little speaker grille here looks really good so see if the tuning works it does and it looks like it's one to one probably one to one see if the buttons move this around at all oh they do and you can see the the knob moving here as well that looks really nice nice and smooth this works yeah not bad feels pretty solid so so far things are looking really good the little plastic window on the front here is looking really nice a little bit of polish would clean that right up doesn't look like there's any dents or you know nobody's pushed it pushed in on it or anything like that these are really easy to destroy you know just a little bit too much of a push and you get a crease in it and it's like you just can't get rid of it the gold in behind here looks really really nice I sure hope that's backlit that would look really neat if it was so what I'm going to do is turn the radio around and we'll take a look at the back side this is the back side and check out the scary line cord look at this it's got these little insulators that slide up and down here but there's nothing underneath these so I think...
