I'm pretty sure this is not something you are thought.its a decision you make but let me tell you what worked for me.I was in your position sometime back. my desktop was so messy that sometime I'll create a new folder on the desktop, move files and folders into that folder just so I can have more space on the desktop to mess with.At the height of my addiction, I would change the resolution of the monitor so the icons will be small and I can have more space to mess with.Then one day I decided this was ugly;- I moved all the files and folders on the desktop into a single folder still on the desktop.- I then deleted all the files and folders I wasn't using, (still leaving them in the recycle bin for four months jx in case..but I never really needed a single one of them.)-created a new folder in my documents and named it Max; this is where all documents went- psd,.pdf, cdr, txt, docx etc etc. don't create a new folder for every document format you'll get bored soon - if they end up a lot, you can always sort them by document type for easy access)-with 3 partitions for my drive I named one Hollywood; yes that's where all the movies went..I named the other PRADA (Personal Records And Digital Archives).it had 3 folders, music, files and programs.- programs that I use more often (wampserver, eclipse, NotePad++, Photoshop and chrome all had shortcuts placed on the task bar, with the rest launched from the start menu. No shortcuts on desktop.-now only two items are left on my desktop: dropbox folder and recycle bin both placed O'the right hand corner near the clock- to crown my effort, I went through my girlfriend's pictures and picked one of cutest ones. You know the one that will likely garner 100 comments from her "friends" on Facebook?
