It depends in part on what the surface is: painted metal, plastic, rubber, carpet…If it’s like indoor/outdoor carpet, you might be able to remove the carpet with the puddle in it, pour it off, then take it to a car wash and spray it out with the high pressure hose on “soap” setting.If it’s painted metal or another surface the oil can easily be removed from, you can get some “loose absorbent for oil based liquids” like one of the products below (available at car parts places and janitorial supply stores) spread it on the oil and work it in a bit and it will be absorbed. Then use the vacuum at a car wash to remove it. Then go over it again with a damp soapy cloth to remove the oil film.

If you are not sophisticated with taxes, DON'T try this form. You can get yourself in a lot of trouble.  Get a good CPA or EA.  The time and effort it will take you to figure this thing out is not worth it. If you value your time at more than the minimum wage, you will save time and money by hiring a professional.

Depends on what the carpet is made of. Most synthetic carpets are made from nylon, polypropylene, or less often polyester.Just in the most general of terms. If the carpet you have, is the carpet that was originally in the house when it was built and it is cut pile (tufts of carpet sticking straight up from the backing) then it is probably nylon, and you have a chance of cleaning it up. If you have not scrubbed or tracked it any deeper than it penatrated originally.If it is the original carpet and it is loop pile (small closed loops sticking up from the backing) it is more than likely polypropylene aka Olefin. Polypropylene is a oil based plasic that will actually absorb the oil. Not going to be cleanable at all. Kool-Aid would have been a better bet on this carpet.Of course there can be many variables on the carpet type im giving you the two most common. Which hopefully includes you. If you know that its a natural fiber like wool, or less likely cotton, or silk (usually found in area rugs or bound rugs) get it professionally cleaned you can cause dye bleeds, shrinkage and all manner of other problems on these materials.What you will need:Dawn dish soapTowelsShop vac or any kind of wet vac.Hot water and I mean hot! ( heat raises the chemical action of surfactants)MethodMix very liberal amounts of dish soap with hot water.Apply to oil spot only, with a squeeze bottle, or pour directly on. You dont want a bunch of extra soap residue to clean later.Thoroughly saturate the spot.Remove with solution from the carpet with shop vac. NO SCRUBBING PUT THR BRUSH AWAY! YOU WILL ONLY EMBED THE OIL INTO THE MATERIAL. IF IT IS NOT ALREADY EMBEDDED.Inspect spot. Is the spot less? Is the oil less? Is the spot smaller? If so repeat step 4 until it is gone or no longer removing anything.Rinse the spot. Again using hot water NO SOAP! At this point you will have removed all the oil that you can. You are now rinsing the soap out of the carpet. Soap residue is the main cause of the “reappearing spot", soap is sticky, as soil gets trapped in it, the soap piles up unable to move, causing a “spot to reappear".Once thoroughly rinsed and vacumed use your towels to work the spot dry. Try to get as much moisture out as possible working from the outside of the spot inwards.Just to reiterate what i said earlier your chances of removing this spot are VERY low on olefin aka polypropylene carpets. Chances are slightly better on a nylon carpet but not much more.I wish you luck my friend.

Very likely if you don't mind smelling Coke for a day. Coke is highly acidic and will dissolve oils of all types. Simply pour it straight on to the stained area and let it soak a day. Then steam clean the area and no or more stain or smell. The smell without the stain comes from left behind oil.
