What is it like to be in a children's psychiatric hospital?
When I was 14 I was severely depressed and tried to commit suicide. Thankfully, I failed. Because of my age, the state ordered that I spend 10 days in a psychiatric hospital for children. I was moved to a facility in another state (oddly enough, that's what our insurance would pay for) and put into a ward with troubled children, ages 4 to 14. I was like a grown up, to most of the children there.Overall.. it was eye opening. From my perspective, at the time, anyways. I was placed in a room with another girl roughly my age. She still wet the bed. That was shocking to me. I was given a pencil to write down some things I like and didn't like, on an intake form. I sat on the couch, filled the paper out, and turned it in. But I lost the pencil. I'm not sure how. By then, the hospital I had been in for the overdose had started me on a heavy dose of antidepressants. I lost a lot of things during that time. The staff went nuts. They searched me, my things, my room. Called my parents to ask how worried they should be about me "stealing" the pencil. Then they told me that other kids could try to hurt me with the pencil, or hurt themselves. I guess they thought they would scare me into turning it in. But I truly didn't have it. I was banished to my room for the remainder of the first day until they found the pencil under a couch. Most of the children there were long term residents, and so they went to school during the daytime in another building. Since I was a short term resident, I attended different groups and played video games like Spyro. In one of the groups we were talking about cutting and self harm. We were asking each other about our scars, where they came from, why we did it, etc. After asking one girl where her oddly large scar came from on her wrist, she told me that her birth mother bit her when she was just a baby. After that she was put into a group home and adopted shortly after. She developed behavior issues as a young child and by the time she was 11 they dropped her off at this "camp" and never came back for her. I am sure there was more to her story than she told me, but in general there were a lot of kids there who had very hard lives. Another little girl, Charlotte.. I'll never forget her. She was gorgeous. Dark skin, soft curly hair. She was about 7. Her mom came to visit every night and would give her a bath. She told me that either her mother or a staff worker had to give her a bath still, because when she's alone the voices would tell her to go under the water. The poor little girl fought voices all day, telling her to hurt herself. At only 7. I remember several kids being put into the "time out room" (padded room) for misbehaving and they would scream and wail for HOURS! Throwing themselves against the walls, pounding on the doors.. all the padding in the world didn't block their screams. At 14 I couldn't understand why they were screaming. No one came the first time you screamed, why would they come on the 10th? During breakfast one day, I saw a 4 year old boy, Brandon, throw a temper tantrum and try to attack a staff member with a fork. Several grown men had to hold down his thrashing limbs while he was injected with a tranquilizer. He told me later how badly he felt, but he couldn't stop himself. I met a boy close my to my age, probably about 13, who had lied about trying to commit suicide to keep his dad from getting in trouble. He said his dad gave him some of his pills, and he overdosed. His dad told him to lie, or else he would be taken into state custody. So he did.I was just depressed. My boyfriend broke up with me earlier that year. I was spending too much time in AOL chat rooms and not with my friends. My sleep schedule was off, and I made an irrational choice. I was completely unaware of the very hard life that some kids were living. I'm not sure "eye opening" is strong enough of a term for my experience there. While I was elated to leave after the 10 days, I have thought of those children often through out the years. They would all be adults now. I hope they have had been able to move on from that terrible experience. Edit 4/15/16 - I can not believe how many views this has gotten! Over 15,000 people have read my story, and that's amazing! I hope that 15,000 more people now have a greater understanding of mental health care and how serious these situations can be, even from a young age.

Do military members have to pay any fee for leave or fiancee forms?
NOOOOOOO. You are talking to a military romance scammer. I received an email from the US Army that directly answers your question that is pasted below please keep reading.I believe you are the victim of a military Romance Scam whereas the person you are talking to is a foreign national posing as an American Soldier claiming to be stationed overseas on a peacekeeping mission. That's the key to the scam they always claim to be on a peacekeeping mission.Part of their scam is saying that they have no access to their money that their mission is highly dangerous. If your boyfriend girlfriend/future husband/wife is asking you to do the following or has exhibited this behavior, it is a most likely a scam:Moves to private messaging site immediately after meeting you on Facebook or SnapChat or Instagram or some dating or social media site. Often times they delete the site you met them on right after they asked you to move to a more private messaging siteProfesses love to you very quickly & seems to quote poems and song lyrics along with using their own sort of broken language, as they profess their love and devotion quickly. They also showed concern for your health and love for your family.Promises marriage as soon as he/she gets to state for leave that they asked you to pay for. They Requests money (wire transfers) and Amazon, iTune ,Verizon, etc gift cards, for medicine, religious practices, and leaves to come home, internet access, complete job assignments, help sick friend, get him out of trouble, or anything that sounds fishy. The military does provide all the soldier needs including food medical Care and transportation for leave. Trust me, I lived it, you are probably being scammed. I am just trying to show you examples that you are most likely being connned.Below is an email response I received after I sent an inquiry to the US government when I discovered I was scammed. I received this wonderful response back with lots of useful links on how to find and report your scammer. And how to learn more about Romance Scams.Right now you can also copy the picture he gave you and do a google image search and you will hopefully see the pictures of the real person he is impersonating. this doesn't always work and take some digging. if you find the real person you can direct message them and alert them that their image is being used for scamming.Good Luck to you and I'm sorry this may be happening to you. please continue reading the government response I received below it's very informative. You have contacted an email that is monitored by the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command. Unfortunately, this is a common concern. We assure you there is never any reason to send money to anyone claiming to be a Soldier online. If you have only spoken with this person online, it is likely they are not a U.S. Soldier at all. If this is a suspected imposter social media profile, we urge you to report it to that platform as soon as possible. I'm a 17 year old male and I already have (premature) wrinkles. Is there anything I can do at all to get rid of them?
There are a number of reasons why you might start to see wrinkles on your forehead or other areas of your face at such a young age.Genetics could be a factor if one of your parents saw early signs of aging. It could also be an indication of your lifestyle.Think about how you live your life every day.Do you smoke? If you do quit and remove yourself from areas that are filled with secondhand smoke.Do you indulge in alcohol or drug use? If so, stop now before it becomes a lifelong habit that ruins your life.Do you get a solid 7–9 hours of sleep every night? If you don't, try shutting down your computer, cell phone, iPad or any other device at least 30 minutes before you go to bed.Are you under a lot of stress? Stress can play a big role in its effects on your overall health to include the condition of your skin. YouTube is a good resource for techniques to help you get through a stressful day.Do you have a consistent skin care program that includes twice daily cleansing, toning and moisturizing? If not, it's never too late to start.Do you get enough water every day? If you don't, remember that water keeps your skin hydrated which helps reduce the signs of aging.Do you have healthy eating habits? If you can, make small adjustments in your daily diet: eat leafy green vegetables and limit your intake of sugary or salty food and sodas. Some advice I would give you about skincare….If you don't have a skin care program, begin one today. It doesn't need to be expensive it just needs to be consistent. From cleansing to moisturizing you need to make sure the products you select are made for your skin type.Use a moisturizer that is labeled “broad spectrum” and has an SPF 30. If you sweat a lot try finding one that is also water resistant. If you are prone to break outs then you want to find a moisturizer with all of the same benefits but one that is made for oily skin.Neutrogena makes a men's skincare line. Aveeno also makes good skin care products but not one specifically for men. If your skin is prone to breakouts or you have oily skin you might look at Clearasil and Cetaphil. One last piece of advice that is overlooked when asked about premature aging is “invest in a pair of sunglasses that have the best quality lenses you can afford and wear them every day. “Sunglasses will help prevent eyestrain but they also reduce the need to constantly squint which over time contributes to forming lines on your forehead and around your eyes. This is probably more advice than you wanted, but I hope that you find something in what I've written that will help you to tame the lines in your skin. You may not be able to get rid of them but by having a consistent twice daily skin care program designed for your skin type and wearing good quality sunglasses, you lessen the chance of creating new lines at a young age and over time you may see softening of the lines you already have. Thanks for the A2A and Good Luck with your skin care program. If you need more info let me know.Carol-**- To Anonymous: You’re very welcome.-**-

How can I fill out Google's intern host matching form to optimize my chances of receiving a match?
I was selected for a summer internship 2016.I tried to be very open while filling the preference form: I choose many products as my favorite products and I said I'm open about the team I want to join.I even was very open in the location and start date to get host matching interviews (I negotiated the start date in the interview until both me and my host were happy.) You could ask your recruiter to review your form (there are very cool and could help you a lot since they have a bigger experience).Do a search on the potential team. Before the interviews, try to find smart question that you are going to ask for the potential host (do a search on the team to find nice and deep questions to impress your host). Prepare well your resume. You are very likely not going to get algorithm/data structure questions like in the first round. It's going to be just some friendly chat if you are lucky. If your potential team is working on something like machine learning, expect that they are going to ask you questions about machine learning, courses related to machine learning you have and relevant experience (projects, internship). Of course you have to study that before the interview. Take as long time as you need if you feel rusty. It takes some time to get ready for the host matching (it's less than the technical interview) but it's worth it of course.

I'm 15 and I have a lot of acne. My acne starts to gets worse a couple of days before my period. I know it is normal but how can I minimize it?
There is some really good information already within the many answers given. However the single best piece of advice I have seen among all the answers is:See a dermatologist. If you can’t get in to see a dermatologist, your second best person to see is a licensed esthetician, preferably one with successful experience helping clients with acne.No one can actually tell you how to deal with your acne. There are far too many factors to acne, what causes it, what makes it worse, what may or may not be effective. No one online can determine if a particular product may not be suited for you, as they do not have access to your medical history, medications (even over the counter) that you may be taking, they do not have any idea regarding your lifestyle etc. A skin specialist will take in all that type of information and actually examine your skin. A good one will do so under lighted magnification, and use both visual and tactile clues from touching your skin, to come up with a recommended plan to deal with your acne. It is likely to be a combination of facial treatments, home care regimen (and products), possibly prescription medication, and possible minor changes to lifestyle. For example I had a client who was an athlete in high school, who would go hours after a practice/game/workout before cleansing her skin. One of my recommendations for her was to have some cotton rounds moistened with toner or witch hazel, kept in a container in her gym bag. That way she could wipe off the sweat and grime immediately instead of letting it dry in place, causing clogs and irritation. Along with a fairly moderate skin care routine, she was able to clear her skin pretty well within a few weeks. However if I had not actually seen her, examined her skin, filled out an intake form, I wouldn’t have been able to properly help her. And a huge portion of clearing breakout prone skin is being diligent with home care. If you aren’t faithful in caring for your skin at home, with the right products for your skin type and condition, your skin will never improve.
