This person is the same person that would be in the best possible position to help. Why do I say that? Simple. Letter carriers are the FIRST person that receives written notification that someone has moved. That's even before the change of address confirmation has been sent. We usually have the COA (Change of Address) notification within 1–2 days.Talk with the carrier and see if the previous resident put a change of address in for an Individual or a Family. IF it was an individual, then it is a bit easier. The letter carrier has a few steps that must be done in conjunction with a supervisor to correct this. IF it was a family change, it may prove more difficult. As for you, I would suggest that all correspondence use your legal name….First Name, Middle Name (if applicable), Last Name and any suffix (if applicable). This will definitely help distinguish two separate individuals.I would advise to allow anywhere between 3–10 business days after speaking with the regular letter carrier before speaking with the local supervisor (at your assigned post office). I said I could do 1 or 2 weeknights and alternating Saturdays and Sundays. Instead I was scheduled for 7 hour shifts for every Saturday and Sunday and no weeknights . Ok, I could deal with working 7 days a week straight, if that was all, just to make a little extra money for a short time. But that wasn't all…I quickly learned that Dollar Tree employees are paid minimum wage and treated like dirt. I would be scheduled with only 1 other employee at a time, who was either the store manager or assistant manager that I would only see for 5 minutes at the beginning of my shift. I would be checked in, given the till drawer with only $20 in change in it, then directed to an understocked register and given a list of tasks to accomplish, usually including a pallet or 2 of stock. The manager would vanish, only to make brief reappearances when summoned and berate me for summoning her.I'm no stranger to retail— I knew i wouldn’t be idly sitting behind the register. But working at the dollar store was awful. And the clientele was a motley crew too. This was difficult to discover as the USPS online form for address change doesn't allow writing in a international address, nor does the physical PS Form 3575 they offer as part of a moving packet. Provide direction on how and where you need mail forwarded. If you are an American, how far back do you have to go in your family tree before you get to someone whose first language was not English?
Back in 1991, before Ancestry dot com was a thing, I got interested in genealogy… my family’s, in particular. So, I set out on a mission to find out all I could, and put together a family tree. Less than two years after the World Wide Web was created (aka: WWW). So, I wasn’t really on the internet yet. I had to do it old skool; although I did use a computer to draw the actual “tree”, as there were no genealogical tree templates that I knew of, yet. I sent out a form letter to every single person I knew, who was even remotely related to me. I even had to take a quick crash course in Russian Cyrillic, so that I could communicate with my relatives behind the Iron Curtain (which was half of them, in various countries). The curtain fell the following year, which made communication much easier, but at the time, I wasn’t even sure if any of my correspondence would get there and back. Amazingly, it all did. I sent out these form letters with pre-drawn, empty “trees”, for everyone to fill out. I also included a self-addressed stamped envelope, to make things as easy as possible for everyone.By the autumn of that year, I had received nearly all my templates back, all filled out as best as everyone could manage. Then began the task of making sense out of all of them, and compiling them into one massive tree. I ended up with nearly 600 people to list. For every person, I listed 6 bits of information: Name, place & year of birth, place & year of death, and their occupation. It took me about 6 months, but by Christmas, I had a surprisingly full family tree. I printed these all out on 17″ x 24″ sheets of parchment, rolled them up into scrolls, and handed them out to everybody as Christmas gifts. The late 1700’s was as far as I could get back for my family. My daughter, on the other hand, through her mom, I could trace back through Stephen Austin, one of the founders of Texas, and then all the way back to Mary Queen of Scots.As far as my family… they were refugees after WWII. They lost everything there, and both my father, and my mother came to America as Displaced Persons, although they came separately. My father alone, and my mother with her parents and 9 siblings. Boy, were they mad after that. Then the harassment really began.We’ve had the police called on us for trimming bushes and a tree, because they claimed he was “staring” at them amongst other ridiculous things.The 4 angry little neighbors went door to door through the neighborhood to badmouth my fiancee that he was a “menace to society” and a “criminal” and a “bigot”-none of which is true. They said since I was the president of the HOA I needed to be removed because I brought him into the neighborhood and didn’t do anything about it. Myself and our friend, who was on the board as well, were both recalled and kicked off the board. Three out of the 4 got themselves replaced to the board and now have made it there sad little life work to harass us.We have been recorded wherever we talk, walk or go in the neighborhood. We recently received “cease and desist” letters from the management company because one of them claimed my fiancee was walking across the street and obstructed one of the jerks from driving down the road. Really? How? did he throw himself on the car? no………..They also have ordered us to remove a donated firepit (a silly propane fire feature table you find at any restaurant/hotel/bar) and chairs from a common area that we set up to bring the neighborhood together for social gatherings. The worst part is, the neighbor who started all this, he’s the one who put together the original petition to allow it! Now that he hates us and is on the board, he is demanding it be removed What a hypocrite!Most recently, my finacee was at the mailbox with another neighbor. He knew she has signed the petition to have me removed from the board. He asked her why she would do that. Especially since he had helped her with power washing her deck and some other things around her condo. She said it was the “principal” of it. They talked/disagreed and then my fiancee said “whatever “and “have a good day” and walked away. Her husband comes down to our house thumping his chest and fisting his hands yelling that my fiancee better never “f%&king” talk to his wife without him around ever again. They had words. They then called the merry band of 4 jerks as to what they should do. They were advised by the HOA BOARD to file a protective order and disorderly conduct.
