Energy Conservation: How many barrels of oil does it take to build a Chevy Volt?
I don't have the precise answer. I have read that it takes about the equivalent of 325 gallons of gasoline to produce a hybrid car. Battery production is quite energy intensive and the Volt has more battery capacity than a hybrid so maybe 350 gallons of gasoline. About 19 gallons of gasoline can be derived from a barrel of oil so, if I'm roughly correct, you can expect that it takes about 19 barrels of oil (350/19) to do a Volt.

When a very long oil pipeline such as Keystone XL is built, do they have to fill the entire length of the pipeline with oil before they can start letting it out of the downstream end of the pipeline?
Let me correct the impression that you simply turn on a valve on one end and the wait for product at the other end after doing integrity testing and it is startup day.In brief, a device called a 'pig' is used to plug the pipe and perform various other functions such as monitoring and cleaning. On startup day you may have something like:crude : pig : crude : pig : nitrogen : water : pig : waterThe reason for this is to avoid the creation of static currents and possibly creating explosive mixes and contacts.A compressed pocket of air or vapor can cause an explosion in your storage tanks as well.So in addition to travel time for the product, the pig can be used to control many variables in th pipe.Yes pigs have sensors and transmit all the time including video. Yes the pig is controllable and moves along the pipe. There is also a secondary recovery path near the destination for the pigs to exit.

When is Earth supposed to run out of oil?
The amount of oil in the earth is essentially limitless. We tend to grossly over estimate mans ability to make an impact on the worlds resources . This “ability” is greatly exaggerated by so called environmentalists and other hand ringers that constantly predict doom and gloom for the earth and its people .What they forget is that mankind has proved to be extremely resilient and will readily and successfully adapt to any crises or shortage that comes along especially if it arrives at a slow pace as oil depletion (not run out!) approaches. No , the oil will not run out but it will get more expensive and this is the true driving force for what the world chooses for its energy supply , cost!Oil will go up in price and electric power for transportation and virtually everything will become a viable cost effective alternative .Yes I predict the world one day will be solely electric powered . All the other alternatives are just to messy and complicated and inefficient and will fall away , including hydrocarbons except coal. Coal will probably be used for the next 100 years in clean burning plants producing electricity , the world has a LOT of coal ! And oil will be conserved for the plastics industry.Below is a picture of the Globe of earth with New Zealand centered . In the middle of the North Island of New Zealand is a Lake , Lake Taupo (its actually a very dangerous super volcano) but apart from that its a relatively large lake with an area of approx 616 sq km and an average depth of 190 meters , its outlined in orange, the tiny dot you can just make out .If the lake was drained of all its water it would be capable of holding ALL the oil man has extracted and used on earth since the beginning of the oil age 1890 till the year 2020 , around 900 Trillion liters give or take 100 Trillion . Yes , that's a lot of oil but compare it to the size of the earths crust and area , do you really think we have made an impact on the possible reserves ? What about the deep ocean reserves which we do not have any reason to go for yet but are known to be vast .Fig1.Fig2 NZ from an altitude of 3660 km , can you see Lake Taupo ?Fig 3 NZ , North Island From 500 Km altitude , Lake Taupo in middle .Fig 4 Lake Taupo

Why do I have to pull the wick out further to get the same size of flame when I fill my oil lamp with vegetable oil instead of lamp oil?
Lamp oil is a petroleum, and more flammable. It also saves your wick by burning fast.Vegetable oil is simply used for food. You're facing a possible fire if you don't listen to that point.Burning vegetable oil is going to build up on the lamp and other things, causing a flammable substance called creosote to build up.Use the right fluid.

I own a 2008 Honda Civic. When going to do an oil change, I felt air pressure out of the oil fill area. Is this sign of the engine being worn out?
the engine was running when you put your hand over the oil filler? did you cover the filler completely allowing pressure to build? Or just feel air pulsing out against your skin as it the engine was running?some pressure is normal. The Valve Cover has a vent on top, attached to a tube. This captures any Hydro Carbon vapours (crank case ventilation) that would normally escape from the valve cover and go into the atmosphere. The Positive Crank Case Ventilation or PCV for short is part of the EVAP system. Or Evaporative Emissions System. These vapours are filtered and re introduced into the air going in to the engine to be burned with the gasoline. if you had excessive Crank Case pressure, an oil leak would develop from the weaker gaskets on the engine, such as the Valve Cover gasket. So, if you don't have any noticeable oil leaks coming from the Valve Cover gasket, this is Normal Crank Case pressure. Your engine is not worn out.Your Ford F-150 may have a bigger vent for Crank Case pressure (reducing the pressure) or may even vent this pressure to atmosphere. Instead of capturing the Hydro Carbons and combusting them. Honda engines are quite Eco friendly. I'm willing to bet the Honda EVAP system is doing a better job at recycling otherwise un used Hydro Carbons than the Ford is. I wouldn't worry about it.

A cubical tank with an edge length of 20m is filled with 5.75 liters of oil. How much more oil is needed to fill the tank completely?
Let’s presume you are defining the length of the inside edges of the cubical tank. Its empty volume is then 20m x 20m x20m = 8000 cubic meters. Each cubic meter is equivalent to 1000 litres so you multiply 8000 by 1000 to get 8 million litres. Since you say that it has already been ‘filled’ with 5.75 litres, the remaining volume is 8 Million minus 5.75 = 7,999,994.25 litres. In reality, it is almost impossible to create a perfect cube of this size whose walls do not deflect outward somewhat as it is filled. In even a rib reinforced tank of these dimensions, you are almost certainly going to get more than 8 Million more litres due to bulging of the walls.

How many liters of engine oil does it take to fill a Rouser 135’s tank?
Your best chance of getting the correct answer is to simply read the owners manual. I know it's not as fancy as using a computer/cell phone to access a web site so you could ask millions of anonymous people what they think your motorcycle's oil capacity is, but, spending 38 seconds to open the manual, look in the index for specifications, and turning to the page listed, and then read the spec shown for oil capacity. It took longer for you to read this than it takes to read the manual.By the way, you should have read the manual before operating the bike for the first time.
