JumpinessOften I appear to be doing nothing, when I'm actually mulling over some program flow in my head, or wondering what went wrong with that last SQL query, or how to break down that new proposed functionality into bite-sized pieces. Taking things too literallyYou guys have probably heard the joke about the programmer's wife, eggs and milk. Trust me, it's so real it's not even funny. For example, during interviews - Interviewer: Do you know how Paypal's IPN works?Me: Yes.(awkward silence)Interviewer: (patiently) I mean, I'd like you to explain the how Paypal's IPN works.Me: Oh! Right. Here goes...Luckily, interviewer was a fellow techie. And understood that I wasn't trying to be funny, or evasive.3. Expecting things to be literalI tend to get frustrated when I ask what I thought was a reasonably straightforward question with a Y/N answer, and someone gives me a long answer without actually answering my question.Maybe it's the result of writing so many functions and methods. You can define what output the method gives you, if at all. If you want a true or false, you define the return value as a Boolean. If you want a line of text, you make the method return a String.Ah, but human beings aren't wired that way.

My surname according to the passport is Madurai Ananthakrishnan. When I first visited the US, I was filling out the form they hand out on the aeroplane before you land. Since there was a fancy inflight video instructing us on how to fill the form, I was taking it very seriously. This is when I realized the boxes in the surname column ran out and I was very worried about it. The forms were not that big a deal, but that's when I seriously wished they had clubbed my middle name (Madurai) with that of the first name like how it is supposed to be. It is extremely difficult when you are trying to resolve an issue over phone. Customer services with westerners get so tired typing it out- Imagine spelling out M for Mother, A for Alpha and so on, especially on an international call.I think it is a big inconvenience in all aspects to elaborate initials and make your name horrendously complicated. A meek M.V Varadharajan could transform into a formidable Manamadurai Venkatasubramanian Varadharajan in the process of expansion. I suppose our naming schema was not meant for western life.It used to be a common practice in Tamil families to name their children after their parents which could run into a recursive loop. For example, my father's name is Ananthakrishnan Srinivasan while his father's name is Srinivasan Ananthakrishnan and so on. I broke the loop by being a girl. Now people have ridiculously complicated names that fuses in all the fashionable names that they like. Add a dab of numerology and you will end up something like "Aaaarya", "Rawi". It is very important to decide what you want to be called as and then put that in your passport. Else, you will have tiring, bloodsucking bureaucratic hassles later, if you need to change your name in your passport or visa as Ramakrishnan Krishnan has mentioned in his answer.That said, there are so many celebrities with Village Name & Father's first name as their surnames. Example: M. S. Subbulakshmi, Vilayanur S. Ramachandran. Why, there is even P. Sundararajan who later came to be known as Sundar Pichai.

Constantly.In 11th grade, we had to write a parody of a famous work. We would then have to read the entire thing in class. Most students parodied a short story, or a poem.I parodied Hamlet. The whole play. Every line.I called it “Omelet, Prince of Eggmark”We performed it in class. It took 4 days.Oh, and there was the time I found out my teacher’s password and used it to change his alert sound to “Joe MacDonald would not approve of this” in my very distinctive voice. I then changed his password so that when he tried to log in the next morning, his computer repeatedly told him (in my voice…and I sat in the front row) that Joe MacDonald (my friend and notorious super-nerd) would not approve.Or when I taught History class because I bet my teacher I could get 100% on a quiz before he finished passing them out. Nailed that lesson.Oh, and the time my physics teacher was filling out the form for students going to Science Olympiad and I told him my address was 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. But I spelled it out (one-six-zero-zero P-E-N-N-…) so he totally went with it.Or when I learned how to make the same whistle as the wind would make in that same physics classroom. When that whistle started up, my physics teacher frantically closed the windows because the sound drove him nuts. It took him a couple of days to figure out I was making the sound.But my favorite had to be Spanish lab. We had this classroom where everyone wore headphones with a microphone. We all had to speak along with what was being said, and she could randomly make one person in the room audible to everyone else.So I practiced impersonating the voice of the person who did the Spanish voice. I remember it like it was yesterday… “Listo? Empiece. Numero Uno….”I kinda knew she’d pick me first, and when she did she was convinced that the machine was broken. She kept coming back to me and hearing not my voice but the voice of the Spanish narrator.Got out of a whole day of Spanish homework thanks to that little stunt.So, I love it when students troll me. But only when they do it in an intelligent and creative way. That’s the gold right there.Looking back on it, I guess I started my career in devastations younger than I thought…

While it’s considered rude to walk up to an overweight person and comment on their weight, most people consider it “fair game” to comment on the weight of a naturally skinny woman.  My height is 5'4" and weight is 46 kgs therefore, I find this question apt for me to answer. But since many have already answered this, I will give it a shot in a funnier way exemplifying the daily struggles. :P______________________________________________________________________Aside from being told “you need more meat on your bones” and being compared to a twig and toothpicks, there are a variety of other problems only skinny girls understand.Strangers asking “Do you eat?” and having people tell you to eat something all the time.Hearing people would “love to have your problem” and that you have no reason to be insecure or complain because you’re skinny.People joking that you’ll blow away in the wind.Skinny legs make your feet look huge.Uncushioned chairs and benches hurt your buttbone.Real pain is getting stuck between two fat ass in a car.Not being able to donate blood because you don’t signNow the 110 pound weight requirement.People saying they’re scared to hug you because they might break you.Always needing beltsThe assumption that you have an eating disorder, as if looks can diagnose mental health.People joking about your weight, as if it’s not just as hurtful as making a fat joke to someone who is overweight.Wearing the same size bra you wore in middle school. :PNo one believing when you say you love food or that you eat a lot and being asked to prove it all of the time.Needing drawstrings on yoga pants because the elastic won’t hold them up.Not being able to gain weight no matter what you do, and people rolling their eyes when you voice this frustration to them.Feeling cold All.The.Time.Not having the curves to fill out some fashionable clothes and being told “0” isn’t a real size.And people insisting on picking you up only to comment on how light you are.People asking you why you workout, as if being skinny means you’re automatically healthy or not into athletics.Being told “real women have curves” and “guys don’t like stick figures,” as if you have to shame one type of body to celebrate another.Explaining that skinny is sexy.
