How much does it cost to start a 501(c)3 in NYC?
According to the Department of State, Division of Corporations, State Records, and UCC for New York, you must pay the statutory filing fee of $75 (as of July 2017) along with a small fee to check name availability.Filling out your non-profit forms accurately is very, very important. Ultimately, what you put in your documents may affect whether you are (or will remain) tax-exempt. Now, with that being said, your state documents aren’t the only documents you must complete. You must also fill out an Application for Recognition of Exemption with the IRS. Some non-profits are eligible to fill out a streamlined version, but you should talk with an attorney or tax professional to determine which one you should complete. You may also be required to obtain certain permits or licenses in New York (at either the city or the state level). This depends on what your non-profit will do or sell in order to raise money. Without the right permits or licenses, your non-profit could be shut down. You also need to write bylaws and appoint directors to the non-profit. Directors are important and should be chosen with care. They make important business and financial decisions for your non-profit. They will also officially adopt the bylaws at the first board meeting. The bylaws explain how the non-profit will be ran.Because non-profits must remain in compliance with state and federal law, it’s a good idea to first speak with an attorney and maybe even consider allowing the attorney to fill out the documents. It’s really worth the price since the tax-exempt status of the non-profit can be affected by a mistake. If you’d like to speak with an experienced attorney, check out LawTrades. Our legal marketplace has helped connect many entrepreneurs with experienced, non-profit attorneys to get them up and running. Hope you give us a try!

What is it like in Tokyo, Japan?
It’s very different than living in any other city I’ve lived in (Boston, Los Angeles, and San Francisco). Here are some unique things I noticed, in no particular order:Having 24-hour convenience stores for food and basic necessities makes life very… convenient.Trash and recycling needs to be thoroughly sorted by type (e.g. combustible, non-combustible, PET bottle etc…) before taken out on its designated day. Failure to sort your trash properly will result in your trash being put back on your doorstep :( I never figured out how they could tell whose bag of trash was whose. There aren’t very many public trash cans so you need to carry your trash around until you got home to dispose of it properly.Subways and buses are frequent and almost always run on schedule. Even a few minutes of delay can cause restlessness.Riding on the subway is very quiet. Chatting loudly and talking on your phone is discouraged.Sexual harassment on subways is not uncommon. During rush hour, busy subways lines usually provide a female only car.People won’t tell you if you’re in their way or inconveniencing them. If you’re blocking the “walk” side of an escalator, people usually just wait (impatiently) behind you until you notice and move.I always carried cash with me. A lot of local stores don’t accept credit card. You go to international supermarkets to buy American and European goods.Meat is expensive. Some areas are extremely hipster and very obsessed with coffee. (I guess this is not that different from cities I’ve lived in…)It’s almost always acceptable (and normal) to drink beer with dinner.Restaurants don’t serve wine often, but if they do, you can only choose between white or red. You only see wine selections at wine bars or high class restaurants.Usually only men go by themselves to ramen and beef bowl shops. Going in by yourself as a female can be quite uncomfortable. Lately though, ramen stores targeted to females (modern decor and healthier/“lighter” flavors) have been popping up and are becoming more popular. On the other hand, going to a cake shop by yourself as a female is normal and acceptable. It is pretty uncommon to see a guy eat at a cake shop, let alone by himself.Saying or hearing things like “Because I’m a man…” or “Because you are a woman…” is pretty common and acceptable, I guess. You can microwave the plastic wrap.I would refer to myself and the person I’m talking to in the third person.Service is great. Retail and restaurant workers generally treat their guests very well and are very attentive. For example, if you buy sweets from the food level of a large department store, they will always take the extra minute to wrap it very nicely for you. It’s uncommon to find soap in bathrooms. It is extremely safe. I used to leave my laptop at a cafe to keep my spot and go out for lunch. I’ve heard that petty crimes have been increasing lately though. There are very different norms and customs around working, see Kristin Au's answer to What were the biggest surprises when working in Japan?Hitting on people/ being hit on by random people happens a lot. One time I was walking home from a long day of work and errands when a middle-aged salary man starting walking next to me and very bluntly asked me “Onee-san, would you like to accompany me to dinner?”There are a few “designated” nampa, or pick-up, places, including in front of the Tsutaya at the famous Shibuya Crossing. I have never experienced it but have heard that there are people (usually males) who hang out there to nampa as a hobby as well as people (usually females) who stand around waiting to be hit on.People will set up events, called goukons, to find a boyfriend/ girlfriend. One girl and one guy, who are acquaintances, will each recruit the same number of girls and guys (usually around 2 to 4 people) to go to dinner, usually at an izakaya, or Japanese pub. After dinner, the girls and guys will pair up via a “deciding” game or by taking turns to choose who they want to be with. Afterwards, they will either do a group activity or separate pair activities. Goukons are pretty common-place, and have even been used as settings for commercials.Books at bookstores are usually plastic wrapped. Sometimes there might be a “sample” book you could take a look through.Almost everything has a mascot. My office building’s mascot was a tiger Doraemon.

How do I become a Google student ambassador in India?
This years procedure for becoming a Google Student Ambasssador was different from last year. So by making an assumption that Google does not change its procedure in 2014, this is how one can be a Google Student Ambassador.Your institution's name should be there in the list of institutes created by Google. This year Google prepared a list of 500 institutes whose students were eligible for applying for GSA program. Still it is not clear on what basis this list is created and I don't think there is anything that one can do if your institute is not there in that list. Here is the list for this GSA 2013. Institutions List_GSA ProgramYou need to refered to GSA program by the mentioned referrer. In each selected institution Google selects a person as a referrer whose job is to identify 5 students from the institute and refer their names and email-ids to Google. So therefore you need to find the referrer from your institute and ask him/her to refer you for the program.Fill the application form from Google. Using the details sent by the referrer, people from Google (Googlers) will conatact you and send you a mail with an application form and other details. Now here is the most important task you need to fill out that application form in such a way that Google cannot neglect you. Make your application stand apart from other applications. Now 2 students from each institute be selected for the next round.Clear the interview round. The 2 shortlisted students from each institute will again be contacted by a Googler who will be taking your interview. They will ask you to fix a date on which you will be comfortable in coducting the phone interview.Cross your fingers and wait for the result. After all this process each applicant is reviewed carefully based on his/her application and interview. It is not fixed that a GSA will be selected from each institute. It totally depends on the applicant. In some cases two GSAs are also selected from an institute. After this the selected GSAs are invited to attend a summit (most probably in Goa) so that they can be trained for this program and educated about the same.

My husband and I plan to migrate to Australia, how do I start the process without the involvement of an agent?
Great dream, DO IT!In my book (How to make your dream of living in another country a reality) I explained in details how to be successful in any visa application with or without a registered immigration agent. Here’s an extract from Chapter seven which will help answer your question:.......Visa application – the real dealWhen it comes to visa acquisition, the magic formula is to make sure your application is as strong as it can absolutely be.Getting a visa today to live and pursue your dream in a desired country is one of the best feelings in the world. It is an opportunity of a lifetime. I view the whole visa application venture as an investment. As aforementioned, it involves non-refundable fees and related expenses. It takes a lot of time and energy to gather the required documentation, fill out the application form and eventually submit. It also involves heaps of emotions since our travel dream is largely dependent on the ultimate outcome. This is why I always approach every visa application with all seriousness. Apart from one visitor visa that I was denied some time ago when I was an undergraduate student, all my other subsequent visa applications (student, work and residency visas) were approved. Six successes in total. Yay!Here are the keys to all my visa application successes:· As soon as I decide to apply for a visa, I make a written timetable and start organising supporting documents well in advance: Some of the RIGHT documents take weeks and even months to gather. I never rush!· Always save and have adequate funds to pay for the non-refundable adjudicating visa application. I hate losing to the immigration officials with no favourable results. Once bitten, twice shy!· I choose my application assistants carefully. Even though I principally complete the entire application form on my own, I never hesitate to seek help from trusted family members (such as my wife) and friends (those I know have been successful with the same visa type I am pursuing) if necessary. When I am unsure of anything, I contact the immigration department directly through emails or call their direct line. Sometimes, I will have to hold the call for over 45 minutes, but the officers are able to point me in the right direction.· Since I take full responsibility of the whole application process I ensure I read all available guidelines and information provided by the country’s official immigration website. The good news is that each application form has an accompanying guide, which is available for free on the official immigration websites. I carefully read the guide before attempting to complete any visa application form. I go over them multiple times so I don’t miss or misinterpret anything.· It is advisable to always check the credibility of any immigration consultant you select. To ensure you receive professional, honest and reliable advice, ensure you stick to the recommendation to always engage a licensed immigration adviser, registered immigration law specialist or designated government agency to assist you with your visa application. People often ask me if they should hire an immigration adviser. I have heard success stories from people I know who used their service. It is important to note that applying for a visa is very personalised and circumstance based. In the worst-case scenario, assuming due to my circumstances, I need personalised immigration help from a consultant, I will choose them carefully. Nowadays, there are many consultants and travel agents who claim they can answer all the technical questions and help you with your visa application to varying degrees. Beware of the scammers out there!· I complete the application forms with all the attention they deserve and supply all the right requirements. Accuracy and consistency is very important to me! I avoid incomplete or vague information. I just follow the instructions in the application guide, complete the application form and submit it on my own.· I arrange the documents in the specified order. I aim to make the immigration officer’s job of reviewing and reading through my application pack as easy and simple as possible.· I stay away from pitfalls such as providing false or fraudulent information. I am very aware that the authenticity of all the information and documents I supply will be verified. I am reminded that, if I’m banned or blacklisted, it could have a negative effect on my future visa applications. I move away from being in a fool’s paradise by believing the immigration officials will be lenient or understanding if I make mistakes or errors. It is my notion that these immigration officers will decline or fail my application based on my own errors............................................I wish you great success in your journeyCheers.LouisAuthor, How to make your dream of living in another country a reality

How can someone in Japan marry a Japanese women?
I am assuming that you are a foreigner.Yes, a foreign man living legally in Japan can get married to a Japanese woman. You must get from your embassy or consulate affidavits signNowing that you are legally free to marry. The affidavit is sometimes referred to as a Certificate of Eligibility to Marry (konin yoken gubi shomeisho; 婚姻要件具備証明書). Some embassies have versions in Japanese and some do not. You may need to get a certified translation of the document. The next thing that is necessary is a copy of both people’s Registry of Current Residence (jūminhyō: 住民票). This can be gotten, for a few hundred yen, at the municipal office where the person is registered. The next step is to fill out the Application / Notification of Marriage (konin-todoke; 婚姻届). You can get this at the same municipal office at which you get the Registry of Residence. You can fill out the form on the spot or take it home and do so at your leisure. With the filled out Marriage Application, the Registry of Residence, and the Certificate of Eligibility you are almost ready to do the deed. Go to the local municipal office and give the above papers to the person at the Citizen Affairs Office (shimin ka; 市民課). You will also need to hand over your Residence Card (Zairyu Card; 在留カード). You should also bring along your personal seal and, just to be on the safe side, your passports. A few minutes after handing all this over, the civil servant will come back and tell you that they are finished with the paperwork and you are now [legally] married. The entire process is without charge.Should you want some sort of paper saying that you are married you can ask for a certificate or declaration of marriage (Konin Todoke Juri Shomei-sho; 婚姻届受理証明書). This may cost a few hundred yen. I believe that some cities have started giving out, for a nominal fee, a fancier looking marriage certificate. This was not an option when and where I got married. Now the question remains as to whether the marriage in Japan is legally binding in your home country. This will depend on the treaties between the countries involved. This question is best answered by your embassy. Can you do the marriage thing in a city you do not live in? Perhaps, but you will need to get all the paperwork in order before you go to their municipal offices. You will probably have to fill out that city’s Application for Marriage.Good luck. Live Long and Prosper.
