ANYONE , can get into ASU very easy, they love taking anyone, giving them very little grant money, forcing the student loans, and you can barely afford full time tuition. You will not have any money left over. UCLA doesnt allow anyone and is a world renowned great college if you get accepted to UCLA congrats and you will have a great future. Btw I attended ASU 1 year, transfered back to a community college and then went on to UNF and UCF now going to law school. Leaving ASU was one of the best decisions in my life.

As a UCLA computer science triple degree holder, I spent the full decade 1970-80 as a grad student, TA and RA in computer science.  in 1980, our PhD program was ranked 5th in the nation (behind the usual suspects).  UCLA as a whole, and the School of Engineering now rank as one of the top 3 "public" universities/programs in the US, and the world ("The Times World Rankings" of London).Many of the top grad students get opportunities to be hired as TAs and RAs, which are rewarding jobs.  Plus, there is a robust interaction with the likes of Google et al. in the nearby "Silicon Beach" for internships and jobs.

I hate to make it sound so simple, but it really is - just apply.  Most scholarships are no specific school based, find a scholarship or many scholarships, ensure you meet the criteria and requirements and apply for it.  That's honestly it.  If you win, they'll either submit the scholarship funds to your school's account or directly to you.   If you've been accepted to the university, you'll typically automatically be given a couple scholarships depending on your field of study, sport programs you may be in, GPA from high school, STA/ACT scores, or a variety of other things.  You can talk to you financial aid adviser for specific information or to request more assistance. But seriously, if you see a scholarship AND you meet the requirements, simply apply.

It's a good program.  It's ranked 14th in the US from what I remember, which is pretty good.  Curriculum: There are some major head-scratchers for required classes.  Also, I wished there was more flexibility in the classes required so we can take what we think would be interesting.  I would love to take some classes in the other departments, but I just don't have time for it.  If there was any plus, there's a good choice of classes, you just need to look around for them.  Grade:  C+Professors: Awesome CS professors.  I go to class to learn as opposed to feeling guilty.  But the math/physics professors at UCLA are garbage.  Smart (like all professors) but couldn't teach a hamster to run on a wheel.  Grade:  A-Industry Connections: Lots to the defense industry in San Diego, strong connections to the Bay and Seattle (but not as strong as Berkeley or Stanford for obvious reasons).  Heavily recruited by heavyweights like Microsoft, Google, Apple, Amazon, Facebook.  I've literally been cold-called to interview before at these companies.  I have several friends with 3.1/3.2s coming out with 80-90k/year salaries.  I know one guy getting paid 47/hr at his internship with a GPA around there.  Grade:  B+Students: 80% guys, 20% girls.  Really smart people here and there, but a lot of people who coast along.  Makes it easy to get good grades on the curve though.  In all honesty, it's not that hard to get a flat 3.0 and that's all you really need if you know software and how to write code well.  Grade:  BInfrastructure/Resources: SEASLab is always open, big engineering building, lots of tutoring help, mentorship, tons of resources at a big university.  Grade:  BIntangibles:  There are immense opportunities here for maturing as a person and learning how to deal with people of all different kinds.  There are a lot of volunteer opportunities here as well.  Believe it or not, there's more out there than the enclosed world of Computer Science.  UCLA lets you explore that.  Grade:  AOverall: It was a great experience.  I do wonder how my life might've been different had I chose a top-notch program like Berkeley or Harvey Mudd instead, but you can only do the best you can.  I've learned a great deal about Computer Science, but also about being a more mature/responsible person.  I think that counts more than knowing how to code in Scala or making that extra 5k/year starting salary.  Grade:  B+
