It indicates the date by which a product must be used. Vaccine and diluent may be used up to and including the expiration date, unless the manufacturer indicates otherwise in the product information. Expired vaccine or diluent should never be used. When the expiration date is printed with the month, day, and year the vaccine or diluent expires at midnight on that date. For example, if the expiration date is 08-15-2016 or August 15th, 2016 the vaccine or diluent may be used until midnight on August 15th, 2016. It should not be used on or after August 16th. If only a month and year are indicated the vaccine or diluent may be used up to and including the last day of that month.
