How does being raised by clueless parents affect your development? Meaning, parents who have no clue about the importance of SATs, how to apply for college or financial aid, or don't know how to help with homework, etc.
I can completely relate to User’s answer, I am also more or less in the same situation, my parents sent me to Australia when I was a teenager for education purposes while they worked their arse off back home, now, my parents back then were typically lower middle class and strict Christian parents.Religion, My parents are both born again Christian and I was born Christian, I was baptised, went to church twice a week, I was indoctrinated to believe in God and to follow his teachings blindly, and after I turned 17 I realised how silly religion is, and became an atheist. Up until now I still struggle with my parents and I have some problems whenever this particular issue is brought up.There was no affection shown in my family, any typical Asian can attest that it’s not very common to see Asian parents show affection to each other or to the kids, I’ve never heard my parents say “I love you”, hug, kiss or hold hands. My parents almost never complimented me on anything, at most it was just “not bad, keep it up” and I never got a Christmas presents from them. This is just a little thing but I realised how this thing affected me as a person. No idea how to help in terms of handling paperwork, I had to handle all my own paperwork from school application, applying for my residency, visa, handle my own taxes, etc etc since I was a teenager.Sex education. It’s generally taboo to talk about sex openly in Asian household, my parents never taught me the importance of safe sex, contraception, STDs, etc, now that I think about it, it was quite risky to send their kid to a foreign country with the kid being clueless about sex. But thankfully I was able to learn on my own and not putting myself in a dangerous situation.Dating/marrying someone who’s not from my own race. They never understood this particular issue, they always thought that it’s always simpler and easier to have courtship with a person from a similar culture background, but they just didn’t realise that I involved culturally as well when they sent me abroad, so I wouldn’t say my culture is strictly all Asian. So, when they found out that I’m dating/marrying a white person, they were shocked and we had a bit of a rough patch but we managed to overcome it, and today my parents are very fond of my fiancée, like any other Asian parents, their love to my fiancée can be measured by how much food they are feeding her when we visit them.I was expected to survive on my own. Just like a baby bird being released from the nest for the first time, I was expected to be self reliant, they were not rich, they had to sell lots of things, I was given money for only limited amount of time and I had to support myself for the rest. But these things I’ve mentioned above are trivial, the thing that affected me the most was to see their hard work and support. The first time I ever understood the concept of “you have no idea how to appreciate what you have until you know how hard it is to earn one” was because of my parents, no matter how hard it was for me, they were always being supportive, as long as I was willing to do it wholeheartedly and not stop.Despite all the flaws and how clueless they were, they bent over backwards just to make sure I had something to eat, to make sure I could live another day. And for that, I am infinitely grateful and I wouldn’t change anything from my parents even if I had the chance, for me, they are perfect in every conceivable way.

How does WBJEE counselling work?
WBJEE counselling procedure is very much similar to the counselling procedure adopted in JEE MAINS. After obtaining a rank in the exam interested candidates will be required to generate username and password and will have to pay the registration fee. This registration fee will be non-refundable,which is around 500. After registration candidates will be required to fill their choices online through the website. After declaration of round 1 result a candidate will be left with 3 choices. 1- accept the seat and take admission in the allocated seat.2- consider the candidate for up-gradation to higher filled choices.3- surrender the seat and pull out yourself from the counselling procedure.candidates will have to report to the reporting center within the specified period of time and will have to submit their choices failing to do so in round 1 will automatically remove you from further consideration and you will loose your seat. For choices 1 & 2, candidates will have to pay seat acceptance fee which will be returned in further rounds if you opt for choice 3( but will have to report to the reporting center, otherwise the candidate will not be able to claim it). This procedure will be repeated for three rounds and extra rounds can be introduced if the counselling team feels the necessity of it.In last round you will be forced to either accept the allocated seat or surrender your seat.

How can I buy Tesla shares from India?
Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Facebook. We all have grown up using these companies’ products/services. Obviously everyone’s interested in stock market would like to invest there too.But wait, since they won’t be listed on Indian stock exchange, how to do it?There are basically 3 ways you can invest in Tesla,Open an account with Indian Brokerage firm who has a tie-up with foreign broker. Like ICICIdirect, HDFC sec, Reliance Money etc.. They provides the service where you can open your overseas trading account with their foreign brokerage partner.Open account with foreign brokers. Some international brokers are out there who permits Indian citizen to open account and trade in US market like Interactive Brokers, TD Ameritrade, Charles Schwab International Account.Buy Indian MF(Mutual Fund)/ETF(Exchange Traded fund) with global equities. Mutual Fund basically invests in stock market, Government bonds and other securities. There are few firms which invest in international market. You can invest indirectly there but you will never know if your money went in Tesla or not. But this is probably safest option I know because you will not have to open Overseas trading account plus you will save the minimum deposit roughly $10,000. Here are few popular mutual funds who trade in global market, ICICI Pru US Bluechip Equity – D (G), Motilal MOSt Oswal NASDAQ 100 ETF, Reliance US Equity Opp. Fund DP (G), Edelweiss Greater China Eqty-Direct andKotak US Equity Fund – Direct (G).Now that you know the ways to invest, here are some food for thoughts. The reason why people invest in foreign stock exchanges.People want to invest in their favorite companies, of course Elon Musk/Steve Job are everyone’s idol. We all believe in them, their vision. Also Google, Amazon, Twitter, Facebook are darlings of this generation.Diversification - Investing in foreign companies helps in diversification. Investing in foreign companies mitigate the risk when Indian market gets crash.Bigger Opportunities - The point is there are thousands of better companies out there. There is no boundary anymore.Investors believe that foreign companies have better resources, facility, government cooperation. That makes them high rated. Some Critical Points to know before you invest in TeslaUp to $2,50,000 can be invested overseas by Indian resident as per RBI. That is roughly 1.7 crores. That’s enough, right?High Charges - Here you will be transecting in foreign money. You will be paying brokerage charges in their currency that is USD (1 USD~68.5 INR). So, will the AMC(annual Maintenance charges).Profit are subjected to currency exchange rate - Price of INR against USD will constantly change, so suppose you invested when it was 1$=₹68 , so when you sell the stock maybe the price changes to 1$=₹60. In such case you already lost 11.7%. That’s why when you invest in foreign stocks, profits are always subjected to the currency exchange rate.To know more about such topics please visit, Blog - Trade Brainsor Join Pundits of Stock market at Indian Stock Market Tribe- TRADE BRAINS.

What is the process under the hood when you send the I-485 application? Does USCIS look through every page before sending out the receipt?
Form I-485 Process -When you send Form I-485 to the USCIS, they will first review it to make sure that there are no fatal errors (i.e. no signature, missing pages, etc)If everything is correct, they will cash the checks and being to process the application.Throughout the application process, they may need additional evidence. For example, if your sponsor makes below 125 percent of the federal poverty line or if their financial affidavit is unclear, the USCIS may mail you a letter or Form I-797, a request for additional evidence (RFE). This is a normal part of the process and happens to many application, so don’t be worried. You should, however, take them very seriously. If you submit your RFE response packet incorrectly, your I-485 will be rejected and you will have to start over.Once the forms have all the required evidence, the applicant will be required to go to their local USICS office for the biometrics appointment. This is a short appointment where your fingerprints and photos will be taken. After this, you will have your interview. Here a USICS officer will give your I-485 one last looks. If all is well, they will approve your case, and you will get your green card shortly! Congrats!>>>Note: Make sure to fill out your application correctly and accurately to avoid REFs and rejection. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to fill out the I-485.

What are some of the strangest gun control proposals you can come up with?
Banning guns based on how they look versus how they function.Banning guns based on a projectile being 1/1000th inch bigger than others equally capable.Banning guns based on the diameter or markings on their barrel that have no bearing on its ability to function.Making existing gun owners wait 8 days to take possession of a gun as a “cooling off” period.Banning possession of sheet metal or plastic boxes with springs because these, after all, are some of the most dangerous objects on the planet.Banning and not banning aforementioned boxes based on the number of rounds they hold but allowing the exact same box to be sold legally if it possesses the correct markings on the bottom.Having a one-gun-a-month law to prevent gun trafficking or straw purchases but allow anyone a lifetime waiver of that restriction by simply sending a form to the state saying they are a collector. Any reason for collecting is permissible (“In the event of a zombie apocalypse” is an acceptable reason).Where you live determines your ability to own a gun in the same state.Telling victims of home invasion they are to be arrested and treated as criminals because of the property someone else took from them.Being so concerned about privacy rights that you demand any would-be gun owner waive their HIPAA rights for life to make sure they aren’t “dangerous”.Declaring 18 through 20 year olds children and barring them from exercising their right to own a gun. But that’s the only right they are too immature or unable to exercise as a legal adult at those ages.Compiling lists of guns and gun owners in the utterly illogical belief that a couple pieces of paper solves crimes.Banning the publication of computer code or plans for firearms that are freely available in printed form without restriction. Hating two parts of the Bill of Rights is pretty impressive stuff.Demand that we have noise dampening devices on vehicles and hearing protection on around machinery that can damage hearing in an instant as a public safety measure but regulate the same for firearms to the point it takes 9–10 months and Federal and State permission to own. And not all states will allow you to protect your hearing.Requiring a person to be fingerprinted, photographed and provide a background check and at least two days of training at their own expense and submit the application within 3 days for a license to allow them to apply to purchase a handgun. It is not a “permit-to-possess” but merely a permission slip to fill out a form.Declaring that items meant to safely hold a firearm in order to use it are too dangerous to have fitted to a gun.Buttons are verboten.Changing the color or finish on a gun makes it illegal to sell as “unsafe”.Declaring any semi-automatic rifle an “assault rifle” regardless of age, caliber or feed type.Declaring a Marlin or equivalent tube-fed .22LR semi-auto rifle an “assault weapon”.Allowing anyone via hearsay to claim someone is suspicious or may have violent tendencies and have their guns taken away from them without Due Process.I can go on. And on and on. All strange and ones I could have never come up with on my own.Note for the Irony Challenged: Every single item on this list is an actual law or regulation in force today somewhere in the United States.

How does MIT adjust tuition for international students with limited financial resources?
First there is the Total Cost of attending MIT:Tuition, Fees, Room, Board, Books and Supplies, Miscellaneous expenses, Local travel, and one round-trip from your home to MIT each school year.Currently, that is anywhere from $65,000 to $70,000 depending upon where you live (which country) to account for the round-trip.MIT then Demands that You and All of your parents fill out a Daunting amount of paper work proving that you need financial aid. That paper work will be filled out each and every year that you attend MIT as an undergraduate. In addition, MIT will require that an independent agency in your country verify what you and All of your parents have stated, and that agency must be trusted by MIT. If any of that does not occur, you get No (zero) financial aid.The result of all of that verified paper work, is the Expected Family Contribution (EFC).That EFC includes what MIT believes that You and All of your parents can afford to contribute towards your education each year. That EFC includes the money that MIT Expects that you will earn each summer before attending MIT.Then MIT calculates: Total Cost - EFC is what you need. However, for many, MIT then subtracts $6,000 from what you need, and tells You, the student, to either earn that money During the school year, or Borrow the money from your country. You can get a feel for the types of questions that will be asked in that Daunting paper work (succinctly) by looking here: Financial Aid Calculator | MIT Admissions Read Everything on that MIT admissions web site, as it will answer most if not all of your questions, including questions you did not even know to ask.Typically, in detail, you and All of your parents will be asked to fill out the CSS Profile as an international applicant: Apply for College Financial Aid (that is the daunting form). Therefore, if you and your family are Dirt Poor, it will not cost you more than $6,000 per year in loans from your country to attend MIT, and depending on your situation, MIT may make that Zero. As long as you are very proficient in filling out daunting forms. NOTE: if any of your parents own a small business, then be prepared for even more daunting forms, as private colleges in the USA fully believe that small businesses are where families Hide their money to try and get more aid from the college.I am trying to be brutally honest. All the best.

How can I get into an American university if I am an American citizen who graduated from high school in a 3rd world country?
First, for all US colleges, the magic phrase is “You are an US citizen”. Therefore, you will follow the application guidelines for an US citizen. However, as others have noted, if English is not your customary language, you should take the TOEFL exam along with either the SAT or the ACT in order to meet the many requirements for US colleges.Unfortunately, you will not be “in-state” for any of the state’s Public universities, unless your parents currently reside in that state.Where you may have some difficulties is applying for financial aid, if you need some. You will be able to apply as an US citizen, but you may get caught in a “Catch-22” if you or your parents have not been filing US income tax forms each year. If your parents are not US citizens than that will complicate the application for financial aid as well. Most likely you will fill out the PROFILE forms and then you will check to see if you are eligible (with your parents) to fill out the FAFSA forms to apply for student aid from the US government (PROFILE is used for student aid from a Private university). The other problem you may encounter is having your guidance counselor submit your official transcript (in English) to the colleges along with a cover letter of recommendation. If your school is not used to students applying to US universities, then you will need to start Early to get them on the same “application wavelength” as you will have to be for the US universities.Start early. Read everything on the colleges’ application web sites, and e-mail questions to the colleges. All the best.

How do I copyright my works (design, codes, graphics, etc.) in the Philippines?
All requests for copyright are to be filed with the Intellectual Property Office (IPO), which is empowered to process copyright applications on behalf of the National Library of the Philippines (NLP), the national custodian of copyright. You will need to fill out and submit a Copyright Registration and Deposit Form to the IPO, which will then process your request. Don't forget to bring valid ID when filing the application. You must also enclose in your application two copies of the work being copyrighted, and pay a filing fee (this is ₱625 in Metro Manila and ₱750 everywhere else). Afterward, your application is processed, and after encoding and archival, you will receive a Certificate of Registration and Deposit, formalizing the copyright claim. What happens with those copies of the work being copyrighted? Well, all works submitted for copyright will eventually be sent to the National Library for copyright deposit, the local term for legal deposit.(EDIT: Note that in the Philippines, copyright is conferred automatically upon creation of the work. If you're copyrighting something like a website, you don't need to go through the IPO process; a simple copyright notice will suffice. However, registration ensures that the work is recorded as being copyrighted, and so you have a stronger legal defense in the event someone decides to steal your work and you want to sue.)
