This is what my son and I did when he wanted to live independently, but couldn't really afford to live out on his own.I live on the west coast of Canada. Rents are very high, so it is difficult for young people to work at the minimum wage jobs available to them, and live independently.We have a strong Provincial Landlord Tenant Act which governs both landlords and tenants. Everything is very clear, and life is easier for all concerned if landlords use the government forms, and follow the act.My son called me one day, after living away from home for maybe 3 years, saying he wasn't going to be able to pay the rent due in 3 or 4 days. Could he please move back home into his room?I rented a truck, about 3 hours was all I could get at that late date, and we moved him home.It turned out he was having trouble with having a consistent income with the minimum wage jobs he was qualified for at the time.He moved into his childhood room, which is tiny, and my living room became a storage room for the rest of his things. (I have a tenant paying market rent in a one bedroom suite in my basement. It pays the mortgage.)Not long after, we moved him into the master bedroom, which has an ensuite (master bath), and all his things moved from the living room into his room, which is very large.Next, he filled out a provincial government landlord tenant form, and began paying $200 each month.I put a full size fridge and microwave in his room. He did his own grocery shopping, and cooking. He did his own cleaning and laundry. We didn't share a bathroom, so that removed a source of friction.I certainly did not worry about the cleanliness of his room. That's what doors are for, although it turned out he cleaned more regularly than I did.I did not enter his room without permission or proper notice, as per the Landlord Tenant Act.I had already taken him grocery shopping a few times to show him how to shop and cook on a budget.I hired someone else to cut the lawn. My son had no time, and I didn't want to be arguing with him about chores.He was no longer a child. I had my chance raising him. That period of both our lives was over. He was trying his best to be an independent adult in a difficult financial climate, so I treated him like an adult. I also treated him like any other tenant I've had.My thinking was if I wouldn't say it to my tenant downstairs, I didn't say it to him.All of this meant that our only interaction was social, so we became good friends.It worked a treat. We get along great now.Your son is trying to be an adult, taking small steps. Let him. Make him a tenant, and treat him like any other tenant.Charge him $200 a month, which is low enough to keep him there, but high enough that he will have to budget to make sure he can pay it.Treat him the same way you would treat a tenant who is a stranger. Treat him like the adult he wants to be.Let him do his own laundry. Make up a schedule, if necessary. He gets the weekends, you get weekdays; he gets Wednesday and Sunday, you get the rest of the time.Hire someone to mow the grass. Do not expect “family chores" from him, just as you wouldn't from a tenant who is a stranger.Put a full size fridge, a microwave, and a hot plate in his suite if there isn't a kitchen. Then take him grocery shopping and show him how to shop, and cook, on a tight budget.Do not expect him at the family dinner table every night. You will find yourself chasing him to find out when he'll be home for dinner every day. Let him set his own schedule, cook for himself, eat what he wants. If he needs cooking lessons, teach him, or sign him up for a class. After he's settled, invite him for Sunday dinner, but not every week.If he needs to be driven when he drinks too much, pick him up. Ask no questions.Try very hard not to judge as he navigates the difficult time of young adulthood. Help him get through without any life altering issues — everyone alive, no one pregnant, no record.All of this will help him learn how to organize his life successfully in the adult world while he is in a safe place. It will also provide a foundation for your future relationship, and your respect for each other.He wants to be an independent adult. Let him, and help him.It has nothing to do with whether or not you need the rent money. It has everything to do with helping your son become an adult.My son stayed for 2.5 years. It was great having him here. When he left, he got in his car and drove, alone, across the country to live in Toronto, which he felt well prepared to do. I then offered his room to a young, aspiring musician who wanted to live semi-independently, with someone around. Becoming popular for big companiesTHIS method can apply to certain people, and be quite lucrative.Let’s say you worked for a big company in the marketing department and you were exposed to how a big marketing department tests & releases products.If you were to build a nice little network in the same industry, and then become a consultant with a VERY SPECIFIC expertise, then you get some other big companies to fork over A LOT of money.Smaller freelance gigs can pay a few hundred dollars. But a huge corporation who is a doing an 8+ month rollout of $100,000,000+ product will pay you some phat-ass cash to ensure they do it right.Now I personally probably couldn’t get one of these gigs because I’ve never worked inside a huge company. That means I lose major credibility because I’ve never walked the walk.But if you do have some very niche experience within a big corporation and had a few big wins, you might be able to become a very highly-sought-after consultant.The cool part is you only need a few good contacts for this.I know someone who wrote an oil-management program in the 70’s that’s still used today. Till this day he gets sweet-ass gigs from multiple companies JUST to be around if anyone needs help implementing it.Since the projects he consults for are $2billion+ …..the companies don’t mind shelling out major cash just to keep him around.Boring? Yes.Sweet cash flow? Yes.This is one of the benefits of working with a big company:You know how to implement projects within a large company. That is actually a rare skill.METHOD #4.) Get small-time gigs.Now there are some other ways to get copywriting gigs, but I’ve never seen anyone who consistently made big money doing these things alone, so I’ll just list them quickly:Posting on Fiverr for copywriting gigs.You’ll definitely get some leads this way, but your clients will usually be bargain-hunters and not HUGE jobs.Posting on Craigslist as a copywriter for hire. This will generally result in corporate copywriter jobs that are relatively low-paying ($35,000 – $45,000).Posting on UpWork as a copywriter for hire. This will get you small to medium gigs. It’s not my favorite wayMETHOD #5.) Post in Facebook Groups where people can use copywriting services.I think this one is the easiest. Just go to groups like The Cult of Copy Job Board that you are offering your services for a one-time low price of $xxxxx and that you’re for hire.A lot of times people will bite.People also constantly post gigs there such as:Not all the gigs will be good, but some will.In the beginning you will have to scrape together gigs, but if you start putting all your work inside a simple portfolio, you can gain some steam. Which brings me to :Make a Simple Copywriting Portfolio!Ok, listen to me carefully young buck:You DO NOT NEED a fancy website. In fact, I’ve never never ever seen someone get a copywriting gig directly from their portfolio. EVER!!The reason is: people are looking to hire you based on your skills at copywriting. Not “how fancy your website looks.” This is a common mistake. Look how crappy my copywriting consults page is. That page generates huge returns even though it sucks super bad. The desire to buy is created from previous exposure to me, NOT the way the page looks.People will spend months and lots of money and time on a fancy website, only to realize NO ONE IS COMING TO IT. The only people going there are the people they meet directly and tell to go there.The best type of copywriting portfolio is a simple page with the following elements:Your name.Your expertise (Social Media? Landing Pages? A/B Testing?).A few examples of your work.How they can book a session with you.I know it sounds counterintuitive, but some of the best copywriting pages I’ve EVER SEEN are super simple one’s like this:See how simple that is?It also only leaves them ONE option of what to do next, and that’s to book a session with you.These sessions should generally be a minimum of $100.If a client is not willing to pay at least $100 for a consultation session where you point out everything wrong with their page, they are NOT going to buy anyways.My minimum consultation session is $597 now. And I’ve learned the hard way that if people are not willing to pay it, they are not going to be willing to pay you more (or they just simply can’t afford it).Oddly enough, the more I charge for each hour session, the more respect and compliance I get from the client! They want to make SURE they get their money out of that session , so they ensure they show up on time and show up prepared.I would personally avoid doing free sessions. Often times they delete the site you met them on right after they asked you to move to a more private messaging siteProfesses love to you very quickly & seems to quote poems and song lyrics along with using their own sort of broken language, as they profess their love and devotion quickly. They also showed concern for your health and love for your family.Promises marriage as soon as he/she gets to state for leave that they asked you to pay for.They Requests money (wire transfers) and Amazon, iTune ,Verizon, etc gift cards, for medicine, religious practices, and leaves to come home, internet access, complete job assignments, help sick friend, get him out of trouble, or anything that sounds fishy.The military does provide all the soldier needs including food medical Care and transportation for leave. Trust me, I lived it, you are probably being scammed. I understand the American attitude but we are a bit on the arrogant side of health care. We think we're the best at everything.  Each system has their strengths but the USA is built on ability to pay.I have had the fortunate experience of living in both the USA and UK. I have spent the better part of 50 years with good Blue Cross insurance in the USA and now I'm under the NHS in Scotland. I've found that I have received good care under both systems. What's the difference? For one thing, when I visited the doctor in the USA I had to pay a co-pay of 25 dollars plus the fact that I also paid about 100 dollars out of my paycheck every month though my employer paid the bulk of it. When I had a problem last week in Scotland I received a phone consultation with the doctor who made an appointment for me. I got in at 3:40 that same day. The doctor thought it would be good for me to get an x-ray so he contacted the hospital radiology and made an appointment then and there. I went to the hospital and had my x-ray done. I was out and on my way home by 4:15. The cost? Nothing. If I had needed a prescription it would have cost me nothing.Now I know what you're thinking. Nothing is free. That's true. I pay taxes to cover my NHS care. However in the USA when I was caught up in a layoff I lost my employer provided health care. To keep that care I would have paid 800 dollars a month and that coverage was limited to a year. In current dollars health insurance paid for under the same Blue Cross policy would be fifteen hundred or more dollars a month.So what are my taxes to pay for this socialised medicine? My payroll taxes (of which NHS is only a portion) amount to much less than half what my health care alone would cost me in the USA.Conservatives in the USA complain and resist socialism. It is anathema to them. And the propaganda from the right paints all these horror stories that are extreme or overblown cases that you can find even more examples of in the USA. We Americans tend to love our Medicare and VA hospitals. That is socialized health care. The USA has plenty of social systems in place that we take for granted. Every government has some form of socialistic programs. Most western nations have established national health care because its citizens want it. And I know of no countries with national health care that have remotely considered it a mistake. Once established they have never gone back. It is only a matter of time before the USA adopts some form of it. It's possible it will start as state programs in California or other large states. It is a much more cost effective system. And everyone qualifies no matter what their income status.Who in the USA would not want it? Doctors for starters. Pay for them would not be in the millions. Pharmaceutical companies also since the national system would negotiate competitive prices. And some conservatives would rather have no coverage and die than have socialized medicine.The British like their NHS and I can't complain at all. It's their choice to keep it and it serves them and me well. If Obama had managed to sell the idea to America you would have bitched and moaned but in the end you would have used it and gotten used to it. Then you would have never given it up.Now that I'm retiring it is the NHS that will keep me in Scotland rather than returning to the USA.  The troubles we're currently experiencing with the NHS are the result of the conservative government's penchant for cutting budgets when they really should be increasing taxes.In short, the USA has some of the best health care in the world but it comes at an extreme cost and neglects those without adequate funds. The UK has very good health care but a far superior system. There is more to health care than technology alone.

I was selected for a summer internship 2016.I tried to be very open while filling the preference form: I choose many products as my favorite products and I said I'm open about the team I want to join.I even was very open in the  location and start date to get host matching interviews (I negotiated the start date in the interview until both me and my host were happy.) You could ask your recruiter to review your form (there are very cool and could help you a lot since they have a bigger experience).Do a search on the potential team.Before the interviews,  try to find smart question that you are going to ask for the potential host (do a search on the team  to find nice and deep questions to impress your host). Prepare well your resume.You are very likely not going to get algorithm/data structure questions like in the first round. It's going to be just some friendly chat if you are lucky. If your potential team is working on something like machine learning, expect that  they are going to ask you questions about machine learning, courses related to machine learning you have and relevant experience (projects, internship). Of course you have to study that before the interview. Take as long time as you need if you feel rusty. It takes some time to get ready for the host matching (it's less than the technical interview)  but it's worth it of course.
