I didn't want to go with Arielle despite how pretty it looks because I knew it would cause issues. I knew people would misspell it constantly so I reduced it to the simpler Ariel which is said almost exactly the same.Ariel interestingly comes from hebrew and means "Lion of God" though I'm not religious.It was the name of the muse in Shakespeare's "The Tempest"Ariel. Is there more toil? Since thou dost give me pains,Let me remember thee what thou hast promised, Which is not yet perform'd me....Ariel. My liberty.It is also the name of The Little Mermaid which is almost the female version of Pinocchio. A young mermaid that dreams of being a human girl.So bonus points for symbolism there.I also changed my last name because I have no connection to my father nor do I want to have a connection to the name that tried to kill me and my family when I was just 6 years old. I cast off his last name and took my mothers maiden name, Williams.So, Ariel Williams. I like how it sounds!When I went to court to legally change my name the judge asked why and I said "Personal dissatisfaction with the name and I have already been using Ariel as an alias for some time." I think the judge actually smirked. I know I was nervous and while watching other cases go before the judge I quietly refrained what I was going to say to that very question. I need not mention my change of gender, the answer was factually correct and to the point. I also have a new middle name but I keep that private.Interestingly my last name would not even be Williams were it not for my great grandfather and prohibition. My great grandfather was a whisky runner in Detroit. He would smuggle the fine quality Canadian whisky, rum and other liquors into Detroit from Canada. The liquors would then fill underground speakeasies around the city. In some places in Detroit the old tunnels used to smuggle the liquor downtown still can be found. When my great grandpa's wife got pregnant he was afraid that his criminal past would haunt his family name so my grandfather was given the last name Williams rather than my great grandfathers name Bondi.I hope that was an entertaining story, it certainly was a fun one for me when I researched names and my family history prior to choosing my name.. I'd say that you should just seek out the jobs that interest you and apply for them. Many don't have such onerous application forms. Some even allow you to apply through LinkedIn. And if you target a small set of companies that really interest you, then it's worth the extra effort to customize each application. Many recruiters and hiring managers, myself included, give more weight to candidates who seem specifically interested in an opportunity, as compared to those who seem to be taking a shotgun approach to the job seeking process.

Depends on your role, and how prevalent it is at the location to which you'd like to transfer. Example #1: If you're a software engineer whose performance is in good standing, it's actually pretty easy to transfer to any of Google's worldwide engineering centers (of which SYD is one).  Visa availability and available headcount are typically the gating factors.Example #2: In contrast, if you're an electrical engineer working at one of Google's data centers in the US, you wouldn't be able to transfer to Google's Sydney office (which is not a data center), as there likely wouldn't be a role fit for you.Note: whether Google will *pay* for your relocation is another question, and is influenced by whether the change is company-initiated or employee-initiated.
