How did Snapchat get traction?Just a little over four years ago, Snapchat was supposedly just an idea that founder Evan Spiegel and friends had while in a class at Stanford. Now, over 100 million active users and 7 billion daily video views later, the White House has joined, presidential candidate Bernie Sanders is running a campaign on it and senior ad buyers are starting to take notice and planning to advertise on the platform over other social media sites. How did Snapchat, an app that first made headlines as the“sexting app”, get here?THE HISTORY OF SNAPCHAT: HOW DISAPPEARING PHOTOS CHANGED THE GAMEI was surprised early on that people didn’t realize that the way Snapchat works is much closer to how we communicate face to face than any other social network. What I mean by this is that: when we talk to each other, passing in the halls or just living out our lives, those moments disappear. Snapchat emulates that behavior and psychology.Snapchat was started at a time when everybody and their mom thought they were an entrepreneur who could launch a successful social app. Facebook was where you went for updates on family and friends, Instagram was beautiful photo content, and Twitter was the conversation at a cocktail party. These three social giants dominated most of the conversation, but they all played off of each other in terms of functionality, and, most importantly, audience. However, Snapchat was able to counterbalance the strengths of all three players and create a new social pipeline. The norm of the internet age is to create platforms in which everything is saved—everything is stored and documented digitally. Snapchat went the opposite direction and is predicated on our reality: moments are temporary and that’s exactly the feeling and behavior that Snapchat mapped to. Snaps could even be compared to television the first fifty years it was introduced: the broadcast aired, and that was it. Snapchat managed to tap into a lot of historical truths, instead of creating something entirely new.FACEBOOK OFFERS TO BUY SNAPCHATAll these things quickly led Snapchat to come to the attention of Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg. Just one year after launch, Zuckerberg reportedly tried to buy the app for $3 billion.Let me just say this: Zuckerberg is the greatest trader in consumer attention of all time.He understands the value of attention. He recognized that Snapchat was well on its way to winning the attention of a generation, much like he did with Instagram (which Facebook bought in 2012 for $1 billion). He saw it as a vulnerability and saw that a Snapchat generation could emerge, much like there was a Facebook generation before it. Facebook acquired a monopoly on 18 to 24 year olds with Instagram, they had a monopoly on an older demo with Facebook; they just needed Snapchat to fill the gaps. But Spiegel turned the offer down. He saw what Zuckerberg saw: the potential to fill-in the social pipelines that other platforms had ignored. He knew he had one of the hottest apps of the time; now it was just up to him and the team to blow out their user base and execute against their core function.THE MATURATION OF SNAPCHAT’S ATTENTIONBut, let’s be honest: what really makes a new social network become popular fast?Teenagers. There are two things that are very true when it comes to teens. One, it’s not cool to hang out at the same club as your mom. And two, you want to lock your room.Snapchat solved both those things. Parents were starting to join Facebook in droves, so teens were looking to leave and looking for somewhere to go. And, the disappearing photos function was essentially the same thing as a “do not disturb” sign on your door, except much more effective. Both these things led to Snapchat’s extreme and sudden user growth. Just a year after launching, Snapchat hit 10 million active users. In October 2013, Snapchat made a signNow update to the platform:Stories. Users could now also add Snaps to a feature called their “Story”, which acted like a longer narrative of snaps strung together. The stories last twenty-four hours after being posted and are public to all their followers.I’m going to be very clear here: I went on the record saying I thought the update was a bad idea. I thought it was absurd to imagine that users would actually go out of their way to watch something on a platform where things were historically delivered to them (Stories live on their own page and you have to click into a Story to watch it).But boy was I wrong. This update marked Snapchat’s first big move into becoming a major platform by creating it’s own social language and context. It already had functionality very different from any other social network at the time; you could draw on top of photos, content disappeared, and the gestures of swiping up, down and to the side were relatively new. But after Stories the platform began to take off and mature as a content destination. By August 2014, 40% of 18 year olds in the US were using Snapchat on a daily basis. The biggest update in recent Snapchat history, and the one that really changed the game for me to push it towards the mainstream, has to be Discover.SNAPCHAT BECOMES A MEDIA DESTINATIONIn early 2015, Snapchat launched Discover. It’s a feature that allows users to receive content provided by top media companies. Launch participants included National Geographic, Vice, ESPN, and more. Eleven participants in all started it off. It was, and still is, a serious play to be part of Snapchat Discover because it puts a company in a very aggressive place within the overall user interface of the app and delivers an unmatched form of attention from their youthful user base. It also completely changed the swipe navigation and how the app is used.It was very exciting step forward for Snapchat. It was obvious they were paying attention to current trends and were ready to act: the explosion of content and companies becoming media companies, putting out their own content, the importance of mobile being first.Using Discover as their platform, Snapchat went out and made deals that allowed them to curate some of the top content providers in the world in this one spot. This gives them more power in the micromanagement of what shows up on the Discover page. The brands that launched as partners, and the 18 brands now currently in the space, have an enormous relationship with Snapchat, and they are getting great equity for it. Why? 45% of Snapchat’s users are under 25.There are over 100 million users, nearing 200 million. Snapchat is basically handing these brands the 25-and-under demo. So it’s no surprise that these media companies have hired entire teams around the initiative. Their only job is to make content for Snapchat. Now, Snapchat is partnering with the NFL, the White House has recently joined, and it’s safe to assume they’ll continue to broker relationships with more content creators as they’re proving that they are a real media property to be reckoned with.THE BASICS OF SNAPCHATSo now that you know everything there is to know about the history of the platform, let’s get down to the most important part: how the fuck do you use this thing? On every article I have written about Snapchat in the past, most of the comments come back to me saying something like “Yeah, but how the hell do I use this this?” or “It’s so confusing!”No problem. Below are some handy guides I have put together to teach you guys the basic functionalities of Snapchat, as well as some cool hacks.THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SNAP, STORY, AND CHATSo…how exactly do you define a Snap?Great question. A Snap is the main functionality of the app and is what the disappearing photos and videos are called. You send these directly to friends in the app. They last anywhere from one second up to ten seconds after being opened, then the “snap” disappears. And the difference between that and a Story is…?A Story is a collection of Snaps put together to create a, well, Story. Unlike direct Snaps, these can be viewed by anyone who follows you. When you send a Snap to your Story, it becomes public to your followers. Stories last up to 24 hours before disappearing, but still can only be up to 10 seconds long. There’s also chat right?Yep. When you swipe right on a person’s name in your direct Snap inbox, the chat function will appear. You know you’ve received a chat when a blue speech bubble appears next to someone’s name. Chats also disappear after being opened.QUICK GIF GUIDES TO USING SNAPCHATSNAPCHATTING A VIDEO V/S PHOTOHOW TO ADD FILTERS AND DOUBLE FILTERS ON SNAPCHATHOW TO USE SNAPCHAT VIDEO FILTERSHOW TO SAVE A PHOTO OR VIDEOSNAPCHAT ACCOUNTS TO FOLLOWThis is just a short list of people who are killing it on the platform. There aren’t that many yet because people still aren’t taking it seriously. So get on it now.DJ Khaled: @djkhaled305Shonduras: @shondurasCasey Neistat: @caseyneistatLACMA: @lacmaDiplo: @diploOh by the way, I’m on there too: @GaryVee.THE HISTORY OF SNAPCHAT IN ONE TIMELINE
Can I print a notice of intent form to homeschool in Nevada, fill it out, and turn it in?It's best to ask homeschoolers in your state. Every state has different laws. What works in one may not work in another. This looks like the information you need: Notice of Intent (NOI)
Can we convert an H4 visa to an F1 visa?In general, it is possible to change status from H-4 to F-1 provided that you have the appropriate (I-20) documentation from the school you intend to attend.Note that H-4 is a dual intent visa, but F-1 is not; as a result, you may be denied the change of status if USCIS concludes that you have immigrant intent.Note also that change of status only applies while you are in the United States. If you are not in the United States and have a currently valid H-4 visa, but wish to obtain an F-1 visa, you must simply apply for an (entirely new) F-1 visa. While you can reuse some of the documentary evidence you collected for the H-4 visa for the F-1 application, it will be a new application.
Do military members have to pay any fee for leave or fiancee forms?NOOOOOOO. You are talking to a military romance scammer. I received an email from the US Army that directly answers your question that is pasted below please keep reading.I believe you are the victim of a military Romance Scam whereas the person you are talking to is a foreign national posing as an American Soldier claiming to be stationed overseas on a peacekeeping mission. That's the key to the scam they always claim to be on a peacekeeping mission.Part of their scam is saying that they have no access to their money that their mission is highly dangerous. If your boyfriend girlfriend/future husband/wife is asking you to do the following or has exhibited this behavior, it is a most likely a scam:Moves to private messaging site immediately after meeting you on Facebook or SnapChat or Instagram or some dating or social media site. Often times they delete the site you met them on right after they asked you to move to a more private messaging siteProfesses love to you very quickly & seems to quote poems and song lyrics along with using their own sort of broken language, as they profess their love and devotion quickly. They also showed concern for your health and love for your family.Promises marriage as soon as he/she gets to state for leave that they asked you to pay for. They Requests money (wire transfers) and Amazon, iTune ,Verizon, etc gift cards, for medicine, religious practices, and leaves to come home, internet access, complete job assignments, help sick friend, get him out of trouble, or anything that sounds fishy. The military does provide all the soldier needs including food medical Care and transportation for leave. Trust me, I lived it, you are probably being scammed. I am just trying to show you examples that you are most likely being connned.Below is an email response I received after I sent an inquiry to the US government when I discovered I was scammed. And how to learn more about Romance Scams.Right now you can also copy the picture he gave you and do a google image search and you will hopefully see the pictures of the real person he is impersonating. this doesn't always work and take some digging. if you find the real person you can direct message them and alert them that their image is being used for scamming.Good Luck to you and I'm sorry this may be happening to you. please continue reading the government response I received below it's very informative. In Final Fantasy VII, is Jenova or Sephiroth the true villain of the story? Can the same be said of the relationship between Palpatine and Vader in Star Wars? The true villains are Hojo and SHINRA. By this I mean that these are the only villains who actively choose to harm and manipulate, while retaining total human consciousness and codes of ethics.SHINRA is a power monopoly, it has no scruples and no compassion for the poor, as evidenced by the Slums of Midgar among many other towns in Gaia. Nor does it respect the myth of the Planet’s early history, of the Cetra. In fact it will willingly seek out ‘the Promised Land’ in order to extract Mako from it. It simply seeks to grow richer and will drain and crush everything in its way. Pure elitism.Hojo values science and the pursuit of knowledge over empathy. He’s largely the reason why Sephiroth is so fucked up psychologically. Hojo encourages, if not breeds, an obsession with JENOVA in Sephiroth and the SOLDIER Project’s subjects by proxy. And if that is not fucked up enough, he is technically Sephiroth’s dad.JENOVA is a pure extraterrestrial parasite, and we’d do well to transcend human notions of morality in observing it. I say It-because JENOVA looks like a ‘she-E.T.’ but acts as a virus. Think of the Joker’s nihilistic destruction/chaos, but acted out as a program, not with malevolent motive per se. JENOVA targets the Lifestream because it’s the ideal host to spread itself. It’s not about ‘world domination’; JENOVA merely seeks to replicate itself on every planet it crashes on, indifferent to how it drains that planet’s life-force in the process.Hojo injected JENOVA cells into his pregnant wife ‘for science.’ Sephiroth was the product. Hojo raised his own son as a guinea pig for his research, and was willing to infect him with a virus he didn’t fully understand.I feel that people who typecast Sephiroth as the Big Bad miss the point of his character arc. He’s a victim of JENOVA, and his own dad, and he’s struggling with the meaninglessness of his humanoid existence (after being raised to be a war machine) as well as turning insane from falling into the Lifestream, enough to develop a god complex. Does that absolve him of being a mass murderer who planned to end the world as we know it and become a god? There are similarities between Sephiroth and JENOVA, and Vader and Palpatine. Thanks to Palpatine’s manipulation, Anakin increasingly becomes dependent on Palpatine, emotionally and post-Mustafar, physically too for his armour with its life-support system. But there aren’t as many similarities as you think. Sidious is a humanoid life-form, JENOVA is not. Palpatine was a lot more cognisant of his ‘dark side’ in our human sense; he actively embraced it, rationalising it much the same way that Hojo did, that some beings were meant to have access to ‘unlimited power ‘JENOVA ‘manipulated’ Sephiroth no more than the flu manipulates us into feeling sick. (In fact, ultimately Sephiroth controlled JENOVA.)Therefore I consider Palpatine/Sidious and Hojo to be more ‘villainous,’ that is, malevolent and inhumane whilst understanding they could reject the proverbial Dark Side.
Does a narcissist ever worry that one day they will go too far or chose to inflict abuse on the wrong person? Here we go again. Asking a question about narcissist as if they self reflect and have a conscience. Projecting normality on an evil entity. To ask such a question shows me that you do not understand what a narcissist is. Or you believe that narcissist are broken little children who need love and understanding . And that we should love them more and understand their pain. That they are the true victims. Reality check!! They are not victims, they are victimizers! And the only thing they are is pathetic. So wake up!!They do not have a conscience. I don't care what anyone says. They do not! They do not self reflect. They do not feel guilt. They do not feel remorse. And they most certainly do not ever contemplate the consequences of their actions. They're not broken little children trying to fill some empty void . They're not to be pitied. They cannot be fixed or cured; any more than you can teach a scorpion not to sting, or make a fish not want to swim. They simply live in the moment. They are self-destructive in nature. Caring only about satisfying their own self interests. The tactics they use; the abuse, the manipulations, the lies, are all just a means to an end. All tools used to get what they want. You are dealing with a person that has no empathy, no compassion, no ability to love, no ability to reflect, no ability to develop or maintain any emotional relationship with anyone, and no moral compass whatsoever. They can mimic these emotions, but it's only a manipulation.Consequences are of little or no importance to them. They will discard anyone at a moment's notice. They will simply move on to someone else. And they most certainly do not worry about anything. They don't lose sleep, they don't have anxiety, and they most certainly do not care about how their actions affect others.People want to project normal on everything. They want to believe that everyone is good and that if somebody does bad things they must be psychologically impaired or broken. The average person just can't accept the fact that there are evil people out there who do evil things just because they can and enjoy it. The narcissist is a perfect example of such a creature.Because narcissist use emotion to maintain a hold on their victims, most people refuse to accept the fact that the narcissist never cared, loved, or felt any emotional attachment to them whatsoever. This would force us to realize that we were conned. This would force us to realize that we fell in love with a lie.We didn't fall in love with the person, we fell in love with the illusion. They mirrored everything we wanted in regards to love from another person. They put on their masks and played the character that would best suit the situation. They never showed us what they were, they only showed us what we wanted to see.The searching for answers, the confusion, and the constant search for truth, and the relentless search for closure by the victim, is the ending result to our inability to face the reality of what they did.We willingly gave them the script to have emotional control over us. Like any good predator , they studied their prey. They observed our strengths and our weaknesses. They listened to us as we talked about our hopes and dreams. As we told them about everything that scares us. That makes us happy. Things that we hold dear. Things that were important to us. And they used that knowledge to be the perfect person at the beginning. We all fell for it. We drink the Kool-Aid. And we wanted more. We kept thinking we could get back there. We kept thinking if only we tried harder they would love us again as they did in the beginning. If only….. If only….You were never in a relationship. Not in the conventional manner. You were in a parasitic relationship. one in which one organism, the parasite, lives off of another organism, the host, harming it and possibly causing death. That person you fell in love with, never existed. That was the character they created to lure you in. To fully understand this I suggest you watch Primal Fear. The ending scene with Richard Gere and Edward Norton is one of the most profound scenes of understanding the true nature of manipulation. Edward Norton plays the character who has a split personality . Aaron is the kind sweet loving gentle boy . Roy , is the evil narcissistic devil . At the end of the movie Richard Gere's character , the lawyer , realizes the entire thing was an act to be found not guilty . He looks towards Edward Norton and says “ so there never was a Roy!” and I'm paraphrasing , to which Edward Norton replies “ you still don't get it , there was never an Aaron !”You see, there was never good in him. He created Aaron to lure Richard Gere into caring about him and making him believe that he was broken and incapable of the horrific acts that he was charged with. It is an amazing movie, but if you just Google ending scene to Primal fear, and just watch that clip, you will truly understand what I'm trying to say. There never was anything good about your narcissist. It was an aberration that they created to lure you in. Stop trying to normalize the behavior of a narcissist. You can't. Pop psychologist today want you to believe their victims and should be pitied. That they're broken little children trying to fill some void. When in actuality research shows just the opposite. The majority of people who suffer childhood trauma actually develop more empathy than most people. Look it up!The very foundation of the narcissist Behavior is that they do not fear or contemplate consequences. When you remove all that makes us human; love, compassion, understanding, emotional attachment, empathy, self-reflection, selflessness, graciousness, the narcissist is all that is left.Have you ever wondered why after researching narcissistic traits and behaviors you start to find that their actions are incredibly predictable? That's because these are instincts to them. Some narcissists are smarter than others and they're better at manipulating people. But their tactics are all the same. There's not a narcissistic School that they go to to learn these manipulative behaviors.Society created the terms so we can understand and recognize them. Terms such as: Gaslighting, triangulation, projection, passive aggressiveness, hoovering, and others. Narcissists have been doing these things long before science gave them a name.Society has conditioned us from the very beginning to ignore evil Behavior. They want us to rationalize and pity the abuser. They want us to see them as the victim.A bully is just a person that is looking for love and probably has problems at home. They're just acting out. That is total b*******!! A bully is a bully because they can. As long as they get away with it they will continue to do it. They enjoy hurting people. And when you stand up to a bully and they leave you alone; it's not because they learned some valuable lessons and have seen light, it's because they know you're not going to take it anymore. They are still going to find another victim. It's the same with a narcissist. You can unmask the narcissist. You can talk to them till you're blue in the face and tell them how much they hurt you. You can try to reason with them and explain to them how much you love them and how much their actions have affected you. It won't change anything. They do not care what you are saying. They will tell you they understand and they're sorry. They will tell you anything that you want to hear if they feel you'll stay and let them continue to abuse you. But you did not get through to them. You did not make them self reflect. You did not make then contemplate their actions. All you really did was try to expose them and make them feel shame. And you're going to pay for that if you stick around. That is why the only way to break this cycle of chaos and abuse is to just leave. Cut your losses. No contact in any form. Stop answering the phone . Block them on social media . Don't answer texts or emails . Stop thinking about what they're doing or who they're with . Stop believing you ever had a chance. Stop trying to get closure. You're never going to get it. Stop trying to get answers. You're never going to accept the truth as long as you keep believing the myth that there's hope. They're never going to hear you. They are never going to care about anything they did to you. Stop thinking you had anything special because you didn't. And for the love of God, stop thinking it was you. You didn't do anything wrong. Accept the fact that you were deceived, tricked, and played. And even if you leave, and do all the things to remove them from your life, they're still not going to look at that as a consequence. They will move on. They will play the victim. And their life will continue to go on as it always has. But you will be free. And do not think for one moment that you will be able to warn their next victim. Would you have listened?Life is too short. Stop trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. You can't win. Throw the damn game away. Use the knowledge and the wisdom that you have gained from this experience to never repeat the same mistakes again. Because once you look behind the curtain; you see that the “Great Oz” was only a man deceiving everyone, you really do start to see things more clearly.
