How do police address racial bias in 'call outs' (neighbors being more likely to call the police to report 'suspicious' activity of a minority in a segregated neighborhood)?
When I worked as a 9-1-1 operator there was a line of questioning developed to determine the priority of the call. These calls usually originated in a certain part of the city and the person calling usually reported a Black or Latino person acting "suspiciously." Well 9-1-1 operators wanted to catch the bad guys, too. So we would try to determine what the "suspicious" behavior was. Was the person looking into car windows? House windows? Were they walking down the street? They would report a Black or Latino male who was walking down the street or sitting in his car eating lunch. We erred on the safe side and would put out an information only call. Officers are aware of crime trends in the area and if an area has been experiencing a higher number of vehicle or house burglaries, then the information broadcast might be useful to the car that is patrolling that area. One night a woman called from the West side of the city, frantic because she heard a noise on the side of her house. There was a car nearby and we sent on a possible prowler at the location, no suspect description. We told her the police were on the way and to call back if she had a description. She called back. "I have a description!" "Yes Ma'am, is the suspect Black, White, Latino or Asian?" "They're two of them, and... and they are Black!" "What color shirt and pants are they wearing?" "They're both wearing dark clothing! Where are the police! Oh my God!!! They are on the side of my house looking around! Get the police out here now! Hello? Hello?" "Unit at ____ the P/R is on the line. She describes the suspects as two male Blacks wearing dark clothing on the side of the house right now." "Control, that's us. The P/R is describing us. We're two Black officers. We're wearing dark clothing, our uniform. Tell the P/R to open the door and come out and talk to us. The noise she's reporting is a tree branch." The operators had it easy, it's a tougher call for an officer. Err on the side of safety and treat people respectfully and hope that situation turns out okay for everyone. My motto, everyone gets to go home.

How do US ground troops avoid accidentally calling an airstrike on themselves, or avoid mis-reporting a set of coordinates?
Back in the old days [Vietnam], the primary responsibility for preventing a friendly fire, blue-on-blue incident rested with the airborne Forward Air Controller (FAC), flying his light observation aircraft above the battle. He would be intimately familiar with the target area; He would know where the enemy and the friendlies were. This FAC would be in direct contact with both the friendly troops on the ground, and the air strike assets waiting above to attack. The commander on the ground would request to the FAC where he wanted the strike. Once he and the FAC were on the same page and agreed, the FAC would launch a white phosphorous rocket to designate the intended point of attack. If his “Willy Pete” rocket was off target, he would give the strike aircraft where to drop by giving direction and distance from where his WP smoke was. Although “smart bombs” did not come into use until late in the Vietnam War, this earlier close air support provided was still surprisingly, very accurate. The ground-FAC-strike team did a lot of work together, and they did it very well. They all had a lot of practice. Anecdote: I had lunch with an old friend recently. He told me about a close air support mission he did during the battle of An Loc. The South Vietnamese officer on the ground was about to be overrun by North Vietnamese troops. The officer calls the FAC above, who in turn called my friend in an F-4 to strike very close the friendly troops, and my friend did. Nevertheless there was another frantic call to drop dangerously close as they were being overrun, which he again did.My friend said the third desperate and incredible request was to drop not close but right on their very own position…. And my friend did. There were no more requests. No there was no more communication with anyone on the ground. It made for a somber moment, during an otherwise enjoyable lunch some 43 years later.

How do you patent a product in India?
Consider it as a four part process:-Part A: Preliminary patent research - To understand whether your invention for which you wish to patent is novel. If it is a reinvention of the wheel, you are most likely to get a rejection of your patent leading to all your investment in filing a patent going down the drain.Part B: Preparing and filing a patent application at your local patent office (say India) and then internationally, if you want to transcend your IP rights beyond India. The application will be describing your invention along with filing your claims on the invention.Part C: Convincing the patent examiners in India and countries where you file your patent that your invention is novel by providing suitable arguments and evidences during examination. If you have gone into part A, you can pre-empt this part C.Part D: Issuance of a patent and maintaining it. Renewals or maintenance is important. It is advisable to engage a patent attorney as the entire process is complex. Why do we learn things in school we don't need to know in real life?
From a teacher’s perspective, the state generally sets the curriculum frameworks, which are standards that a teacher must get their students to achieve those established standards. However, there are also additional national standards that are set by various entities. For example, national music standards are set by the National Association for Music Education (NAfME). Common Core State Standards (CCSS) is an additional set of standards that came from an act at the state level even though there was some federal influence (Source: http://www.breitbart.com/big-gov...). Common Core has not worked in my classroom based on my data.Knowing this information, the various levels establish the standards of what is to be taught in public schools. So, we are taught useless things in public schools because of the control that the state, national, and the federal level has on our public education system. In this top-down approach, the higher levels set the standards, teachers teach the standards to our students, and students try to achieve those standards. If the state and higher levels were to recommend standards that would be of greater importance (e.g., real life skills, etc.), then we would see that coming from the top for teachers to teach to our students. For those dissenters, real life skills are those skills that are not currently taught in schools but are essential to survive in our society. I would suggest these skills to be taught at the high school level, which this is just a sample list:1. How to buy a car 2. How to buy a house 3. How to balance a checkbook 4. How to fill out and pay your taxes (both EZ and long form)5. How to sign your name in cursive for signatures (schools used to teach this en masse, but has diminished over the years)6. How to properly take care of yourself7. How to succeed in job interviews (colleges provide this service, but does not teach it in classrooms—my college did not teach it) 8. How to write a successful resume and cover letter (colleges also provide this service, but does not teach it in classrooms)9. How to be able to search for careers if one does not work, and to receive the proper training to succeed10. How to budget money and plan accordingly (the military taught me this skill)11. How to cook (Home Economics used to be a norm in schools)12. How to be able to detect fraud, waste, and abuse13. How to detect scams, spoof e-mail, and how to report it14. How to have proper character and professionalism through character training (this would need to be taught throughout the school years)15. How to have proper ethical character and integrity16. How to fix and troubleshoot things

What's something that is common knowledge at your workplace, but would be mind-blowing to the rest of us?
I work in industries that are archaic. Sometimes I find some gems of facts............Logistics: Medicinal Cocaine exists and has to be tracked from "farm to fork" throughout the Supply Chain with the authorities. A single infraction can cause $10K or more. http://www.medicinenet.com/cocai...Drug Rehabilitation: There is cocaine on every dollar bill in the USA. http://articles.cnn.com/2009-08-...Baggage Scanning: If a low level engineer wants to sneak a gun onto a plane, it's not impossible. The TSA baggage scanners scan baggage from only one direction:Rubber Industry: There are metal threads in tires. This blew my mind when I found out.Food Irradiation: I can extend the shelf life of strawberries by 21 days. http://www.extension.iastate.edu...Poultry: Chicken in the USA has a different texture because it is salt- water plumped to increase weight and fetch more dollars at market. http://www.saynotoplumping.com/Paper: There exists paper cutting algorithms for the paper industry that when employed if they save a single inch on the way a ream of paper is cut, can equate to millions of dollars a year in savings. http://www.wseas.us/e-library/co...Textiles: It is possible to make anti-microbial fiber by lacing it with silver. http://www.infectionpreventionte...Telecom: Anytime a new wireless product is released to telecom providers, there are about 7 teams that look at and evaluate the technology. One of those teams is dedicated to wiretapping. This fact is well known in telecom.Pharmaceuticals: It doesn't cost billions of dollars to develop a drug. It is actually much less. Anyone in the industry knows this based on lab equipment costs and the IRR etc.... http://www.techdirt.com/articles... It doesn’t get cheaper to develop drugs, but more expensive because the hunt for drug targets is a black swan. Even if you get more data, it gets harder. It confounds things especially given the lack of longitudinal healthcare data available to drug discovery folks.Elevators: There exists a whole science behind the optimal dispatching of elevators meant to maximize the efficiency of loads called "elevator dispatch algorithms."Cartography: The mercator map should be taken in stride with the fact that it is a certain angle/projection. Was working with a geologist who does mapping and surveying when I learned about this fact. This fact was released in the US TV Show the West Wing. http://bl.ocks.org/3711652 is also a good source to see the difference between projections on the map.Drug & Alcohol Rehab: There are three roots to any evaluation of a poison. Dosage. Potency. and Root of Exposure. When we look at the ban of DDT and the faulty science used to justify its banning, we can look to these 3 roots and analyze the situation. The same goes for radiation or pretty much anything else that is described by non-scientific muckrackers.Security/Hanging out with White Hat Hackers: NFC tags are incredibly insecure. http://www.themobileindian.com/n...Pharmaceutical Cold Storage: Temperature sensitive drugs that are biologics are super expensive. Snake Antivenom can cost as much as $120K for 13 treatments and it has to be temperature controlled. Protherics manufactures it with a flock of 3000 sheep in Australia, 8000 snakes in the Amazon, and some labs. Provgen, a prostate cancer drug, costs $90K for 36 treatments.Events: The founder of SpinGo | Comprehensive Event Calendar mentioned that for ever 1000 people in a city there is 1 event a month. This remains true throughout the USA. In NYC, there are 15M people, and 15,000 public events a month.Numbers by Country: The word billion means something different in America than it does in the Europe. Only in the UK and USA do billion mean the same thing. Be cognizant of this if you're doing international business.Prisones on Planes: Prisoners on US planes always wear jackets, a green set of handcuffs that are concealed by the jacket, and always board first with their transportation security professional, usually a contractor. The contractor usually carries multiple phone chargers and has a military background. There have been edge case scenarios where prisoners have escaped the security contractor and walked straight out of the airport. The TSA turns a blind eye from my rudimentary understanding.Tennis- There's a company that is paid $50K a year to string pro rackets. It's called Priority One. Players like Nadal and others pony up 50K for specially customized weighting. Most people who have been playing their whole lives notice small weight differentiations because when rackets are produced in mass the variation in weight or design will yield noticeably different results for pro tennis players.Manufacturing- There's over 3000 different types of steel and 80% of them were developed in the last 20 years. (2015)Pharmaceuticals - The cost of making a new drug doubles every 9 years. Eroom's law.Aeronautics- Square-cube law. As the area of a wing grows (mm) and its volume and weight grow cubically (mm*m).

How can we fight against the NRA regarding gun control?
Are you sure that the NRA is the problem?Oh, I know that the media and the talking heads are all making them out to be some 500 lb gorilla and the reason psychos shoot up school yards, but have you ever bothered to look into the matter beyond the headlines?I’ll give you an example. In 2017, the push was for a “Universal Background Check”. The idea was to be sure that people buying guns were not criminals. Believe it or not, the NRA wholly supports this and in fact was involved with creating the current NICS (National Instant Check System) that is used. But the bill that was proposed was not what you heard in the media. First, it would not plug any “Gunshow Loophole” because there is no such thing. The only sales at a gun show that the bill covered was private sales. Of course, private sales can occur anywhere, not just gun shows. But the bill didn’t make the NICS easier for private sales. They just required all private sales to be conducted through a licensed dealer. Had this actually passed, a gun show would be an ideal location for such sales as there would be access to many dealer. In effect, you would greatly increase the number of private sales at a gun show by this law.So, what is involved with a sale through a dealer? Well, the dealer would have to do the following:1) Record the transfer in their bound book. This is a book where all the transactions of a firearm is recorded via that dealer. The book is auditable by the BATF and many dealers have faced fines for poorly kept records, so many dealers go to great pains to keep their book neat and accurate.2) Fill out the federal form 4473. This is required by all dealer sales of both new and used guns. It asks for the buyer’s name, address, the make and model of the gun, serial number, and then asks a bunch of questions. The dealer can get fined if the person fills out the form wrong. For example, answering a question with “Y” or “N” instead of “Yes” or “No” is a BATF violation. So the dealer has to carefully examine the form for errors and have the person fill out another if errors are found.3) The dealer then calls into the NICS. NICS can come back with a “Proceed”, “Denied” or “Delay”. A delay can take up to 3 days. Typically this is a name that appears similar to a Prohibited Person and requires some research. If this happens, the transfer is on hold. The dealer has no idea when the result of the research is likely to finish. If you are at a gun show, the show could be over before the approval is made.4) All this paperwork, verification, etc takes time. Time is money. So dealers charge for this service. It is typical for a dealer to charge $25-$40 per gun, but sometimes multiple guns get a discount because the dealer can process up to 4 on a single form, but when more than one gun is transferred, the dealer has to fill out Form 3310 which is supposed to help with gun trafficking. All of this is well and good if you are buying a gun from someone you don’t know and many people will require sales be conducted at a dealer for the piece of mind such protections provide. But friends and family typically do not bother with the hassle and expense. One thing you need to realize is that to get a gun dealer license is not an easy process. Since the federal government cracked down on so called “kitchen table” dealers back in the 1980’s, you now must show a commercially zoned storefront with posted business hours to qualify. Many communities don’t want gun shops, and use zoning laws to make them difficult or unattractive. For example the city of Boston does not have any dealers. In fact, the nearest dealer is 3 towns away. Many rural areas don’t have the traffic to keep a dealer in business and you’ll find they are typically only open in the evening or on a Saturday as they work another full time job. Keep this in mind as we get into the next issue. But the bill didn’t stop at sales. It stated that ALL transfers had to be done in this manner. No exceptions. So, two friends out on a hunt would need to go through the whole process listed above just to swap guns for the afternoon. Oh, and they would have to do it all again to give the gun back. It is very common on a range to try out other people’s guns - such a thing would also require the full transfer and back process. Demo guns at a national event by manufacturers? Same thing.Basically any time a gun were to swap hands, the law would apply. There are private shooting clubs where guns are treated like library books and members take whatever they want. Families regularly swap guns. Heck, some shooting courses provide guns for students to use. All of these events would have been impacted by these new transfer requirements. The NRA balked at this. Essentially the rule would curtail many of the traditions and practices that are very common and virtually never result in any kind of criminal activity. In essence it would criminalize things that simply are not crimes. Not only would it create criminals where no criminal intent existed, but the cost to manage the volume of temporary transfers, the staffing needed to take the calls and do the checks would have cost millions each year. All money that would not go toward actually dealing with criminals. When the issue was brought up, many members of Congress agreed the requirements were too restrictive and the whole bill failed to pass. The supporters of the bill did not even attempt to listen to the complaints and work out a manageable fix.Did you hear any of that in the media? But what about catching criminals?Well, the bill didn’t change anything in regards to enforcing the rules to make sure the people who should not own guns were properly entered into NICS. In fact, other than maybe getting fired, there is NO PENALTY for failing to report a person. We have laws that will jail a teacher or coach that fail to report bullies. We have laws that put priests in prison who fail to report potential inappropriate behaviors in other clergy. But we do not have any laws that punish law enforcement agents that fail to do their job and make sure that dangerous people are reported to the background system. And this bill made no effort to change that.NICS is not open to anyone but federally licensed gun dealers. The left are so worried that the system might be used to check people for things other than guns that they refuse to create a means to allow people to verify someone they are selling a gun to. It would be easy to create an app that takes a photo of the buyer and seller’s ID (or just their faces and type in some data) and then return a simple “Proceed” or “Deny” with no other details. You’d have plenty of information to audit for illegal use. And if someone didn’t have an ID, they could then use a dealer. Heck, you can’t file taxes on-line without submitting some kind of ID, so this isn’t anything unique. And yet, the bill did nothing to address the issue of accessing the NICS for easier private sales. Here is the thing. We have 20,000 gun laws in this country. On the federal side, a prohibited person touching a gun could see them in prison for a minimum of 5 years. And yet, we still see cities with high violent crime rates that have virtually no federal cases. Why isn’t law enforcement using those stiff federal laws to get the violent people off the streets? Such a program called “Project Exile” worked wonders in Richmond, VA to reduce violent crime dramatically.OK, back to the “Universal Background Check” bill.I spent a lot of words above explaining what the bill would have required of people and why the situation would have been a nightmare. You never saw any of this in the news and the media pretty much ignored the issue. When the bill was defeated, it was never reported that a “terrible bill that would have cost millions and made criminals out of the innocent was defeated”, instead, all you ever heard was“The NRA used its influence to defeat the Universal Background Check bill that would have closed the gunshow loophole”Almost everything about that statement is false. So, be careful what you want to “Fight Against”. I suspect that most of what you think about the NRA is highly biased due to the way the organization is treated in the media. When you look at the actual facts, many times their concerns are quite valid. And, they have a lot of rank and file law enforcement on their side which helps them represent real world situations. I’ve found their positions in many cases very well presented. Most of the arguments you get on TV news are highly edited and taken out of context to promote an agenda, not facilitate a debate.Make sure you know what you are fighting for. You might be surprised.

What is one ridiculous reason for which you got kicked out of class?
So in 8th grade Orchestra….I was the most advanced student by far. Honestly…I had been playing almost 3 times as long as the other students…yeah. So this Director, K, and I didn’t and still don’t get along well at all. He was a horrible teacher and quite mean to us. Degrading achievements, telling us to shut up, etc. Just point-blank mean. I wasn’t the oldest, and yeah actually one of the smallest, but I was concert master, and it’s not in my nature to take shit from people.I would always be an asshole back. I’d talk back, play after he cut off, talk while he was talking, basically piss him off! And man we got into many heated discussions and he never sent me out. One day with 10 minutes to the bell we finished rehearsing a piece.Seeing as it was nearing the end of the class I asked, “Are we done?” As he was deciding what piece to play next.He goes with a bitchy attitude, “Do you want to be done?”“Yeah.” The room goes quiet.“Well what time is it?”I look at my watch in an asshole way and the room holds in laughter, “It’s 8:31.”He looks at me.I respond, “A.M.”“If you want to be done so bad, just leave.” He demanded.“Sure.” I responded, promptly packed my instrument and walked out. I went to my next class. The next day he pulls me aside before class.“Why do you have to say those things in class?” He asks, “Is it because you think you’re so much better than everyone else? Is the music too easy for you?”“Look, I could care less about being better than anyone in here, this is a middle school orchestra. I’m fine playing easy music if it’s challenging for them, so they can learn.” I explained, “I don’t play in this orchestra so that I can be the best, I play in here because I love playing violin and I want to help others learn too.”“Start acting like it, then.” He turns.“Me start acting like it?” I asked, “Who taught them vibrato? Who taught them rhythm? And who walks them through each piece? You play the violin worse than most beginners, I don’t know what you’re complaining to me about. Isn’t it your job to teach them how to play and to actually know your shit?”He stared at me, obviously unnerved he was being lectured by a 14 year old.“All you do is hobble your big ass in here and start ordering us around and being outright mean. Show us some respect and maybe I won’t have to stand up for my friends or do your job for you.” I responded.“Get back inside.” He ordered.“I must admit, of all the things you could have sent me out for, asking if we were finished was the dumbest.” I responded, and walked back in class, the students awaiting to hear what happened.Few days I unhinged him again and got kicked out.As he worked with the Violas I was chatting with a friend, he turns to me and says, “Shut up.”I respond, “You’re not my father, don’t talk to me like you are.”I spontaneously turned to finish my previous sentence amongst laughs from the others.“Get out of here.” He said. This time there were still 40 minutes left in the class! That summer my mom organized us a meeting with the counselor. It was uneventful until he tried to tell me why I’m so ‘rebellious’.K: “I understand if you’re frustrated with the world and have to take it out on something, that just doesn’t have to be my class.”Me: “Who says I’m frustrated with the world.”K: “Well when I was your age, I was a loser too.”Me: “I don’t see what makes me a loser. I’ve obviously beat you and I everyone in orchestra has my back.”I got up and walked away.Anyways, after freshman year in high school…rougher for him than for me, I can promise you that…I quit because I just couldn’t take him anymore.A week before…well first off I wasn’t concert master, I was second chair to a Junior girl who was absolutely fantastic. The week before my last day in the class, we had our last concert of the school year. He offered me a measure of solo for it. I said, “No. That’s as close as you’ll ever get to punching me in the face.” It was honestly rude…On my last day of Orchestra I gave out a speech in front of the whole class, my friends and I announced it as some “venting”:“I would say ladies and gentlemen, but this one is for you Mr. K. Let me start off there, somewhere along they misspelled your name because it's obviously supposed to be Cunt. (they rhyme) I'm not even sure that's where you came from... Let me just tell you this, you piss me the fuck off. Your big ass mouth, and the fact that you can think you can scold me, which you can't cuz you're not my father, really shows what a stubborn motherfucker you are. They usually say, son of a bitch, but that's what they say to your son. You said he's fussy, he probably saw who his father was... Your conducting is so poor that I'd rather listen to someone taking a loud, stinky, soggy shit than to your orchestra. Oh yeah, about that, you were supposed to be a band director, but you turned out to be the last resort orchestra conductor... Unqualified as you are, you're still a load of shit! You think that because you stand up there, that you're in control, but it's the students who make the class, and we all fucking hate you. You're just a cocky prick aren't you? Strutting you're big ass everywhere and when you play bass looking so arrogant. I just turned 15 and have played violin longer than you have played bass... You sick bastard are going to be a terrible father... Enjoy fucking up generations of kids to come, my life was already fucked up and somehow you made it worse! If I'm having a good day, I walk into you're class and I see this big ass standing up there, cocky as hell tryna tell me what to do. You have you're own child, he's yours to fuck up. I know it's not cool to insult your son, but you called me a loser anyways, funny that your shit comes back around. *cough* *cough* your pullout game.” After an applause and a nervous smile he asked me to his office. He asked me, “Why?”“Quite frankly, you’ve put us through hell, and ruined my orchestral experience. Music is beautiful and almost impervious, but somehow you found a way to mess it all up.”K: “I’m sure there’s some ways we can improve, we could use you in this orchestra.”“I’m sorry, but I honestly despise you.”And I headed out.I’m a senior now, we both play in our local Universities’ orchestra. We see each other every now and then. I know and he knows he was wrong in how he treated us, and that I won. But he still does it! Pathetic. Anyways 20 more orchestra members dropped out with me and 8 more this year…without me, no one stands up to him. Sad.Wow my longest Quora ever!

What would have been the best way for Walter White to keep the 100 Million?
There’s a reason drug dealers store cash in storage units and paint buckets, because it’s not easy laundering money. What could Walter have done? Let’s go through his options one by one:Option 1: Although the The Bank Secrecy Act (1970) requires banks to report transactions above $10,000, Walter could have employed Smurfs (drug mules, but for cash) to make thousands of tiny deposits, which would draw less attention from authorities.Problem: Walter did not have a criminal organization to carry this out. What’s he going to do if a smurf runs off with his money, send Jesse after him with a bong?Option 2: Buy high-ticket items such as vintage comic books or supercars and sell them later.Problem: Similar to the Bank Secrecy Act, businesses have to file a Form 8300, “Report of Cash Payments Over $10,000 Received in a Trade or Business”. Even if those reports don’t alarm the IRS, the large transfers from other people who he would sell the goods would raise red flags, and he’s back to square one.Option 3: Get the money out of the country through casinos or smuggling diamonds.Problem: Even if Walter succeeds in laundering the money while overseas (gamble at a casino and cash out the chips in Macau, for example), he still needs to deposit the clean money at a foreign bank. Unfortunately for Walt, the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (2010) requires Americans living outside the U.S. to file yearly reports on their non-U.S. financial accounts to the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FINCEN). Banks outside the U.S. are required to fill out a “Know Your Customer” form when you open an account – someone like Walter would immediately raise concerns. This is why many banks in Europe won’t even let Americans open a bank account.Option 4: Invest in the stock market as the OP suggests.Problem: Same thing, any brokerage firm would be obligated to file a Suspicious activity report (SAR) if Walter were to make large deposits that is not commensurate with his income as a high school chemistry teacher.Option 5: Hire a “professional” to do the money laundering, there must be a smart guy who knows how to set up “offshore” bank accounts and stuff.Problem: Money Laundering Control Act (1986) makes money laundering a crime in itself instead of just an element of another crime, so even Saul Goodman would think twice about getting involved with money laundering. And as for finding an export, in 1996, Harvard-educated economist Franklin Jurado was sentenced to 7 1/2 years in prison for laundering $36m for a Colombian cartel. Conclusion: Money laundering was always an afterthought for Walter – he was too busy dealing with the day-to-day stuff of manufacturing and distributing drugs. Walter might have been able to launder that $100m if he had devoted more time and resources into the project, but ultimately, the results might not necessarily be better than burying the money in the desert. His goal was to provide for his family, and barrels of money in the desert does exactly that.—————Edit 1: A few comments have mentioned smuggling the cash (or converted to gold) out to to other countries. I think somehow the idea of the “open sea” implies lawlessness, but it doesn’t. The U.S. Custom and Border Protection has strict Reporting Requirements for pleasure boats, not to mention inspections. If that weren’t the case, people would be smuggling drugs willy-nilly across U.S. borders. However, I’m reminded of the 2001 Movie Heist, starring Gene Hackman as a con-artist. At the very end of the movie, spoiler alert, he took the elicit gold bars, melt them into yacht rails and painted over them, thus avoiding detection.Edit 2: Remi Alaiti pointed out that Saul Goodman did offer to help them launder the money through nail salons (as we know now he got the idea from his Jimmy McGill days), so I stand corrected. However, like the car wash, the nail salon would be too small potatoes to make a signNow dent laundering the $80m.Edit 3: As for Bitcoins, it’s less secure than burying money in the desert. See Jonathan Chen's answer to Should I invest in Bitcoin? for details.*I maintain that Walter original purpose for manufacturing was to provide for his family, thus the money would’ve had to stay in the country. In time, if his wife and son were on board, they could’ve opened more car washes, nail salons, and other cash-heavy businesses, say, Los Pollos Hermanos franchises, to slowly launder the money.

Why are we taught useless things in school instead of things that will actually help us and are important?
This one’s a no-brainer.Here’s the big secret that nobody seems to notice. Schools are NOT here to educate people. They are here to indoctrinate, condition and institutionalize people. Child education is based on a 600-year-old German shame-based model, and “higher” education is based on the way The Church educated the sons of the Nobility.Back in Medieval times, things were pretty rigid. The first-born was expected to inherit the title, lands, power, etc. of his father. They usually urged the second-born and third-born to enter either the military or the priesthood, not in any particular order. THEN they had the “leftovers.” Needless to say, women got ZERO education. They had to do SOMETHING with these extra kids, who were, up until early adulthood, just hanging out and sponging off the family fortune. So, they invented a profession called “Scholar.” This is what inspired what we now call “Liberal Arts.” The illusion was that the kid would end up well-rounded, and occasionally become professors themselves. Attend any modern graduation ceremony, and pay close attention to the clothing worn by the professors. You will see garb that reminds you of King Arthur movies. As to childhood education, at one time it happened in small, one-room schools, usually with ONE “schoolmarm” and kids were taught the basics of reading, writing, geography, history, etc. If they weren’t able to learn easily, they’d be beaten HARD, then forced to stand or sit in a corner with a tall, conical hat that said “dunce” on it. The other kids were encouraged to openly heckle and shame the kid. Not a great environment for those with learning disabilities to say the least. They also introduced a very special shaming mechanism. It was called “grades.” Grades were a diabolical way to compare students against each other, as if there were some ideal level of knowledge that all kids “should” be able to attain. It had NOTHING to do with knowledge, and it served ONLY to pit the kids against each other in unhealthy competition, and shame them regularly for not measuring up. It did NOTHING to measure how a kid was progressing. That would have been best accomplished by figuring out a measuring system that measured improvement, rather than attainment of a rigid line. Then, the industrial revolution happened. Our Eastern cities were filled with immigrants, and manufacturing jobs were plentiful. It was common, of course, for kids as young as 8 to be working up to 16 hours a day with NO safety protocols. Extreme injuries were common, as was workplace violence and sexual abuse. The managers had almost total control over the workers, because they held the purse strings to their livelihood. Coercing women into sex was routine in many cases. But, you say, what happened to the YOUNGER kids? Well, they had to do something with them, so the parents could be kept harnessed to the factories. So some wonderful philanthropist Robber Baron coughed up a FEW bucks, and founded the Public School System. Even today, in NYC, the schools are called “PS 123” or something similar. These were ugly, prison-like structures, with little to no access to textbooks, skilled teachers, or any such “luxuries” as art, music, science, etc. They were nothing more than warehouses to park the kids in while mom, dad, and older sibs slaved away. They also had a less obvious agenda. Here’s an idea! Let’s use the Public Schools as training centers to prepare the kids to become employees! Let’s present them with so much arbitrary bullshit that their minds are COMPLETELY numb by the time they are ready to work. We won’t have any of that “Union” nonsense out of THESE brats! Why, by the time they get out of school, they will have completely given up on having any original ideas at all! They will simply do what they’re told, WHEN they’re told, and not complain about the peanuts we pay them. If there ARE a few bright ones, we’ll hammer them down to size before they’re old enough to shave! So, 150-ish years have passed, and not much has changed. Oh, they include more classes now, though the music and art have AGAIN gone by the wayside. They STILL use grading to shame the kids. Until about 50 years ago, they were allowed to beat the kids with a stick! Now they just use subtle psychological tricks and intense pharmaceutical drugs to melt the little kiddie’s brains. And the goal is still the same — turn out generation after generation of human beings who have been systematically steered AWAY from their dreams. AWAY from creative thinking, AWAY from critical thinking. That pesky stuff causes SO many problems for the wealthy CEO’s! You just can’t IMAGINE how hard it is for those poor, beleaguered Plutocrats.Bottom line, if you want your kids to have an actual education, home school them, and avoid repeating the mistakes of the schools. Un-schooling is a thing now, and it’s excellent. There are lots of names for it; project-based, experiential learning, un-schooling, free schooling, etc. What it does is to actually create an environment that STARTS with what the kid wants to learn, and helps them devise a project that will require an obvious level of math, physics, reading, writing, research, creative and critical thinking, and on it goes. It’s true that a 5th grade AGE kid might not know the exact same things at the same time as the school kid, but he or she will eventually find reasons to learn it all by the time they are ready to work. Few of them will get jobs. They are much more likely to do something entrepreneurial, or enter the creative arts. I suggest that this is possible the only situation left that might produce another Einstein. There might have been some potential geniuses when they started school, but all that will be swirling the drain in just a few years of conditioning.Great question, BTW!
