Why don't unemployed people, who have the means and the resources, try to start a business while looking for jobs?
I have been unemployed since last May, and I'll give my reasons here. I graduated from college last May, with great grades and a pretty impressive resume, but I have yet to find a job. Since then, however, I have, on multiple occassions, considered starting my business. The reasons I outline below, however, are not particular to me. It is likely that anyone unemployed might have the same reasons for not starting a business. 1. Lack of a Strong Support Network While this is not the biggest reason that I haven't chosen this path, it is certainly a very large obstacle, and it takes a great deal of personal strenght, fortitude, and conviction to overcome. I lack a strong support network for starting a business. By this, I mean my family and friends are not absolutely supportive of the idea. Almost everyone in my personal social network works a full-time job or goes to graduate school. Very few of my friends parents own their own businesses. The few that do are all professional businesses, such as a private law or accounting practice. This of course, is because of my physical environment. I live in a suburban, middle class town, where risks are not encourage, and where their is a strong social pressure to "obtain gainful employment". My parents work with people who ask them about my employment, as do family friends, relatives, etc. To overcome this hurdle takes enormous personal strength and resolve. Even if I had a million dollar idea, or I had a particular skillset, it would take enormous personal conviction and confidence to be able to convince myself, my family, my friends, and everyone in my immediate network that I am capable of success in this endeavor. Without a strong social network to support me and encourage me to take the plunge, I don't think I could ever be successful. A business owner needs his friends and family to support him in tough times, to help him gain business, etc, and unless they have total confidence in you, they will not support you. My own social network knows me well, and although they think I am intelligent and driven, I don't think they would ever encourage entrepreneurship at my age. Note, besides social support, I also lack a strong network of individuals who could help me with my endeavor. Even if I was going to start a small business making a product or providing a service, I would need help in learning how to acquire customers, track expenses, pay taxes, and establish myself as a business. Despite my degree in business from a reputable university, I don't have the knowledge base to jump right in on my own. 2. Lack of Capial, both financial and intellectual This is another major concern. Even if I could clear the first hurdle, I did not see myself having the financial or intellectual capital to succeed. By intellectual capital, I mean a specific skill set. Many times I thought to myself, "hey, I could learn {pick one: database skills, programming, SEO, social media strategy}, and then start my own business!" Yet, a lack of experience in any of those things would mean it would take some time to move up the learning curve to a point where I could actually add value for a customer. Furthermore, finding customers as a service-oriented business would be tough, since competition is intense from more established, credible people. My other thought was to start a product business. For example, I have been playing drums for ten years, and after some research, I learned that building drums is not a difficult endeavor. With a drill press, some shells, and some finishing materials, I could build interesting looking drum kits, and sell them at an enormous discount compared to similar kits built by established companies. With my background in business, I could employ social media and marketing strategy to win over customers. To me, this is similar to many people starting businesses on etsy, or on ebay, selling a product with which they are very familiar. The problem, of course, is start-up costs. Now, it is signNowly lower to start a drum business today than it would have been 15 years ago. I can purchase all the drum shells online, for say 500, plus another 100-200 for finishing materials and some other random costs. I could rent or buy a drill press for 100, and then start building. Still, its 800 to shell out, just to see if this is something I could learn to do, since I've never built a kit before. While I do think I can do it, it is a signNow risk given my budget. Sure, I could eventually sell kits for 1200, but to do that would require building a reputation, and building a reputation means building kits, which I don't have the money to do right now. The time and monetary commitment required to signNow a point where I could actually make a decent margin would make me go insolvent before I signNowed it. I've considered other product businesses as well, such as selling candles online, where I could make ridiculous profit margins if I learned to make them well. Once again, social stigma played a role, in addition to the lack of experience. While I could learn to program, build drums, or make candles, all of these would require a time commitment to move up the learning curve, and would support from my social network, which is currently non-existant. 3. Lack of Passion The final hurdle of course, is a lack of passion. I've tried programming before, and honestly, it is not something I love to do. Honestly, anyone out of work right now could spend all their time learning to program, and could get either freelance or gainful employment as a result. Yet, it is not for everyone. In fact, its probably not for most people. I'm much more interested in solving people problems than I am in solving engineering or technical problems, and thus I thought it would be a waste of time to pursue this. The same is true of making candles. It could be profitable if I learned to do it well, but I've never done it before, and I don't see myself having any passion for it. I could see myself enjoying working with drums, but I still don't know that for certain. People want to buy from a business where the owner has passion; where he or she is proud of his company, and enjoys working there. Perhaps I haven't found that business yet, but I personally think that the work I would be passionate about would be working for a company, at least for the time being. Until then, I can dream about starting a business, but I don't think it represents a realistic opportunity Conclusion tl;dr If an individual lacks strong social support, financial capital, experience, or passion, or he she will not succeed in a particular endeavor. While it seems easy to say "start a business", the reality is much more difficult.

Do military members have to pay any fee for leave or fiancee forms?
NOOOOOOO. You are talking to a military romance scammer. I received an email from the US Army that directly answers your question that is pasted below please keep reading.I believe you are the victim of a military Romance Scam whereas the person you are talking to is a foreign national posing as an American Soldier claiming to be stationed overseas on a peacekeeping mission. That's the key to the scam they always claim to be on a peacekeeping mission.Part of their scam is saying that they have no access to their money that their mission is highly dangerous. If your boyfriend girlfriend/future husband/wife is asking you to do the following or has exhibited this behavior, it is a most likely a scam:Moves to private messaging site immediately after meeting you on Facebook or SnapChat or Instagram or some dating or social media site. Often times they delete the site you met them on right after they asked you to move to a more private messaging siteProfesses love to you very quickly & seems to quote poems and song lyrics along with using their own sort of broken language, as they profess their love and devotion quickly. They also showed concern for your health and love for your family.Promises marriage as soon as he/she gets to state for leave that they asked you to pay for. They Requests money (wire transfers) and Amazon, iTune ,Verizon, etc gift cards, for medicine, religious practices, and leaves to come home, internet access, complete job assignments, help sick friend, get him out of trouble, or anything that sounds fishy. The military does provide all the soldier needs including food medical Care and transportation for leave. Trust me, I lived it, you are probably being scammed. And how to learn more about Romance Scams.Right now you can also copy the picture he gave you and do a google image search and you will hopefully see the pictures of the real person he is impersonating. this doesn't always work and take some digging. if you find the real person you can direct message them and alert them that their image is being used for scamming.Good Luck to you and I'm sorry this may be happening to you. please continue reading the government response I received below it's very informative. You have contacted an email that is monitored by the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command. Unfortunately, this is a common concern. We assure you there is never any reason to send money to anyone claiming to be a Soldier online. If you have only spoken with this person online, it is likely they are not a U.S. Soldier at all. How can I fill out Google's intern host matching form to optimize my chances of receiving a match?
I was selected for a summer internship 2016.I tried to be very open while filling the preference form: I choose many products as my favorite products and I said I'm open about the team I want to join.I even was very open in the location and start date to get host matching interviews (I negotiated the start date in the interview until both me and my host were happy.) You could ask your recruiter to review your form (there are very cool and could help you a lot since they have a bigger experience).Do a search on the potential team. Before the interviews, try to find smart question that you are going to ask for the potential host (do a search on the team to find nice and deep questions to impress your host). Prepare well your resume. You are very likely not going to get algorithm/data structure questions like in the first round. It's going to be just some friendly chat if you are lucky. If your potential team is working on something like machine learning, expect that they are going to ask you questions about machine learning, courses related to machine learning you have and relevant experience (projects, internship). Of course you have to study that before the interview. Take as long time as you need if you feel rusty. It takes some time to get ready for the host matching (it's less than the technical interview) but it's worth it of course.

Why don't schools teach children about taxes and bills and things that they will definitely need to know as adults to get by in life?
Departments of education and school districts always have to make decisions about what to include in their curriculum. There are a lot of life skills that people need that aren't taught in school. The question is should those skills be taught in schools?I teach high school, so I'll talk about that. The typical high school curriculum is supposed to give students a broad-based education that prepares them to be citizens in a democracy and to be able to think critically. For a democracy to work, we need educated, discerning citizens with the ability to make good decisions based on evidence and objective thought. In theory, people who are well informed about history, culture, science, mathematics, etc., and are capable of critical, unbiased thinking, will have the tools to participate in a democracy and make good decisions for themselves and for society at large. In addition to that, they should be learning how to be learners, how to do effective, basic research, and collaborate with other people. If that happens, figuring out how to do procedural tasks in real life should not provide much of a challenge. We can't possibly teach every necessary life skill people need, but we can help students become better at knowing how to acquire the skills they need. Should we teach them how to change a tire when they can easily consult a book or search the internet to find step by step instructions for that? Should we teach them how to balance a check book or teach them how to think mathematically and make sense of problems so that the simple task of balancing a check book (which requires simple arithmetic and the ability to enter numbers and words in columns and rows in obvious ways) is easy for them to figure out. If we teach them to be good at critical thinking and have some problem solving skills they will be able to apply those overarching skills to all sorts of every day tasks that shouldn't be difficult for someone with decent cognitive ability to figure out. It's analogous to asking why a culinary school didn't teach its students the steps and ingredients to a specific recipe. The school taught them about more general food preparation and food science skills so that they can figure out how to make a lot of specific recipes without much trouble. They're also able to create their own recipes. So, do we want citizens with very specific skill sets that they need to get through day to day life or do we want citizens with critical thinking, problem solving, and other overarching cognitive skills that will allow them to easily acquire ANY simple, procedural skill they may come to need at any point in their lives?
