Purdue has the oldest computer science department in the US, and possibly the world. We have a number of leading scholars in several subfields of CS -- especially in information security, databases, and knowledge engineering.Purdue is currently ranked in the top 20 universities in the world in CS.What is a bit interesting about Purdue CS is that our faculty working in computing are actually spread across 5 departments in 4 colleges -- CS is not in engineering, but in the College of Science. We do have computer engineering, as well as a department of computer & networking technology, a department of computer graphics, and an MIS faculty. If all these were together in one administrative department, we would probably be in the top 3 departments in the field.That said, there are some areas where we don't have a lot of leading-edge researchers -- robotics, for example.Specifically to your question -- are you asking about undergrad or grad? What is your educational goal?Based on what I know about higher ed in India, you can get a very good undergrad education in computing from many schools there, especially the IITs, for a lot less money. However, if you want a graduate degree, Purdue is a much better choice, even though it would be more expensive. Depending on what you want to do with your degree, where you want to work, and what you want to study, the recommendation would be different.

If you attend Purdue University, you have a major advantage to get into graduate programs in Purdue University. You also have a major advantage over students wanting to attend university graduate programs in the state of Ohio, that aren't residents of the state of Ohio. You also have an advantage over any applicant for Canada.Since we are talking about US Residents, they have an advantage over Canadian students because most universities have Federal and State subsidies. A Canadian undergrad has to apply as a International Student which has to compete for the international quota with Chinese, Japanese, Western and Easter Europeon etc. undergrads.The University of Toronto has a similar advantage for Canadian Grad Schools if you are a Canadian citizen.

A2A. I am not sure which MSC program you are apply to, but I think you have a pretty good chance of getting into ASU; however, I would need to see your individual scores to see if your quantitative score is within range to say for sure.

Before reading my whole answer, I think it is important for you to consider you and/or your family's financial situation. Assuming you looked into the cost of each university before posting this. If you're financially sound, I would say continue with reading with the rest of the post. Else, I would just immediately suggest that you pick UOP over the other two (though this is my opinion and this post should not be the reason you heavily made one choice over another).Anyway, we move on. I personally had a similar decision where I was accepted to University of the Pacific (UOP), UC Santa Cruz (UCSC) and San Jose State University (SJSU). With that being said, my initial thought process was about what the schools were best known for. UOP was known more for dentistry, SJSU was known more for engineering and UCSC was known more for their biological sciences. Now this is what I saw when I tried to look up the different universities several years ago. Out of three universities I had listed, I personally chose to eliminate UOP first. My reason was because UOP was known more for the dentistry and not their engineering. It would seem to make more sense for me to be attending UOP if I was going down the path of dentistry. Between the last two universities, I looked at the universities' location, opportunity and price. Even though it could have been better, I would not say I regret choosing SJSU over the other universities.TLDR; First consider the location of the university (what you are able to do there, weather, etc.) and the opportunities that may arise while you are at that university (research opportunities, programs/clubs/foundations you could join, etc.). After that, decide on affordability based on your financial availability for the university costs (tuition, etc.). Anyway best of luck (though you may have decided already).

Having never been to Purdue, I can’t really compare these two program purely on first-hand knowledge (though I doubt anyone can). But I think Waterloo’s CS program is pretty top-notch and academically rigorous. As an anecdote, I just found out today that one of our grads is an Assistant Professor at Georgia Tech! (Homepage: Richard Peng).However, our brochures generally emphasize the benefits of co-op — which makes sense, as everyone from startups to tech giants like Google/Facebook hire CS grads by the dozens (literally!).
