What is the biggest scam that every Indian must be aware of?
Recently I have come across a possible scam about counterfeit/fake products in India. Counterfeit/fake products are nothing new to Indian Society. These products are easily available in markets like Pallika Bazar (Delhi), Fashion street (Mumbai) etc. You can get first copy products of many branded companies included Puma, Nike, Adidas, Reebok (shoes, t-shirts etc), Micheal Kors, Guess (hand bags, Purse). There are markets where you can easily get copies of branded wrist watches and even perfumes. But people who buy products from these markets are aware of the fact that these are duplicate products. No, No… This is not the scam I am talking about. The scam starts from next level. It involves giant e-commerce websites including Snapdeal. The people who lives in India are pretty much aware of this e-commerce website and the discounts which it offers on multiple products including clothing, electronics and many other things.Recently, I was surfing on Facebook, then there was an advertisement regarding sales on Nike Shoes. It obviously got my attraction. I was amazed to see the discounts on shoes. Some discounts were close to 60% of the market value. It was a great deal. I thought of giving it a try because I did not want to miss the deal. And I am sure many people like me might have got attracted to same deals and bought the shoes from the website. I received the product within 3 days. When I opened the package, I was shocked to see that the shoes were duplicate (I am a regular user). I showed it to one of my friends, he told that “Shi to hai yaar, tujhe aise hi lag rha h” - (It is good bro, you are having false doubts). But still I wanted to get it tested from official Nike store to confirm. I visited the Nike store and they confirmed my doubt. The shoes were fake. I contacted Snapdeal regarding this problem. They told me that I can return the product and they would be refunding my money. But then I asked, what are you going to do to seller who is sending fake products using your website. He replied with standard answer - “We will look into this matter. We take extreme care before onboarding any seller. Blah Blah…..!!!” He even told me that the seller was Authorised Nike Dealer. Then, I understood the whole concept behind the huge discounts on branded materials. These websites are full of such kind of sellers. The sellers provide huge discounts on branded products (though they are cheap fake products which are easily available in market at no more than Rs. 500–700). They sell these products at Rs. 2000–3000 by showing the original price equivalent to Rs. 6000–10000 (Equivalent to original prices in showrooms). This is how these sellers are looting people by selling them fake products. It it hard to notice if the products received are fake or original for new users as they look exactly the same in every manner. Since they are coming from a trusted channel (like Snapdeal), nobody sheds a doubt and may take them as original. Now, you must be thinking why these website allow such sellers on their websites. The reason is simple, it increases the number of sales on their websites and WHO DOES NOT WANT THAT. After all, the investors are looking for these sales figures.I hope you understood the scam. Beware when you buy such items from e-commerce websites. You might be their next victim. Here are few tricks to avoid buying fake products:When you are buying from these website, look at the original price on which discount is being applied and the visit the official website of that brand. If the price is same, then it may or may not be original but if the price is different, I would suggest you to stay away from that product.Whenever you buy expensive branded products, just get it confirmed from an official store (if you can). It is completely useless to throw away your money on fake products unknowingly. Here some photographs related to this incident:Link to the product on Website: Nike Air Max 2017 Running ShoesLink to the Product on Nike Website: Look what I found at Nike online.

What did you do after getting recommended from SSB?
What did you do after getting recommended from SSB?It was this day of 02nd July at SSB Bhopal when in second and last attempt I was recommended for training at OTA. Six months back, I was rejected at SSB Allahabad. When I was in the list of selected candidates, it was the biggest feeling of achievement. I had worked on it since last seven years. I had joined in the ranks of Indian Navy seven years back. After completing two years of basic training as Naval boy, I ventured onto realisation of alleviating my career from rank to Officer. I took admission for graduation as external candidate. I used to sail on board warship. I used to perform six hours duty and in next six hours of rest, I used to study for three hours and sleep for three hours. When i was in last year of the graduation, I attempted both simultaneously, the CDS exam and final year. I Passed both but got rejected in SSB. I had come to Allahabad from Andaman islands for SSB. Having been rejected, I decided not to show face to my father and went back to port Blair to be back with unit. I had one more chance . This time again I passed CDS and made it at SSB Bhopal. As I found my name in the list, I kept the happiness hidden as there were other candidates who were depressed as they could not make it.The first call I made was to my Commanding Officer. He was waiting for the news. I could hear him making announcement on PA system in unit lines about my selection. He ordered me “ Last time after you failed at SSB Allahabad, you didn't go on leave. Now proceed on two weeks leave from Bhopal. Spend time with family. After leave report at Chennai. I will have you flew in air force cargo plane to Port Blair.”I picked up my bag and left SSB centre for railway station. There was some hours left for departure of the train. It was drizzling. I went and sat in solitude at Lake Bhojtal. Closed eyes and thanked god for having bestowed on me what I dreamt. On the way, found shop selling army uniform and accessories.signNowed next day hometown of Aurangabad. Father and Mother were surprised at sudden appearance of me. I had smaller luggage. I used to always bring a defence made whiskey for father. This time I asked him to close eyes. I placed in his handIt took seconds for him to know what was it. He stood up like a young man and embraced me and started weeping. The joy of tears. The news was out in our village that someone first time is going to become officer in army. Two days later my birthday was celebrated amidst the entire village.I left after my leave was over. I reported back to Chennai. The CO had kept his promise.First time in life flew in air and that too in cargo plane. After two months, again the kind CO summoned me and asked me to pack up my bag and report to his office. He said “ I am sorry to inform you that your father has passed away. I am sanctioning you leave again. After rituals, report directly for training at OTA”. He personally dropped me at Port Blair Airport, never to be seen again later”.

Is the fact that 31,000 scientists signed a document stating that there is nothing to global warming test the waters with respect to the claim that 97% of all scientists believe that there is something to global warming?
No, because the “fact” is not true. The claim that 31,000 scientists do not believe in man-made global warming is just another of many deceptions by the fossil fuel companies. Of the 31,000 “scientists” who signed the document, very few were actual scientists, and almost none were climate scientists. Bear in mind that the people who circulated the document were creating a propaganda tool and wanted as many signatures as possible on it, so they made it as easy as possible to sign it. The only requirement was that you have a BS (Bachelor of Science) degree. You can have a BS in anything. It can be in dentistry, medicine, any branch of engineering, economics, business (Bachelors of Business Management Online Degree), political science, even religion (Bachelor of Science in Religion Online Degree Program). It can be a regular BS degree, an online degree, or an even honorary degree. In fact, you do not really have to have a BS at all. The form merely asks you to check a prepared box that says you have one, with no verification. There is also no requirement that you are actually working in the field. In short, the 31,000 “scientists” are almost entirely ordinary people with no particular qualifications in climate science who, often motivated by political ideology, do not believe that humans are causing global warming. As an added detail, there is no attempt to prevent a person from signing it multiple times under different names. A coal company lobbyist could get on and sign it multiple times. Considering the low (almost nonexistent) standards for signing this document and the fact that this petition has been aggressively circulated since 1998, it is a wonder that it has collected only 31,000 signatures. Under these circumstances, I could probably get 31,000 “scientists” to sign a document saying the Earth is flat (a recent survey showed that about 60,000 Americans firmly believe the Earth is flat: Only Two-Thirds Of American Millennials Believe The Earth Is Round).

What is the time period of a simple pendulum at the center of the Earth?
The answer to this question was pretty surprising to me.The other answers to this question make use of the assumption that the general formula for a simple pendulum is valid here. This will however not be the case. Let us therefore start from scratch:When we have a pendulum at the centre of the earth, we have to choose how we will position it. A pendulum has a finite size, so there are two options I will consider here:The bottom of the swinging arc of the pendulum is at the centre of the Earth. The end of the cord of the pendulum is at the centre of the Earth. It was also assumed that the length of the pendulum is a lot smaller than the radius of the Earth. So we would be present in the centre of the earth.DisclaimerBefore going further, I should mention that the equations that follow for case 1 make use of the assumption that the cord/string is a rigid one. Otherwise, the bob would go in a straight line to the centre of the Earth. (Thank you to Harsh Vardhan Jha for inspiring this remark). Now though, the force up the rigid string will be countered by one at the point of attachment. On the other hand, the second case makes use of the assumption that the cord is a loose one. For this reason, my definitions aren’t as consistent as I thought they were (so let me be the first to say that you were right after all Martin Hogbin and Yashee Sinha). Now that this is out of the way, enjoy the rest of my answer :)CalculationsLet us now investigate both cases though, each one separately:Case 1:In the first case, the gravitational force will always point towards the bottom of the arc. For this reason, when we draw a scheme of this pendulum with all necessary forces on it (the tension in the string together with the longitudinal force [math]F_{L}[/math] are not drawn because they would clutter the diagram. They also sum to zero, so therefore they aren’t relevant for the problem at hand.), we get:In this picture, [math]L[/math] is the length of the pendulum cord, [math]m[/math] is the mass of the pendulum, [math]\theta[/math] is the angle the pendulum makes with the vertical axis, [math]F_g[/math] is the gravitational force, [math]F_T[/math] is the transversal component of the gravitational force. We are all familiar with Newton’s second law which states:[math]\vec{F} = m\vec{a} = m\frac{d^{2}\vec{x}}{dt^{2}}[/math]For the case of the pendulum that was shown, this comes down to:[math]-F_{T} = mL\frac{d^{2}\theta}{dt^{2}}[/math]For the force [math]F_T[/math], we know that it is a projection of the gravitational force [math]F_g[/math]. We can determine the factor the gravitational force should be multiplied with easily. The vertical line together with the pendulum cord and the red line make for an isosceles triangle. Determining the angle of one of the equal angles, we get an angle of [math]\frac{\pi-\theta}{2}[/math]. Projecting the gravitational force correctly, we now get the updated equation:[math]-F_{g}\sin\left(\frac{\pi-\theta}{2}\right) = mL\frac{d^{2}\theta}{dt^{2}}[/math]It now rests us to find a correct expression for the gravitational force. The general formula for the gravitational force is given by:[math]F_g = G\frac{m_{1}m_{2}}{r^{2}}[/math]where [math]G[/math] is the gravitational constant, [math]m_1[/math] and [math]m_2[/math] are the masses of the objects you calculate the force between, and [math]r[/math] is the distance between those two objects.Since we are in the centre of the Earth however, we can’t just take the full mass of the Earth in the equation. We therefore must make use of the shell theorem (Shell theorem - Wikipedia). It states that only the mass within the distance of the pendulum and the centre is relevant to the problem. For this reason, we must now make another assumption. This assumption is that the mass of the Earth has a constant density [math]\rho[/math]. We now get for the masses in the gravitational equation mentioned before that:[math]m_1 = m[/math][math]m_2 = V\rho = \frac{4}{3}\pi\rho r^{3}[/math]where [math]r[/math] is the distance from the pendulum to the centre of the Earth, denoted in red in the scheme that was presented earlier. When we take these masses into account, we get an updated gravitational equation for this particular case that reads:[math]F_g = \frac{4}{3}mG\pi\rho r[/math]Everything is constant in this equation except for the distance [math]r[/math]. Let us therefore express this distance as a function of [math]\theta[/math]. This can be done by observing that this distance is actually equal to the length of a chord. For an angle [math]\theta[/math], this length is equal to [math]2L\sin(\theta/2)[/math].We thus get a gravitational force that is equal to:[math]F_g = \frac{4}{3}mLG\pi\rho\cdot 2\sin\left(\frac{\theta}{2}\right)[/math]If we put this back into the second equation of motion we originally had, we come to the equation we were looking for, which looks as follows:[math]-\frac{4}{3}mLG\pi\rho\cdot 2\sin\left(\frac{\theta}{2}\right)\sin\left(\frac{\pi-\theta}{2}\right) = mL\frac{d^{2}\theta}{dt^{2}}[/math]This equation can be simplified by observing that the sine functions can be combined into one:[math]2\sin\left(\frac{\theta}{2}\right)\sin\left(\frac{\pi-\theta}{2}\right) = \sin\left(\theta\right)[/math]Thus we get for our equation:[math]-\frac{4}{3}G\pi\rho\sin\left(\theta\right) = \frac{d^{2}\theta}{dt^{2}}[/math]This should look very familiar to everyone who ever solved a harmonic oscillator. The solution method is the exact same. We assume only small deviations, which allows us to say [math]\sin(\theta)\approx\theta[/math].The pendulum will thus undergo simple harmonic motion, just like a regular simple pendulum. The solution to get to the period is straightforward now. It is given by (Thank you to Isaac Clark for pointing out that my previous expression didn’t have the right dimensionality since I wrote down the solution for the angular frequency.):[math]T = \frac{2\pi}{\sqrt{\frac{4}{3}G\pi\rho}} = \sqrt{\frac{3\pi}{G\rho}}[/math]This period is, as you can see, independent of the mass of the pendulum, but also independent of the length of the pendulum cord.Case 2:For the second case, the centre of the Earth is taken to coincide with the end of the pendulum cord. When we would release the pendulum, it would undergo simple harmonic motion like a mass-spring-system. The equation could be written down with similar steps as previously (even easier than before). We get:[math]-\frac{4}{3}G\pi\rho x = \frac{d^{2}x}{dt^{2}}[/math]Here [math]x[/math] denotes the distance from the pendulum to the centre of the Earth and the other constants are defined as before. This equation is the exact same as the previous one. Therefore also in this case, a period would be observed that is the same, namely:[math]T = \sqrt{\frac{3\pi}{G\rho}}[/math]What does this approximately compute to?The inner core of the Earth is compromised of an iron-nickel alloy and some other elements. This inner core is a solid ball with a radius that stretches over [math]1220 km[/math], so it’s fair to assume our pendulum is inside this core. When one looks up the values for the density of iron and nickel, you get:iron: [math]7870 \frac{kg}{m^{3}}[/math],nickel: [math]8900 \frac{kg}{m^{3}}[/math],Let us as an approximation assume that the density in the core is the average of these two values, so:[math]\rho = \frac{7870 + 8900}{2}\frac{kg}{m^{3}} = 8385 \frac{kg}{m^{3}}[/math]We have for the gravitational constant:[math]G = 6.674\cdot 10^{-11} \frac{m^{3}}{kg\cdot s^{2}}[/math]All together this computes to a period of:[math]T = \sqrt{\frac{3\pi}{G\rho}} = 4103.84... s \approx 4104 s[/math]So, no matter the weight of the pendulum or the length of the cord, it will take 1 hour, 8 minutes and 24 seconds to go back and forth once. That’s a pretty long time!AddendumThere are a lot of people commenting on one particular thing, so to prevent answering the same question each time, let me formulate an answer here.We are dealing in this problem with a lot of simplifications.First, we are looking at a simple pendulum. This is a mass attached to a string. However, the string is massless and an ideal string, meaning it takes up the space of a perfect line. The mass on the end is also an ideal mass, that means it is all concentrated in an ideal point at the end of the string.Second, the Earth was assumed to be spherical. This is of course not the case. It has many dents and bumps that will make a huge difference for gravity. Due to its rotation, it is also a spheroid and not a sphere. For these reasons the shell theorem will only be valid for the layers up until the point where no more spherical layers are possible. The outer layers will thus contribute to the force on the pendulum. And don’t forget that mount Everest will have a larger influence than the Mediterranean Sea.We are neglecting friction in all its possible forms. There is no resistance of any material it encounters on its way, nor is their energy loss due to the suspension (no energy is lost in the cord). The inner core of the Earth would be too hot for any pendulum to survive. The temperature at the surface of the inner core is about as hot as the surface of the sun, namely 5700 Kelvin. We wouldn’t even be able to swing the pendulum before it was gone. We also don’t take this into account. All these assumptions are fine with most of you. However, suggesting/assuming that a pendulum could move through a solid was apparently a step too far. So let me fix this step.Since we are dealing with a simple pendulum, which is super thin (one point thickness) and the motion is in a plane, I suggest we make a slit in the core that can just fit this pendulum. Since the slit will be super small, nothing changes in the analysis and we still get that it will take 1 hour, 8 minutes and 24 seconds to go back and forth once. But some of you want to make a larger hole for the pendulum to swing in all possible directions. Also this is possible. Let’s do it. We make a spherical hollow sphere inside the core of the Earth. We will have to fill this sphere with something though. Let’s take regular air. The whole same analysis applies, only with layers of air now. The eventual period should now be calculated with [math]\rho = 1.2 \frac{kg}{m^{3}}[/math], the density of regular air at sea level. When we do this, we get to a period of [math]343046 s[/math]. This is a time of 3 days of 24 hours, 23 extra hours, 17 minutes and 23 seconds (so basically almost four full days) to swing once back and forth. But some of you will want to make this hollowed out sphere a vacuum. Also then we are able to use the exact same formula. This time we have to plug in [math]\rho = 0 \frac{kg}{m^{3}}[/math]. If we do that, we get an infinite period. This is of course since gravity won’t be present in a vacuum sphere at the centre of the Earth. Therefore, the analysis remains valid in all cases, you just need to plug in another number for the density :)

How technologically advanced is Germany today?
Having lived in just 2 countries: India and Germany, I suppose I could be eligible for this too.I’d say, Germany is technologically advanced, but you won’t see this directly on the streets. There are many small things that you’ll notice once you come here and live. The advancement lies in the big companies and their R&D department, also their product ranging for different sectors. I’ll try to put as many as I can, which is noticeable on daily basis.Traffic System: The roads and the discipline you’d see is far better than even some EU countries. What is the most misogynistic and/or (male) chauvinistic thing you have heard? If it was said to you, how did the incident impact you?
I thought about the answer to your question for a moment because I was sure that having been born and brought up in India and traveled to different parts of the country , I would have surely been encountered with someone like that. The sad part is that my memory of a male chauvinist does not include a stranger . He is one of my dad's weirdest friends. I first met him when he came to my place to meet my dad . I was in grade 12th. He started talking to me , highly full of praises for my dad. By the way, I forgot to add that he is a super rich businessman. As he was talking to me , he said, "17 years ago , your dad came to his office and started distributing sweets to his colleagues. I asked him what happened and he said 'I became a father today'. I congratulated him for having a baby boy. He then said 'I am a proud father of a baby girl' and I was shocked that someone can be so happy to have a girl born in their house. At my place, it's considered inauspicious to bear a girl child. I have asked your dad to get you married as soon as possible but he doesn't listen to me. He is a great man."I was shocked to hear this. I had heard about people misbehaving and eve-teasing with girls in Delhi (where I lived) but I never thought I would get to hear something like this from an educated rich man. I couldn't take it anymore. He could see the angry look on my face and he stopped talking to me after that. When he left , I told my dad what that uncle was saying and he stopped talking to him too. My dad also told me how that man had stopped talking to his brother and had thrown him out of his house because his brother's wife had given birth to a girl child and they refused to part ways with her. Last I heard , he was an MLA in his area. It's sad to hear that such people take such high positions in the society based on their wealth.

What is it like to go skydiving in Dubai?
One word : Excellent. From the top :I skydived with Skydive Dubai above the Palms islands. My jump was at 7:30 AM in the morning. I signNowed the centre at 6:30. I was given 2 forms of 3 pages each to fill and had to put my signatures at hundred places. Yes, in case something goes wrong while jump, these signatures come handy. :PAfter completing all the formalities, I was told to wait. Normally, a jump happens with a group of 6. Two trainers personally accompany a single person, one trainer to dive with the participant, and other to click photos and videos of jump. What happens in a scenario if the trainer was not able to capture photos or videos? Well you get a free jump. One of my friend got lucky and jumped twice as the trainer was not able to capture his video due to some technical issue. Oh wait. it’s my turn now. The board shows my name :DI was excited. I am not scared of heights. That is what I kept telling myself to stay calm before jumping off a plane from 13000 feet. After my group of 6 was decided, I met my instructor. He gave me some tips on how to keep my body and legs positioned while jumping off the plane. I practiced that multiple times because I wanted myself to land alive. Just before getting into the plane :Just before the jump, they make a video of you to capture all your thoughts, excitement, nervousness. I chatted with the instructor who made me feel calm. Then came the moment. 18 of us, 6 participants with 2 instructors for each moved inside the plane. The plane took off with it’s door open :P. We gradually ascended and I was shit scared. The instructor took out his goPro and shot a video inside the plane just before the jump asking me about my experience at 13000 feet above the ground seconds before the jump. I kept quiet. Just before jumping off the plane:And finally, it happened :D The first 10–15 seconds is free fall. You fall down at acceleration due to gravity with the air gushing down your face. The heart thumps heavily and you gradually start enjoying it. Then the instructor finally opens the parachute and you see the real beauty of Dubai. You see the beautiful Palm, the gigantic Burj Khalifa, the stunning 7 star Burj Al Arab and you wish you could freeze that moment. Meanwhile, the second instructor captures that moment beautifully while he also jumps with you. It was an experience to remember !If you ever visit Dubai, don’t miss out SkyDive ! You probably do it once in a lifetime and it stays with you forever.
