This is a question that you need to discuss with a sleep doctor. CPAP machines can certainly alleviate the symptoms if that is the diagnosis. And if your doctore recommends using a CPAP mask then you should certainly follow their advice.Some people however find using such a mask difficult or unappealing. There are surgical procedures now that can help open the airways in your throat but a CPAP machine is a great non-invasive way to help your body get more air. I have sleep apnea as well but yours sounds way worse. Please understand that without enough air your body puts a tremendous amount of strain on your heart and you may likely die in your sleep.CPAP machines do not come without their problems. You should purchase a face mask cleaner to avoid germs from entering in your air tube during non-use. Your problem is life threatening. PLEASE do not avoid it or put it off any longer. If it doesn’t result in death it will, at the very least, weaken your heart. Get to your sleep study ASAP and they will send you the required equipment. The CPAP face cleaner is not included and may have to be bought separately. Always keep your equipment clean and germ free. They did not go over this with me when I received my machine so I am making you aware of the importance of keeping the air tubes and mask super clean since you will be using this every day. I know it will suck at the beginning until you get used to it but you have no choice. Please do not delay. Your condition is the worst I have ever heard about. Also if you are overweight, losing weight may be beneficial to the point where you would not need the machine any more.Good luck and be well.~

Considering it does nothing to aleviate the underlying PHYSICAL problem that causes most cases of sleep apnea... Not well at all. This quote from a WebMD page (RHODIOLA: Uses, Side Effects, Interactions and Warnings) seems exceedingly relevant here:Rhodiola is used for many conditions, but so far, there isn’t enough scientific evidence to determine whether or not it is effective for any of them.CPAP is the go to treatment for sleep apnea, if you're having trouble complying with it, try other masks, machines, get tips from your doctor, fellow patients, online forums, just don't stop the treatment. I heartily recommend the Tap Pap mask, I got it as a chanukkah gift from my dad, and I absolutely love it.If you are still unreasonably tired even with CPAP, find yourself a good sleep doc, sleep apnea isn't your only problem. This sucks, I'm dealing with this too, but again keep on with the CPAP, it's not just treating tiredness.

Sleeping on your back normally makes apneas worse. If you're already on cpap,  hopefully the doctors assigned you a pressure that fixes the apneas that would occur on your back. Either way,  sleeping on either side tends to help reduce apneas, and might be helpful if your still having breathing problems. If that's not an issue then it really doesn't matter how you sleep. As for the drying out,  the best fix for that is to keep your mouth closed if you have a nasal mask. Maybe request a chinstrap or something else that wraps around your head and keeps your mouth closed.If your masks covers your mouth and nose,  then all you can do is up the humidity.
