How many people die each year from sleep apnea? Is there any way to determine sleep apnea or sleep apnea related deaths in a year?
This is likely a difficult question to answer. I have seen a reference that according to the National Commission on Sleep Disorders Research, approximately 38,000 deaths occur in the US on an annual basis that relate to cardiovascular problems that in one way or another are connected to sleep apnea. (http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/about/n...)But don't leave out motor vehicle accidents. There are more than 40,000 deaths each year from Motor Vehicle Accidents in the USA, and it's estimated that 15-20% of crashes are related to drowsy driving. Not all of those accidents would be related to Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), but some of them would be. (http://www.talkaboutsleep.com/sl...)OSA causes a person to stop breathing up to hundreds of times per night. Not breathing in itself is a condition that is incompatible with sustaining life. These pauses in breathing can cause drastic changes in oxygen levels. They also lead to frequent arousals that fragment a person's sleep. This activity puts an enormous strain on the human heart, thereby increasing a person's risk for so many other health problems -- not to mention it goes untreated so often (80-90% of people with OSA are unaware that they have it), that it's probably pretty tough to narrow down as a specific cause of death.-Plenty of evidence exists that links sleep apnea to higher mortality rates, though:Two studies in the journal Sleep published in 2008 show that people with sleep apnea have a much higher risk of death than people without. (http://www.sleepeducation.com/Ar...) The risk is greater for people whose sleep apnea is more severe, and also increases when sleep apnea goes untreated. OSA sufferers have 5 times the risk of dying from a heart problem than those without sleep apnea, and there were more than 650,000 cardiac deaths in 2005. (http://www.sleepeducation.com/Ar...) Johns Hopkins has also done studies in this area.(http://www.sleepeducation.com/Ar...) In fact, NFL Great Reggie White's death was linked to Sleep Apnea, according to the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. (http://www.sleepeducation.com/Ar...) Also, according to the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, OSA is associated with cardiovascular complications, most notably increased risk for high blood pressure. Untreated apnea is also associated with higher risks of stroke and heart attack, and can increase the risk for work-related accidents and driving accidents. Some individuals, particularly those with existing lung disease, may develop severe declines in oxygen levels and even heart failure. (http://www.sleepeducation.com/To...)(http://www.sleepeducation.com/Ar...)The National Heart Lung Blood Institute of the National Institutes of Health did a study in 2000 showing that middle-aged and older adults with sleep apnea have a 45 percent greater risk of hypertension than people without the disorder. Hypertension, or high blood pressure, is a major risk for cardiovascular disease. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States today. (http://www.sleepeducation.com/Ar...)

Why do ex-employers refuse to fill out the VA form 21-4192 for a vet?
VA Form 21–4192 is an application for disability benefits and like similar state benefits, it must be filled out by the veteran or by his or her qualified representative. This is a private, sensitive, legal document and every dot or dash in it can be critical, so must be accurate and verifiable.Employers have zero responsibility to fill out this form or furnish information for it, however, Social Security would have all the information required that the Department of Defense did not have. The veteran’s DD-214 is likely required, but does not furnish all the information required on the form.

Can I use cpap device to rule out sleep apnea?
This is a question that you need to discuss with a sleep doctor. CPAP machines can certainly alleviate the symptoms if that is the diagnosis. And if your doctore recommends using a CPAP mask then you should certainly follow their advice. Some people however find using such a mask difficult or unappealing. I am such a person so I found other ways which have been shown to help. Here is a short video explaining what I learned - check it out and then visit http://www.breathesimple.com to learn more about how you can use breathing exercises effectively. If you like the post then please share/upvote it for others. How can you prevent death from sleep apnea with out a cpap?
There are surgical procedures now that can help open the airways in your throat but a CPAP machine is a great non-invasive way to help your body get more air. I have sleep apnea as well but yours sounds way worse. Please understand that without enough air your body puts a tremendous amount of strain on your heart and you may likely die in your sleep.CPAP machines do not come without their problems. You should purchase a face mask cleaner to avoid germs from entering in your air tube during non-use. Your problem is life threatening. PLEASE do not avoid it or put it off any longer. If it doesn’t result in death it will, at the very least, weaken your heart. Get to your sleep study ASAP and they will send you the required equipment. The CPAP face cleaner is not included and may have to be bought separately. Always keep your equipment clean and germ free. They did not go over this with me when I received my machine so I am making you aware of the importance of keeping the air tubes and mask super clean since you will be using this every day. I know it will suck at the beginning until you get used to it but you have no choice. Please do not delay. Your condition is the worst I have ever heard about. Also if you are overweight, losing weight may be beneficial to the point where you would not need the machine any more.Good luck and be well.~

Do military members have to pay any fee for leave or fiancee forms?
NOOOOOOO. You are talking to a military romance scammer. I received an email from the US Army that directly answers your question that is pasted below please keep reading.I believe you are the victim of a military Romance Scam whereas the person you are talking to is a foreign national posing as an American Soldier claiming to be stationed overseas on a peacekeeping mission. That's the key to the scam they always claim to be on a peacekeeping mission.Part of their scam is saying that they have no access to their money that their mission is highly dangerous. If your boyfriend girlfriend/future husband/wife is asking you to do the following or has exhibited this behavior, it is a most likely a scam:Moves to private messaging site immediately after meeting you on Facebook or SnapChat or Instagram or some dating or social media site. Often times they delete the site you met them on right after they asked you to move to a more private messaging siteProfesses love to you very quickly & seems to quote poems and song lyrics along with using their own sort of broken language, as they profess their love and devotion quickly. They also showed concern for your health and love for your family.Promises marriage as soon as he/she gets to state for leave that they asked you to pay for. They Requests money (wire transfers) and Amazon, iTune ,Verizon, etc gift cards, for medicine, religious practices, and leaves to come home, internet access, complete job assignments, help sick friend, get him out of trouble, or anything that sounds fishy. The military does provide all the soldier needs including food medical Care and transportation for leave. Trust me, I lived it, you are probably being scammed. I am just trying to show you examples that you are most likely being connned.Below is an email response I received after I sent an inquiry to the US government when I discovered I was scammed. I received this wonderful response back with lots of useful links on how to find and report your scammer. And how to learn more about Romance Scams.Right now you can also copy the picture he gave you and do a google image search and you will hopefully see the pictures of the real person he is impersonating. this doesn't always work and take some digging. if you find the real person you can direct message them and alert them that their image is being used for scamming.Good Luck to you and I'm sorry this may be happening to you. please continue reading the government response I received below it's very informative. You have contacted an email that is monitored by the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command. Unfortunately, this is a common concern. We assure you there is never any reason to send money to anyone claiming to be a Soldier online. If you have only spoken with this person online, it is likely they are not a U.S. Soldier at all. If this is a suspected imposter social media profile, we urge you to report it to that platform as soon as possible. Sleep Apnea: How well does rhodiola work to decrease fatigue from sleep apnea?
Considering it does nothing to aleviate the underlying PHYSICAL problem that causes most cases of sleep apnea... Not well at all. This quote from a WebMD page (RHODIOLA: Uses, Side Effects, Interactions and Warnings) seems exceedingly relevant here:Rhodiola is used for many conditions, but so far, there isn’t enough scientific evidence to determine whether or not it is effective for any of them.CPAP is the go to treatment for sleep apnea, if you're having trouble complying with it, try other masks, machines, get tips from your doctor, fellow patients, online forums, just don't stop the treatment. I heartily recommend the Tap Pap mask, I got it as a chanukkah gift from my dad, and I absolutely love it.If you are still unreasonably tired even with CPAP, find yourself a good sleep doc, sleep apnea isn't your only problem. This sucks, I'm dealing with this too, but again keep on with the CPAP, it's not just treating tiredness.

I have sleep apnea. Are there better positions for me to sleep in, and how do I keep my mouth from drying out?
Sleeping on your back normally makes apneas worse. If you're already on cpap, hopefully the doctors assigned you a pressure that fixes the apneas that would occur on your back. Either way, sleeping on either side tends to help reduce apneas, and might be helpful if your still having breathing problems. If that's not an issue then it really doesn't matter how you sleep. As for the drying out, the best fix for that is to keep your mouth closed if you have a nasal mask. Maybe request a chinstrap or something else that wraps around your head and keeps your mouth closed. If your masks covers your mouth and nose, then all you can do is up the humidity.
