My GATE 2017 rank is 135. What are some tips for what I should prepare for my IOCL interview? What are my chances of selection?
I have attended IOCL interview on June 6th and it went well. Now, I am waiting for the results. I am sharing here my experience, so that you can get an overview of how the whole scenario will be. You may already know that you have to go through GD, GT and an interview. The participants were divided into 2 groups. A group was sent to interviews and our group was sent to GD and GT.Two topics were given for GD of which one (majority choice) had to be chosen. The topics given to us were1. Can digitalisation enable India to go cashless?2. Is the ban of animal slaughter acceptable? Our group chose the 1st one. The discussion was very well organised in the presence of two female psychologists. The GD went for about half an hour.Later, for group task, a riddle type situation was given to analyse our ability to prioritize tasks. We, the six members, were regrouped into two batches. Each batch was given 15 minutes to discuss and arrive at conclusion. Then, the two batches discussed about the conclusions arrived and corrected each other for another 20 minutes. Then, we were sent to interviews after having the delicious lunch they provided.Coming to interview, they asked about the things we filled in the biodata form like areas of your interest. Some questions were on my b.tech project, on foundations ( as I am from civil engg.), concrete materials,my background, some HR questions, about IOCL etc. The panel comprised of 4 male and a female member. They were very friendly and made me feel very comfortable. The interview went for about 20 minutes and I came out satisfied. :)According to sources, gate score will weigh about 85%, personal interview about 12% and GD,GT about 3%. So, it seems the chances of selection mostly depends on gate score. So, prepare to express yourself well and make it a good experience. All the best :)

What was your strategy/study plan to clear the CAPF? Which books/study material do you use?
Most people who appear for CAPF are the ones already preparing for Civil Services so the topics to be covered are almost the same. It was the same in my case as well. For starters, go through NCERTs from class 6–12 of all relevant subjects, the topics and concepts are covered very well in them and all facts stated are fully accurate. Tata McGraw Hills book for Civil Services prelims MCQs is also very helpful. It's coverage of Indian National movement topic and Geography is good. Laxmikant for Polity, Mrunal » Competitive exams Preparation for econonics and other topics, Vision IAS website's material for monthly current affairs and other current affairs topics, Unacademy by Roman Saini is also very good if you like watching videos for studies.Just be really thorough with topics you're preparing. It's better to go through same material again and again instead of referring to new materials. Second paper of CAPF has subjective questions, be sure to practice them and develop a good writing speed. I couldn't complete that paper as I hadn't practiced writing enough and had very bad writing speed. This actually brought down my rank. Practice English grammar questions as they're scoring. Apti and quant you'll find materials easily so I'm not getting into it, just practice it well to gain speed.Written part is comparitively easy to clear in CAPF. They don't keep the cut offs very high because they know that many people who have done exceptional in written fail to clear physical and medical rounds. So more people clear the written round in this exam. But written exam scores are very important for merit because that's what ultimately determines which force you'll be allotted.Try to score maximum in objective and do complete the written paper with good content, then success is yours. But remember that in CAPF, written exam is just the beginning. Don't forget about physical and medical part. Stay physically fit during your entire course of preparation. Most people get so carried away studying that they get obese during the process and no matter how good they might have performed in the written part, they fail in physical efficiency test.Interview is about originality. Fill up your biodata form, in UPSC terms, Detailed Application Form or DAF properly with genuine details. You can decide the flow of the interview and you can lead them to those exact topics that you want to talk about if whatever you've filled in your biodata form are genuine. The board has highly experienced people, mostly from ex Forces background so don't bluff, they're sure to look straight through you. Just stay calm with a smile, give balanced answers without drifting to either extremes or getting emotionally carried away by a certain issue.CAPF hence requires a balanced approach. Don't wait till the last minute to work on your physical fitness. You already know the criteria once notification is out so judge yourself accordingly and prepare. If you're overweight, do something about it gradually than expecting quick fix solutions at the last minute. After written exam be sure to practice all the physical test events in a simulated environment. You need to have good stamina as these events are conducted when it's around 11am and it's really sunny then, also you're made to do them back to back.I cleared the exam in 2015 so I'm not sure if things have changed much after that, this is just my opinion. All the best!

How do we fill marks in the SBI biodata form if I have only CGPA?
There must be some formula provided by your university for conversion of cgpa to percentage or else you can deduct 0.5 gpa from your total cgpa and that becomes your percentage. For e.g- If a person secured 7.5 cgpa he will be considered to have 70%Hope this helps.

How should I prepare for interview after getting selected in ESE Mains?
As of now you can concentrate on mains. After they call you for interview you will be required to fill a Detailed Application form (DAF) which is none the less a biodata form and contains space for giving out choices for departments you want to opt for. UPSC panel team has this DAF with them which is the basis of your interview. They can ask u anything related to DAF along with normal basic technical questions. Hence ,1.Filling a good DAF and preparing for the questions asked in the same is a good way to prepare for interview.2. Practise to answer basic questions on your engineering discipline.3. Become fluent with basic laws , definitions and formulas.4. Dont mug up, u have to explain concepts inside so study like wise.5. Hobbies u mention in DAF are always a centre of attraction for UPSC members, never bluff with that. Be prepared to answer any questions on them.6. Choices you mention in DAF will be questioned and if u explain properly can give you boost in marks. This is all for now, for more updates on ESE join my page Dinesh Bajaj IES / ISRO - MECHAll the best :)

Do military members have to pay any fee for leave or fiancee forms?
NOOOOOOO. You are talking to a military romance scammer. I received an email from the US Army that directly answers your question that is pasted below please keep reading.I believe you are the victim of a military Romance Scam whereas the person you are talking to is a foreign national posing as an American Soldier claiming to be stationed overseas on a peacekeeping mission. That's the key to the scam they always claim to be on a peacekeeping mission.Part of their scam is saying that they have no access to their money that their mission is highly dangerous. If your boyfriend girlfriend/future husband/wife is asking you to do the following or has exhibited this behavior, it is a most likely a scam:Moves to private messaging site immediately after meeting you on Facebook or SnapChat or Instagram or some dating or social media site. Often times they delete the site you met them on right after they asked you to move to a more private messaging siteProfesses love to you very quickly & seems to quote poems and song lyrics along with using their own sort of broken language, as they profess their love and devotion quickly. They also showed concern for your health and love for your family.Promises marriage as soon as he/she gets to state for leave that they asked you to pay for. They Requests money (wire transfers) and Amazon, iTune ,Verizon, etc gift cards, for medicine, religious practices, and leaves to come home, internet access, complete job assignments, help sick friend, get him out of trouble, or anything that sounds fishy. The military does provide all the soldier needs including food medical Care and transportation for leave. Trust me, I lived it, you are probably being scammed. I am just trying to show you examples that you are most likely being connned.Below is an email response I received after I sent an inquiry to the US government when I discovered I was scammed. I received this wonderful response back with lots of useful links on how to find and report your scammer. And how to learn more about Romance Scams.Right now you can also copy the picture he gave you and do a google image search and you will hopefully see the pictures of the real person he is impersonating. this doesn't always work and take some digging. if you find the real person you can direct message them and alert them that their image is being used for scamming.Good Luck to you and I'm sorry this may be happening to you. please continue reading the government response I received below it's very informative. You have contacted an email that is monitored by the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command. Unfortunately, this is a common concern. We assure you there is never any reason to send money to anyone claiming to be a Soldier online. If you have only spoken with this person online, it is likely they are not a U.S. Soldier at all. If this is a suspected imposter social media profile, we urge you to report it to that platform as soon as possible. Please continue reading for more resources and answers to other frequently asked questions: How to report an imposter Facebook profile: Caution-https://www.facebook.com/help/16... < Caution-https://www.facebook.com/help/16... > Answers to frequently asked questions: - Soldiers and their loved ones are not charged money so that the Soldier can go on leave. - Soldiers are not charged money for secure communications or leave. - Soldiers do not need permission to get married. - Soldiers emails are in this format: john.doe.mil@mail.mil < Caution-mailto: john.doe.mil@mail.mil > anything ending in .us or .com is not an official email account. - Soldiers have medical insurance, which pays for their medical costs when treated at civilian health care facilities worldwide – family and friends do not need to pay their medical expenses. - Military aircraft are not used to transport Privately Owned Vehicles. - Army financial offices are not used to help Soldiers buy or sell items of any kind. - Soldiers deployed to Combat Zones do not need to solicit money from the public to feed or house themselves or their troops. - Deployed Soldiers do not find large unclaimed sums of money and need your help to get that money out of the country.
