Ask yourself, WHY do you care that your sister, who seems to have a pretty good life, be more involved? Family matters, but it probably matters more to you because you’re at home and she’s not. Do you miss her? Do you want to spend more time with her?What exactly do you think she should be doing when she’s “spending more time at home?” Does your family have game night, movie night, or something entertaining and fun that she would enjoy? Or do you all sit around doing your own thing and watching television? What is there about “family” that would be attractive to someone with a boyfriend and a life outside of your home?How do you know she DOESN’T care about family? Is her definition different from yours about how one shows “caring”? Does she come home for birthdays, holidays, special events?Has anyone INVITED HER and her boyfriend to dinner, or movie night, or a BBQ on the weekend? Or is she just supposed to show up unannounced and “be there” for people to dump their problems on? What have you got planned for her to do to “show she cares”?Here’s the thing, our family has us until we’re 18 years old, then we’re SUPPOSED to leave the nest, get a life, meet someone, and start our OWN family. Of course we keep in touch with our parents or siblings if we’ve grown up with a healthy family, but trust me, when you’re in HER shoes, and YOU are grown and out and away you’ll rarely darken the door of your house either.This really does sound more like YOU have the problem - you miss your sister - rather than your sister not caring. I would suggest talking to her, not as a victim - blaming HER for not being around, but as her sibling. Tell her, “I miss not having you around. I’d like to see more of you. Can we have dinner or lunch a couple of times a month so we don’t lose touch? Can you bring your boyfriend over the house for dinner once a month?”Take responsibility for your feelings. Don’t blame HER for “not caring about the family.” I think she’d be surprised to hear that. OWN YOUR FEELINGS.You said you “get that she has a life,” so maybe it’s time you got one too. It can include her, but start thinking about what YOU want out of life, and what you plan to do when you hit 18 and start living outside the home.

Attendant care workers need to be caring, but they are not 'carers'. They are workers working with you on goal directed work. Attendant care workers work closely with you in very personal ways. They do personal care. But the relationship is professional not personal.
