I’ve been eyeing this question for some time, and I’m glad to have been asked to answer it (thanks, Michael Gray), because I think the effort to do so might illuminate a few things about the nature of conservatism.First off, as a writer and professional dramaturg, I am wary of the idea that we can ascribe a simple ‘agenda’ to a good drama. If a story is any good, I expect it to be more ambiguous and elusive than that. I’m sure many conservatives would regard ‘Western civilisation’ as something that they think isn’t held in enough reverence by modern liberals (because we just don’t have enough reverence, period). The Greek and Latin classics are often held up as an example to us. But are they aware that Sophocles’ Antigone is about how one strong ruler, by insisting on his own authority and his right to enforce it, brings about catastrophe? Conservatives may complain that we don’t read the classics, and they have a point, because we tend not to, as a society: but the classics do not necessarily advance conservative ‘agendas’.Moreover, I would expect this question to attract a lot of answers in which conservatives choose films that they like, cherry-pick themes from those films, claim those themes as ‘conservative’, and then complacently pat themselves on the back for their high-mindedness.And I wasn’t disappointed! That’s exactly the course adopted by at least one answer. I hate to break it to conservatives, but you do not have a monopoly on responsibility, hard work and virtue itself. You just define them differently.The thing is, what does this question even mean? Specifically, that ‘surprisingly’? It’s no surprise that Dirty Harry is a film with conservative themes: I mean, duh. But does it support conservatism?The question that Dirty Harry raises is: does Harry have the right to do what he does? If so, from whence does he derive it? When he tortures Scorpio for information, did he have the right to do that? We might note that although Harry’s torture does indeed make Scorpio tell him where the girl is, it does the girl no good because she’s dead by the time they find her, and the DA is correct when he points out that the torture constitutes a violation of Scorpio’s rights. So, not only does Harry’s torture not save the girl, it causes Scorpio to be released, where he again gets to cause more mayhem, although Harry kills him before he can kill anyone else.If you analyse the story of Dirty Harry, it can’t be said to uncomplicatedly endorse conservative preferences for Harry’s sense of justice, because it’s perfectly legitimate to view it as a film about a cop who’s become too impatient to do his job properly, and whose recklessness endangers people’s lives. Harry throwing away his badge at the end can be seen as not so much a symbol of his disgust with the regulations, as his own recognition that he’s simply not cut out to be a cop any more.A conservative might counter-argue that the film shows that the justice system is flawed, and that Harry’s disgust and impatience are justified. Well, okay, but you can’t argue on the one hand for law and order, and on the other hand junk the law just because your sensibilities are so offended by a particular criminal that the existing system won’t fulfil your desire to see him punished as hard as you want.Let’s go back to ‘surprisingly conservative’. Surprising to whom, exactly? Conservatives, or liberals? I notice that most of the films that have been chosen are films that tend to flatter conservatives about what conservatism is. Conservatism is identified with duty, order, self-reliance, responsibility. It is insisted—over and over again, in one answer—that there is no such thing as systematic injustice, or plain old bad luck: people are entirely responsible for where they are in life, and complaining about your situation is not an option, because the only person who can do anything about it is you. Nobody is there to help you, and to ask or expect help is a sign of weakness.Well, that’s a pretty good description of life in a 1980s investment bank, but it’s not very accurate about how people in the real world actually get things done. The film High Noon is, I think, correctly cited as an illustration of this theme: nobody wants to help Marshall Kane because everyone else in the town either sides with the bad guys or is too chicken to do so. The only person who does help him is his wife, who overcomes her own Quaker scruples to gun down a bad guy.The director Howard Hawks was disgusted with High Noon and wrote Rio Bravo as a counter-film. In Rio Bravo, Sheriff Chance is facing a gang of bad guys, just like Marshall Kane, but the difference is that he is surrounded by people who want to and do help him — he’s just too proud to realise it. He only vanquishes the bad guys after he accepts that Dude, Colorado, Stumpy and Feathers are able to help him. It might be noted that, just as High Noon was written by the communist-sympathising Carl Foreman, Rio Bravo starred the very Republican John Wayne, who gave one of his best performances as Sheriff Chance. (It might also be noted, as a sly gag, that Rio Bravo recognises the role of Chance in life.)If I were to choose films which I regard as having surprisingly conservative themes, I might choose the films of Oliver Stone.I know that Stone is regarded in some quarters as being an archetypal Hollywood leftist. But, to me, one theme of conservatism, which is downplayed in most of the other answers but which is nevertheless a feature of real-life conservatism, is self-interest. Stone has a murky and rather toxic fascination with characters who are only self-interested, and with characters who seek political power to flatter their own dark urges. Gordon Gekko in Wall Street is one such: come on, he’s the most charismatic guy in the film! Nobody remembers dogged old Martin Sheen as the hero’s blue-collar dad, they remember Gordon and ‘Greed is good’.Nixon in Nixon is another: the film is half in love with this awful, paranoid, self-pitying man, and is far more interested in probing his self-loathing than in examining what Nixon actually did, and what the consequences were of what he did. Alexander in Alexander is far more of a song in praise of a charismatic male leader, than a coherent drama about anything in particular. (I actually like it as a film, the battle scenes have a hallucinatory intensity, but like most people I find it a drag to get to the end.)But I feel that conservatives would think I were being perverse if I were to advance Stone as a conservative, even though I think, deep down, he kind of is one.But wait: someone approaches. I have the feeling that this is a trap.And with good cause.My candidate for a very fine movie with surprisingly conservative themes is Brassed Off.This 1996 British movie is set in the fictional northern English coal-mining town of Grimley, and it’s about the town colliery band.Colliery brass bands are a long tradition in England, especially in the north. They were formed as ways for the miners to show their civic pride, and they cultivated musicianship. Guys would work down the mines all day and then rehearse with the band in the evening. Wives liked it because it meant that, for at least some of the time, their husbands weren’t down the pub. Being a good musician gave you social status.And the music was, and is, extraordinary. The band in the film is played by the real life Grimethorpe Colliery Band, one of the finest in the country. A really good brass band in full flight is exhilarating.However, the film is set ten years after the miners’ strike of the 1980s, and the mines are in the process of being closed down, even though they still contain a lot of coal. The colliery manager, Mr McKenzie, is a southern Englishman (not from round here!) and he says that he and his team are taking a good look at the balance sheets before making a decision. A young woman, Gloria, is employed by management as a financial analyst; she’s from the town and has come back to it after going to university. She plays the flugelhorn and is welcomed into the town band, not least by tenor horn player Andy, who fancied her back in the day. The band’s conductor, Danny, is passionate about music and barely aware of all the management stuff going on, which could lead to the pit closing and everyone losing their jobs.Well, the management team announces that the miners will have to vote either for or against a redundancy package. They vote for redundancy, and the band comes back from championship trials to find the pit closed. The shock gives Danny (who has miner’s lung) a heart attack. Danny’s son Phil, a trombonist, is already being chased by loan sharks for unpaid debts that he ran up during the miners’ strike, while trying to support his family on meagre strike pay; his wife, humiliated by not being able to pay for the family shopping, walks out and takes the kids. He attempts suicide.The story turns around when Gloria finds out that the management team was never interested in her financial analysis: the decision to close the pit was taken years earlier. The miners were always one of the strongest trade unions, and the conservative government wants to crush the unions, and this is the final boot in the face.Brassed Off is conservative, in that it laments the death of a community and an entire way of life, caused by the anti-union ideology of the Conservative government. It was conservative heroine Margaret Thatcher who destroyed the mining industry, because she didn’t want her power challenged. In a searing speech, Danny the conductor—who rises from his hospital bed to support his lads at the national brass band championship—denounces the policies that have wrecked lives in towns like his and many others:Because over the last ten years, this bloody government has systematically destroyed an entire industry. Our industry. And not just our industry - our communities, our homes, our lives. All in the name of "progress". And for a few lousy bob. I'll tell you something else you might not know, as well. A fortnight ago, this band's pit were closed — another thousand men lost their jobs. And that's not all they lost. Most of them lost the will to win a while ago. A few of them even lost the will to fight. But when it comes to losing the will to live, to breathe, the point is - if this lot were seals or whales, you'd all be up in bloody arms. But they're not, are they, no, no they're not. They're just ordinary common-or-garden honest, decent human beings. And not one of them with an ounce of bloody hope left.Oh aye, they can knock out a bloody good tune. But what the fuck does that matter?-Yeah, right, first of all, the British mining industry was not profitable—Thank you, Faith. Save it for the comments section.Like I said, hard work, discipline, duty, responsibility, family and community are not themes, or qualities, that conservatives get to claim belong to them, and not to others.I thoroughly recommend the movie. All proceedings, laws, and budgets of a legislative body are public information. Most meetings are public except for Executive Session, and in that case, you have a right to know what specifically is being discussed (ie. a real estate matter, a personnel matter).In Pennsylvania, you can file an "Open Records Request" and obtain copies of any public record you want. You might have to pay a copy fee though.During the budget process, the budget has to be on public display. In the entire 6 years I served as a public official, I only knew of one resident who actually looked at the budget and questioned us about it, one time. Nobody is doing that!!!Also during the 6 years I served as a public official, it was very rare that residents attended our public committee meetings, or public council meetings, or public budget workshops. These meetings are all PUBLIC, but for the most part, NOBODY COMES!All public officials must fill out an ethics form every year, which is public information. This covers their ownings, their income, and their debts. This makes it easy to track, at least in one sense, whether a politician is acting with conflict of interest. (You can also, at least in my county, do a search on the county property assessment site by name, to see what properties people own, and make sure those are reported on the ethics form.) In the event that a politician makes a vote or decision which would have clear financial implications for anything on their ethics form, they are supposed to disclose that at the time of the vote, and while they aren't required to abstain, it's best practice to abstain. The only reason I'd work with one is to have an advocate on your side to keep the process moving along. Sometimes companies can be slow, and if you're working with a third-party recruiter they'll bug the company to move forward on your behalf. That being said, if you can just apply to the company directly, that's what I'd do.

Prepare well your resume.You are very likely not going to get algorithm/data structure questions like in the first round. It's going to be just some friendly chat if you are lucky. If your potential team is working on something like machine learning, expect that  they are going to ask you questions about machine learning, courses related to machine learning you have and relevant experience (projects, internship). Of course you have to study that before the interview. Take as long time as you need if you feel rusty. It takes some time to get ready for the host matching (it's less than the technical interview)  but it's worth it of course.
