Why not have a talking racoon or tree in Groot in the Disney/Marvel pantheon before having Dr. Strange?Warner SHOULD try its best to discipline itself past the incessant needed to execute and squeeze as much box office out of the next DC film as they can.Even FOX’s “semi excellent” XMen is crafted by Bryan Singer, who wontonly ignores a paced franchise developement by squeezing ALL of the mutantverse into the first XMen film. Since he can’t possibly craft a good movie with so many character, he lobotomizes Sabretooth and Mystique in non speaking “evil smart and dumb soldier” roles because he needs them for trailer fan service. His penchant for discarding long loved franchise characters infected X Men Origins : Wolverine where Sabretooth was recast and they didn’t think Deadpool would amount to being a valuable property so they lobotomized him too.I would go back to the well with DC and find characters that are relatable to the times.Overhaul the brand and bring DC out of its archaic and formulaic “one superhero god rules over his Metropolis, Star City, Coast City” etc. Just drop them and move toward a more relatable platform like Marvel so that the DC world mirrors much of our own.The only “micro universe” that feels fully fleshed our is Gotham. But anchored by a non enhanced vigilante in Batman, it’s rhe reason why Batman as enjoyed the most creative versalitly and success.Parallax in Green Lantern’s origin film? Really? Why start the audience off at the far end of the universe? Marvel took 10 years to shift toward cosmic stories.I would recast the Justice League and focus on Blue Beetle, Booster Gold, Powergirl, etc. . An earth bound origin ensemble film in the same spirits as Jame’s Gunn Guardians of the Galaxy and use cast of non enhanced characters.It’s not about not being dark or adding color. It’s about the humanity in the characters, well known or not. The DRAW is that they are superheroes, well known or not. Guardians enjoyed initial success because of faith in the Marvel brand. I thought it would be Marvel Studio’s first failure but I was wrong. In fact, it’s the most innovative in actually bridging The genre into being a classic Disney movie with talking animals and trees. True innovation for the film format and comic genre means not repeating and our shining Richard Donner, Tim Burton or Chris Nolan. Don’t try to borrow characavtsd that were so well portrayed and mash them together against generic planetary threats and think that the measure of a hero is based on the scale of the threat. Erik Killmonger is 1000000000000 times the villain that Steppenwolf or Doomsday are. And Nolan’s Joker didn’t have 1/100000000000000000000000 the destructive power of Parallax, Zod or Aries. But look how much more admirable Bale’s Dark Knight was perceived by audiences after the Joker. The DCEU thought that global spectacle is what defines the quality of its franchise. But most egregious of all is that they hired Zack Snyder, who truly has a superficial and WRONG personal interpretation and understanding of the characters? A Batman who kills Hispanic gamgbabgers by colluding with other murderers in jail? And he lets the Joker and Harley Quinn run amok? Zack Snyder doesn’t even have short term practical logic let alone an understanding of the legacy and source material.He has great visceral aesthetic and I appreciate his attention to detail. But I consider his work a hack- stringing together series of iconic moments from epic stores but stripping them of their origi al backstory to fit them in a poorly conceived DCEU cinematic universe build out.Start fresh and try to think of the incubating and not being fearful of developing lesser known characters.
