today in america hundreds of thousands of veterans are living on the margins of society many are physically or mentally disabled nearly all are unemployed and some have fallen into homelessness most have no place to turn these veterans deserve our support and u.s vets was established in 1993 with a mission to help them rebuild their lives u.s vets has grown into the country's largest and most comprehensive program for veterans who are transitioning back into the mainstream tonight more than 2 000 veterans have a place to call home in our 10 locations across the country the vulnerable veterans we serve need more than just a place to stay they need a place to heal from ravages of war from effects of mental illness or substance abuse and from the disappointment and despair that threatens to consume their lives they want to reconnect with their families and become productive members of the community again at u.s vets veterans find stability and camaraderie more than 1 100 veterans find job
