What is academic integrity? It's an ongoing commitment by those of us working and studying in the Humber community to live up to five core values in all of our behaviors and practices; honesty, trust, fairness, respect and responsibility. Academic integrity means being truthful in all of our work. If we breach the values of academic integrity in the post-secondary environment we run the risk of committing an act of academic misconduct or dishonesty. One form of academic dishonesty is plagiarism. What is plagiarism? Simply put, plagiarism is claiming someone else's words, ideas or images as your own and not giving credit where credit is due. There are very serious consequences to committing plagiarism, both inside and outside academia. Very important for you to consider, an act of plagiarism is fraud. It's the same thing as lying. It also does a great disservice to your peers, who've put original thought and effort into their assignments. It calls into question your personal integrity.
