The City of Barrie owns and manages  5 billion dollars worth of assets.  This includes roads and sidewalks, water and  wastewater systems, parks, buses, rec centres,   and fire stations. These assets allow us to  deliver important services like transportation   and safe drinking water, emergency response,  fitness and swim programs, as well as protection   of the environment, including Lake Simcoe. While service delivery is a priority for the City of Barrie, we do face some challenges. Many of our assets were built at different times over the last century. We have older infrastructure downtown and much newer infrastructure built in neighborhoods in the 1990s and 2000s. On top of all that, as the city grows and intensifies, we have to think about where to build new assets like wider roads and new bike lanes or where to build pipes to deliver safe drinking water.
