hello this is Karen Hovey thank you Vanessa for the introduction I'm going to talk some about the school performance grades and how those came to be in the North Carolina General Assembly legislated that school performance grades were to be assigned beginning with the 2013-14 accountability testing results the results were made available in the new school report card that Diane will be discussing in a few moments the legislation mandates that the grades are calculated using 80 percent achievement and 20 percent growth schools with no growth would use a hundred percent achievement and those with no data no test data would receive no designation 2013 and 14 uses a 15 point scale for the grading and after that for 2014-15 and Beyond the legislature has mandated a 10 point scale School serving grades K through 8 receive a separate grade for reading and math and all schools assigned a d or F or are required to inform parents by letter they can use the snapshot from the North Carolina report
