i'm very pleased that we're joined today by katarina mcfarland who served as assistant as assistant secretary of defense for acquisition acting army acquisition director of acquisition for the missile missile defense agency among other positions and senior positions of the department um what i couple things i particularly appreciate about katrina is first she's a civil servant who rose to become a political appointee which i think uh rising to that level on on merit alone is always an achievement and something that deserves to be celebrated um second um when i was on capitol hill i saw all kinds of people come up to brief i saw people who would crouch in in a position of fear i would see people who would forcefully repeat their talking points and not have anything they could say beyond that and i would see people like katrina who would be a relief when she came to the hill because she didn't come to browbeat or miles mindless repeat talking points but to engage uh she would communicate
