Some of these people will tell you they vote conservative for the good of the nation but that's false, because these same people also say they "reserve their compassion for themselves and their family". This translates into selfishness really. So herein lies the first type of hypocrisy. Will they tell you they don't care about the mistreatment of immigrants and children at the border? They will —reluctantly, when pushed. They don't care. Hypocrisy number 2 is that they really only care about lowering their own taxes, want nothing but Republicans in government (thus eliminating the democratic republic), and cared most about putting "conservatives" on the Supreme Court (even though it is a non-partisan body.) So you can see —at best— they only cared about themselves and their party's politics —and not the good of the nation as a whole. This group was fine with Merrick Garland being held up for 10 months because of a made-up rule about election year appointments but agreed with rushing through Kavanaugh's appointment even though there was doubt in the nation about him. So, no matter how many times this group tells us they care about our whole nation, they do not. They care about Party.Group 2. (Hate Clinton & Democrats ) are people who've bought the "no more of the same" false narrative that was being peddled before and during the 2016 presidential election. Believing that our government is broken, they thought it was a good idea to wreck the whole thing; blindly thinking NO government was somehow going to be better than a government in need of repair. The hypocrisy here is that these people think they are justified in hating anyone not in their party. Further, many have told me that Democrats ruined it. They also don't seem to have a good grasp on what the federal government does and what it doesn't do —but they are super sure only Republicans can run it. The gigantic hypocrisy here is they are willing to select only facts that support their beliefs and adamantly deny other facts. (Trump made the economy great but Obama had nothing to do with it; they say Obama didn't get much done but they also deny there was massive obstruction in Congress during his terms; blame Obama for the great recession but definitely not GW Bush; blame Clinton for corruption but say that Trump's [and his family's] corruption is 'not the same'; evangelical Christian leaders say "we didn't elect a national pastor" —are you kidding me?; and compare Obama's and Trump's presidencies as having the same set of circumstances when coming in —while in reality—Obama needed to fix the economy from a recession and Trump rolled into a working economy. So this group has very slanted thinking, a desire to cherry-pick facts to support their partisan hatred, and the ability to deny any facts that don't fit their narrative. They were angry about us having a black president but learned over time how to say it differently (he didn't accomplish much; he was bad for the country, he was politically correct, etc.) This group is also fairly susceptible to conspiracy theories. They are lots more scared of things than I am. I learned that much for sure.Group 3 (Populists) are in this for tribal reasons. They've identified themselves with a tribe, they are real angry, and are typically less educated. This group doesn't seem to understand the history of populism, or Nazi Germany, or what an authoritarian sounds like (Trump), or any of the threats our democratic republic is facing currently. They don't even seem to understand the different types of governments in the world, or fully understand what ours is. This group frequently couldn't even tell me what the correct name of our country is. I'm not making this up. This group saw Trump as some sort of hero. They believe that 'Merica needs to be made great again but cannot really agree on when it was last great or what needs to be done for greatness again. They hate asylum seekers and immigrants, believe immigrants have taken their jobs, hate Democrats simply because they've been told to, they hate black people but are still afraid mostly to admit this, and see no use for government at all. They believe Trump was being real (and not acting) on The Apprentice and is therefore tough. They believe wealthy people must be smart. They can forgive any number of Trump's character flaws (lying, philandering, narcissism, cheating in business, cheating on taxes, etc) because he is their psignNower of Hatred. They go to sermons —not rallies. This group is also the most susceptible to conspiracy theories and believe all of those that fit into their hatred… including Pizzagate. Major hypocrisies here include being racist but pretending they are not, believing in going backwards in time to become manufacturers again (coal, really?), and hating "globalization" without really understanding how we got there. Just so you know, I'm old enough to have memories of standing with my Dad protesting globalization ("Buy American!"). Members of both political parties were against it. But we lost that fight. The wealthy people won the fight and began to enjoy $1 per hour, no benefits employees. So this current movement against globalization is a movement by members of the same party that brought it to us in the first place. Globalization: it's the new brand of colonialism.So, here we are. Divided. Divided because 40% of us didn't understand what a good government we had, and instead of trying to fix the problems, decided to wreck it. Divided because 40% of us had been directed towards anger and intolerance by conservative news media.
