What is the Bill of Lading Form?

When a person has applied to a shipping agent and has handed over his cargo, the carrier is obligated to issue a special document - a Bill of Lading (B/L or BoL).

This is a record of the standard form adopted in international practice for the maritime carriage of goods, which certifies its loading, transportation and the right to receive.

This bill performs several functions:

  1. Confirms the conclusion of the transport contract.
  2. Provides the right to convey and receive a shipment.
  3. It’s used as an accompanying document with information about the load.

Usually, the Bill of Lading note is issued in 3 copies (one copy for the cargo owner, the consignee and the transporter). If the corresponding B/L is presented, the supplier shall deliver the consignment to the bearer. After the current paper has been handed over, all other copies become invalid.

  4. Ship From: this field indicates the full name and address of the company sending the products in accordance with a contract.
  5. Ship To: in the BoL PDF template it’s used for the contact information of the company receiving the goods - if they were sent to a legal entity - or the first and last name, and address of the consignee - if sent to an individual.
  6. Section 3 is for the info of The Third Party to Charge the Freight Bill.
