How do I fill out a W-4 form?
The main thing you need to put on your W-4 besides your name, address and social security number is whether you are married or single and the number of exemptions you wish to take to lower the amount of money with held for taxes from your paycheck. The number of exemptions refers to how many people you support, i. e. children. Say you are single and have 3 children, you can put down 4 exemptions, 1 for your self and 1 for each child. This means you will have more pay to take home because you aren’t having it with held from your paycheck. If you are single and have no children, you can either take 1 or 0 exemptions. If you make decent money, take 0 deductions, if you are barely making it you could probably take 1 exemption. Just realize that if you take exemptions, and not enough money is taken out of your check to pay your taxes, you will be liable for it come April 15th.If you are married and have no children and you make decent money, take 0 deductions. If you have children, only one spouse should take them as exemptions and it should be the one who makes the most money. For example, say your spouse is the major bread winner and you have 2 children, your spouse could take 4 exemptions (one for each member of the family) and then you would take 0 exemptions.Usually, it’s best to err on the side of caution and take the smaller amount of deductions so that you won’t owe a lot of money come tax time. If you’ve had too much with held it will come back to you as a refund.

Do military members have to pay any fee for leave or fiancee forms?
NOOOOOOO. You are talking to a military romance scammer. I received an email from the US Army that directly answers your question that is pasted below please keep reading.I believe you are the victim of a military Romance Scam whereas the person you are talking to is a foreign national posing as an American Soldier claiming to be stationed overseas on a peacekeeping mission. That's the key to the scam they always claim to be on a peacekeeping mission.Part of their scam is saying that they have no access to their money that their mission is highly dangerous. If your boyfriend girlfriend/future husband/wife is asking you to do the following or has exhibited this behavior, it is a most likely a scam:Moves to private messaging site immediately after meeting you on Facebook or SnapChat or Instagram or some dating or social media site. Often times they delete the site you met them on right after they asked you to move to a more private messaging siteProfesses love to you very quickly & seems to quote poems and song lyrics along with using their own sort of broken language, as they profess their love and devotion quickly. They also showed concern for your health and love for your family.Promises marriage as soon as he/she gets to state for leave that they asked you to pay for. They Requests money (wire transfers) and Amazon, iTune ,Verizon, etc gift cards, for medicine, religious practices, and leaves to come home, internet access, complete job assignments, help sick friend, get him out of trouble, or anything that sounds fishy. The military does provide all the soldier needs including food medical Care and transportation for leave. Trust me, I lived it, you are probably being scammed. I am just trying to show you examples that you are most likely being connned.Below is an email response I received after I sent an inquiry to the US government when I discovered I was scammed. I received this wonderful response back with lots of useful links on how to find and report your scammer. And how to learn more about Romance Scams.Right now you can also copy the picture he gave you and do a google image search and you will hopefully see the pictures of the real person he is impersonating. this doesn't always work and take some digging. if you find the real person you can direct message them and alert them that their image is being used for scamming.Good Luck to you and I'm sorry this may be happening to you. please continue reading the government response I received below it's very informative. You have contacted an email that is monitored by the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command. Unfortunately, this is a common concern. We assure you there is never any reason to send money to anyone claiming to be a Soldier online. If you have only spoken with this person online, it is likely they are not a U.S. Soldier at all. If this is a suspected imposter social media profile, we urge you to report it to that platform as soon as possible. Why did my employer give me a W-9 Form to fill out instead of a W-4 Form?
I wrote about the independent-contractor-vs-employee issue last year, see http://nctaxpro.wordpress.com/20...Broadly speaking, you are an employee when someone else - AKA the employer - has control over when and where you work and the processes by which you perform the work that you do for that individual. A DJ or bartender under some circumstances, I suppose, might qualify as an independent contractor at a restaurant, but the waitstaff, bus help, hosts, kitchen aides, etc. almost certainly would not. There's always risk in confronting an employer when faced with a situation like yours - my experience is that most employers know full well that they are violating the law when they treat employees as independent contractors, and for that reason they don't tolerate questions about that policy very well - so you definitely should tread cautiously if you want to keep this position. Nonetheless, I think you owe it to yourself to ask whether or not the restaurant intends to withhold federal taxes from your checks - if for no other reason than you don't want to get caught short when it comes to filing your own return, even if you don't intend to challenge the policy.

How did Japanese mobile game maker GREE manage to increase mobile revenues dramatically from early 2011 to 2012?
I see four factors.1) GachaGREE has been very aggressive with monetizing users through the gacha game mechanic, as explained by Junjun. The gacha function is believed to contribute up to 50% (in some cases more) to the overall revenue of Japan's social gaming companies. It's pure insanity.Just to explain what gacha is: with gacha, Japanese social game makers essentially transferred the concept of real-world toy vending machines (the ones where toys are placed in plastic balls) to mobile social games. In the pre-gacha era, players would be offered up virtual items inside the game, for example to reduce waiting time or when a powerful sword was needed to kill a monster. You pay money and know what you get. With gacha, companies make players buy virtual item through electronic draws in a separate menu point, namely gacha. You pay money and you don't really know what you get, and it can take multiple turns to get the item you need. Each turn costs 100 to 300 yen (US$1.30 to US$3.90), and some heavy spenders are known to invest hundreds of thousands of yen into gacha monthly. The mechanic is criticized by many to be too similar to gambling. Here's how gacha looks in Konami's Dragon Collection, one of the most popular mobile social games in Japan right now (exclusively offered via GREE).In this screenshot, I received a card showing a water demon after paying 100 yen for one spin (again, it's not possible to purchase this card directly):I have explained gacha in great detail here:http://www.serkantoto.com/2012/0...GREE and other companies later introduced variations of gacha to make even more money, for instance the so-called complete gacha mechanic. Under this mechanic, users can unlock a special ultra-rare item (i.e. a powerful game card) only when they win a set/combination of gacha first.Complete gacha proved to be a very lucrative sub-form of gacha, and GREE was known to be using complete gacha very aggressively. This mechanic has now been deemed illegal in Japan, however:http://www.serkantoto.com/2012/0...2) Smartphone boomGREE anticipated the smartphone boom in Japan and timed the porting of their 1st-party games (especially the big hits) accordingly. In this area, GREE didn't do a perfect job, but they were better at it than rival DeNA - one reason why the first company outperformed the latter in terms of revenue. In Japan, feature phone ARPU is 3-5 times higher than smartphone ARPU for social games, but the gap is shrinking (feature phones will play no role anymore in a few years anyway).3) Aggressive TV advertisingCan you imagine Zynga advertising Cityville while Game Of Thrones is running on TV?GREE has been investing millions and millions of US$ in TV advertising in Japan to acquire new users, reactivate dormant ones and stimulate active ones (and by extension generate revenue). In these sample TV commercials, GREE is using popular boy band TOKIO to promote their cash cow Doliland:So it's kind of ironic that in this way, an old form of entertainment is used to fuel the growth of a new one, but it works (in Japan, at least).More information:http://www.serkantoto.com/2012/0...4) Social card battle game boomGREE did a much, much better job than rival DeNA in reacting to the social card battle game boom that hit Japan about 2 years ago.My answer to What is the actual gameplay of Japanese mobile social card games?.GREE has a number of hit social card games in their 1st-party game portfolio, and they are making a killing with them. One game, a super-popular social card battle game called Doliland (Driland in the US) was making US$26 million per month at the end of last year - on smartphones alone:http://www.serkantoto.com/2011/1...The number sounds unbelievable, but was first reported by TechCrunch Japan (which I quote in my article linked to above) and later officially confirmed by GREE.The company later used this number publicly (also in the US) to show how powerful their platform is.Doliland and other social card battle games are still very popular in Japan. I'd estimate that up to 70% of GREE's top 20 games have been from that genre in the last months.More background:http://www.serkantoto.com/2012/0...There is a lot more to be said here, but I think these four points cover a lot of ground with regards to the question.
