Obviously, home state, meaning of name, graduation subjects, work experience, et al HAVE to be prepared thoroughly. The board might or might not ask these fairly obvious questions.Double check, then triple check what you have written. You won’t get to make changes if you make a mistake.Circulate it to your friends (non-CSE aspirants will be even better) and ask if they find anything odd. Do this over 3–4 times before you lock down your DAF.Go to the interview with an open mind. Despite what UPSC says, the board can and will judge you on knowledge, especially if it should be something you should have known based on what you have written in DAF (not on bouncer questions, do not be afraid of them).Finally, the personality test is a conversation, at the end of which you will be judged for what you spoke and how you spoke it. Be confident, be polite, be considerate, and above all, be rational.

There are many excellent answers and I'll answer one from personal experience.After 12 years of professional experience, technical school, and thousands of hours of manufacturer training, I was hardly unskilled, but very specialized as a master certified Mercedes-Benz technician.Unlike 99.9 percent of my peers, I understood at a very early point in my career that there is an expiration date on specialized skills and the human body, so I took courses at a junior college part time for many years. Without an end date set in stone it allowed for taking courses I enjoyed, switching between English lit and business.When an injury did take me out of my career, it was not an immediate realization. I spent 6 months progressing from barely being able to get out of bed to destroying my self in physical therapy. Then the doctor declared me stable but not fit for duty. This switched my status to state disability as I was no longer going to be a technician, so I dove headfirst into a bachelor's program. The issue is that at the end of 6 month of workers comp and the 1 year limit on disability, that puts someone out of work for 18 months and makes them ineligible for unemployment. I haven't run into any real scams here.  The two types of expat financial services I've run into are either those that provided by a huge financial company, or those that are provided by mom-and-pop accounting firms (you can get a list from the US consulate website).The big accounting firms have terrible service, and their advice really isn't that good, but they aren't scams, and the only reason to use them if the company provides them for free.  The mom-and-pop companies have much, much better advice and service, and you can just use your good judgement to see if they are scams.I think the reason I've never run into an outright scam is:1) the service providers don't take all of your money.  When you have someone do your taxes, you just pay them a fee.  They don't have access to your bank account, so there's no way they can really scam you.2) all of the information they tell you can be verified.  An accountant tells you that you have to fill out forms X, Y, and Z for your taxes, and you go to the IRS website and it says that you have to fill out forms X, Y, and Z.  The accountant tells you this in plain English and there are sometimes some weird interactions that you haven't seen, but they aren't telling you anything that you can't verify as true for yourself.The only expat financial services I've ever used involves tax preparation, because tax prep for US expats is total hell.  The final tax rates are actually pretty low, since there are nice deductions and credits, but my US tax forms for my first year in HK was 100+ pages (seriously), and my accountant had to create some custom forms because there are some tax issues that the IRS has no form for (for example, the fact that the HK and US tax years are different so you have to create your own form telling the IRS how you are splitting your tax credits/deductions between the two years).  I just had to use the accounting firm for one year, since once they should me how to fill out the taxes, it's something I can do by myself with software.Other than paying taxes, I've never had reason to use any expat specific services.   There are some gotchas with HK investments, but you can get information from your co-workers.  There are two or three things that I wish I knew ahead of time (i.e. how pensions work in HK), but the trouble is that those things could be written down in one paragraph, and it's not the basis for any sort of financial service.(Also the thing about pensions is that I assumed that the employer match in HK was like the US 401(k) where things go into a special account which I had to weight until 60 to get or I left HK.  Since HK pensions are completely taxable in the US, I didn't contribute that much, since I had to pay US tax on it and the employer match.What I didn't realize until I changed jobs and got a big check, was that most of the pension is given to you when you switch jobs.  If I had known that I would have put a lot more money into the pension than I did.)
