I have seven or eight friends with Asperger's diagnoses.  Here are a few anecdotes.My best friend for a while was a bit, shall we say, over-friendly.  He would invite random acquaintances to go camping with him.  He always paid for people on his outings, even when they were clearly not dates.  The first was because he likes camping, and the second was because he'd just gotten a job and had a lot more money than we did.  He also offered to marry his friend so that she'd get health insurance.  This friend never really liked him and yesterday she told him she would never hang out with him again.None of this served him well.  Most of the people he does this to find him creepy and/or take advantage of him.  New friends reject him and he doesn't understand why.  Because he has trouble making new friends, he keeps trying to hang out with his old friends, even though most of them don't like him and constantly put him down.  This year he's gotten a lot more cynical about friendship and told us (his friends) that he regrets having friends.  Not all of this is because of Asperger's, but the Asperger's has certainly taken a toll on his emotional well-being.My other best friend was exactly the opposite.  The vast majority of people I introduce him to don't like him.  He pissed off my mom by arguing with her over a scene in Casablanca.  He pissed off my friend by putting his shoes on her purse, then arguing with her when she told him to take them off.  He pissed off Aspie #1 by calling him a "fool" when he made a wrong move in Go, and he pissed me off by breaking up with me fifteen minutes after I told him I might be pregnant (I wasn't).Most of these acts were not acts of hostility.  I believe the breakup was for completely unrelated reasons and he simply failed to notice how bad his timing was.  The arguments with my mom and my friend were products of his desire for intellectual correctness, similar to him correcting his math professor because he said "if" instead of "only if."  When I told him these people didn't like him, he was hurt and rather surprised.Although Aspie #2 is generally kind and well-intentioned, his Asperger's hampers his ability to find friends.  Fortunately this hasn't been too much of a problem for him because most of his hobbies are solitary, he doesn't seem to value friendship as much as most people, and he is very close to his mother.Aspie #3, who unlike the others was never my best friend, didn't seem to understand the concept of personal space.  She'll sit next to people and randomly start touching their leg hair.  She turned a lot of people against her because she gave someone a handjob in the hot tub even though he didn't want it.  I didn't mind her touching me, but a lot of people rejected her for it and she didn't know why.She became a radical feminist and attributed her poor treatment to discrimination.  This made her feel bitter and hopeless, since it's a lot harder to fight the problem of discrimination than to stop touching people.  She felt that she was "marginalized" and denied the benefits of friendship, such as access to resources and knowing which professors to choose for her classes.What does it feel like to have Asperger's?  It manifests very differently in different people, but the common thread is you are isolated and do not know why.P.S. Aspies 1, 2, and 3 all hate each other.  Yay Aspie drama!
