As a general rule of thumb, the see-to-believers will say “okay, thank you for telling me,” the lukewarm supporters will sound supportive and offer to help if you need it, and the awesome people will seem to really think about it in detail and do things like asking you what your name is, or other (non-invasive) questions about transition.If you aren’t really sure and you haven’t come out, I fully recommend doing that first. People like to get some advance notice, and it can help you get an understanding of the sorts of people that are in your life. If things seem good, you can move forward. If not, you can keep on trucking with the waiting and the feeling like dysphoria is stabbing you in the chest and the pain and tears.If smoothly means to meet the least amount resistance from other people, then the other people are everything. The stiffer your back, the more shit you can deal with, but it’s really, really hard to have a stiff back while transitioning. It’s an emotional rollercoaster, and for trans women the emotions part gets worse on HRT.There are a lot of people who are lukewarm supporters. Transitioning around them will be safe, but can sometimes be lonely as you don’t have anyone you can really talk to. The see-to-believers are going to be a pain point before going on HRT, but after that generally okay but uncomfortable. The assholes are poison.Analyze your risks, gauge the level of support from the people who are in control of those risks, and then come to a decision on whether or not it’s possible to go full-time smoothly. Sometimes it isn’t, and yes, that really really sucks. Sometimes people need to go full-time anyway, smooth be damned, and that’s okay. But the more information you have, the better you can insulate yourself from danger.So that’s the overall, longer-term perspective.In the short term, people are people. They don’t like surprises, and seeing is believing for everyone. Here are some things you can do to smooth things out:Timing. When it comes to surprises, when you go full-time matters. Your best options are immediately after breaks of a week or more (the longer the better, usually). That’s summer vacation in school, or time off for Christmas, or at the very least over a weekend or long weekend. You’ll want to come out before the break and make sure people know that you’ll be full-time after the break, usually by telling them you’re going to start going by your name and pronouns on [day].Appearance. For all the things it is and isn’t, being able to appear as how people think of a member of your identified gender is a shield and transition lubricant. You’ll likely be doing your best anyway, at least at first, but it’s something that helps and it’s important to recognize that. Understand the importance of cheeks and jaw and wear makeup emphasizing that. Wear clothing that is solidly demonstrating you are the gender you identify with. For trans women, being able to voice at least somewhat well is super important.Graduality. So I just said that timing things after a break is best, and that appearing as the gender you identify with is best, too. The other thing that is best, and is at odds with both of those, is easing into things gradually. That’s things like not wearing a dress on day 1 of being full-time as a woman, and taking things one step in a time as you alter your presentation instead of changing everything at once. This doesn’t need to be longer than a fast gradual, just week or two. If you’re timing this after a break of several months, gradual is a lot less important, but if you’re doing it over a weekend, gradual is good. And like everything, it really depends on the people you’re around and what they seem to expect.Patience. Even people who aren’t hostile are going to get your name and pronouns wrong, even for a while. Be patient with them; they will get there eventually. I know how it feels to be misgendered and how much of a slap in the face it is, but sometimes that’s just the way things are. A lack of patience with others translates pretty directly into hating yourself, so this is crucial not just for their sake but for yours.All-in-all, it’s about the people in your life and coddling them around the Big Deal that is your transition. Know who they are and be ready to handle that, and remember that at the end of the day you’re leading the charge and they’re just dabbling. People do judge, but they don’t really understand, and eventually you come to realize that you’re the expert and you don’t need to care so much about all the people who haven’t even done much reading on the things you’re good at.Always have a contingency plan, if possible, but sometimes you just need to power through. Transition isn’t anything remotely approaching easy, but I think we all know how little that matters. Worst case the form is available at the courthouse where your hearing is set to be heard in, typically at the appropriate clerk's window, which may vary, so ask any of the clerk's when you get there.You only have so many days to respond, and it will specify in the paperwork.You will also have to appear in court on the date your hearing is scheduled.Most courts have a department that will help you respond to forms at no cost. I figure you are asking because you can't afford an attorney which is completely understandable.The problem is that if you aren't represented and the other person is successful in getting a temporary restraining order made permanent in the hearing you will not be allowed at any of the places the petitioner goes, without risking arrest.I hope this helps.Not given as legal advice-

A Limited Liability Corporation is very inexpensive and easy to get and will protect you in case of any sort of legal issue.In short if someone were to take legal action against you due to say defamation or creative license issues the LLC would help protect monies you make from your regular job or your personal belongings.Filling out the paperwork isn’t difficult and costs under $50 last I checked but if you don’t feel comfortable doing it yourself you can find several companies online (just google “get an llc”) that will do it for a fee of about $99 plus the fee for the LLC.
